My gate is a "Nice" brand .. the Merros fits in the motor box.
Zip tie & velcro it somewhere neat.
Weatherproof double sided tape for the magnet/reedswitch.

Looking at page 67 of the manual, it suggests the TRX & COM ports are the two wires you'd connect the Meross to.

You'd may also benefit from a 12v to USB step down converter to power it.

Same here. Or any other recommendations. At the moment we have to use the remote and only works when very close to house but we are on a busy street.

  • Wish I never bought this, I have to be connected to wifi to get it to work even though it's connected through Home via my iPad as a hub

As soon as I leave wifi I get the message "This accessory is not responding"

    • If it’s like my iPad WiFi turns off when it sleeps, so that would be useless.

    • +1

You might want to know your iPad will stop being the HomeKit base after the new ios16 update. Apple is removing it.

That said, I’ve no issues using it with HomePods. iPads are always flaky with HomeKit.

      • I thought they backtracked on the fact they're getting rid of it?

Have you tried using this with homepod? It only supports 2.4GHZ network so I don't know how well that will work.

I have just ordered mesh wifi network with band steering so don't know if the meross device will still work

        • not really backtracked, they just confirmed that they wouldn't include ipads in future iterations of homekit… while it's a small distinction, there would be a period of time (in the future), apple would put in advanced homekit stuff and they can say 'well, ipads are not on this roadmap'

i run all my IoTs in an isolated 5/2.4G mesh along with homepods (the mini is wifi4/802.11n and the original homepod is 802.11ac/wifi5 where both are dual bands). however some cheaper IoT brands are a bit more finicky, where they only support 2.4g and they get confused with SSIDs with meshed bands.

    • I'm having this exact same issue on my iPhone!!!

      Any help?

  • has anyone got it with gliderol gts+ prima, meross website doesn't state for the prima version and tried shorting the terminal but didnt seem to work

For some reason it decided to open the garage door in the middle of the night.

      Call an exorcist

    • +2

      Heaaalll no
I would put a smart plug to turn off Meross power after 10pm
Or another smart plug to control the first smart plug …

    • Check your app settings for scheduling?

  • Are these easy to self install?

    • In my experience, its a little tricky because its not clear where to connect the signal/circuit wires to the garage door controller board.
No big deal, just follow the instructions provided & try a different connection point if it doesn't work.
All up it should take 30 minutes to get operational & then, say, an hour to decide on the path & cable clip down the long reed switch signal cable from the controller to the door magnet. You will need to buy 10+ cable clips from a hardware store.
Satisfying when done. I open/close it a couple of times a day using my Apple Watch.
Its added to the HomeKit app, so you can see on your watch or phone if the door is open (so you can close it in bed), can have settings like Siri advising you after 15 minutes that the door was left opened or geo-locate all family members so that it auto closes when the last person has left the property, etc.
Does away with the need for all the remotes

  • Does it work with this one sold on Bunnings?

  • Can the power be sourced from the garage door motor as opposed to the power adaptor?

    • +2

It's USB powered and the cable is hardwired to the unit, so unlikely. I used a double adapter for the mains outlet that powers the garage door opener to connect the USB adapter. No need for an extension cord even.

  • +1

I have this (HomeKit version) and VERY happy with it
    - I put smart globes in the garage and setup automation to turn them on for 5 minutes when the door opens!
    - Also love being able to open the garage door from my phone to let family inside if I'm not home (or if I was to lock myself out)
    - If I can't remember if I closed the garage door at night I just tell Siri (via homepod or apple watch) to close the garage door - and if it is open she will close it :)

This is a good idea, will try. I replaced the Bulb in the garage door opener with a LED but it's still too dim, will try your idea.

  • So for Android/google home I can use the non homekit version correct?

    • +1

Yes, and homekit version works for anfroid too

      • Cheers for that. Any benefit in going homekit if Im all on Android or save the money?

        • Android version works just fine as homekit one, instead it use tiny less resource as more cleaner than homekit version.

  • anyone know, does this work with an electric strike lock? thanks

  • How do I install this for B&D old doors?

    • Depending on the model, it works on my B&D CAD4.
You can find it out here https://www.meross.com/support/compatibility-check

      • I have a CAD4 also, did you follow any specific guide for that? Thanks

        • +1

I have an old CAD door. Works fine for over a year so far. Someone on the first page posted the hints you need.

I got MPC2 and a superlift brand one not surr

  • +2

Anyone use this with Home Assistant?

    • Yes, it works

      • I couldn't see it as integration. How do you get it to work?

        • Hmm it actually auto discovered during my HA setup. But i guess i'd look for the homekit integration

  • Hi, has anyone tried on Steel line SD1200 garage door?

  • As above, be warned that this doesn't work without a PIN if you use Google home, which makes it extremely annoying.

    • +1

Lol easier just to press the button yourself

    • Not so sure about that, in the App you have the option of disabling \ setting a PIN for google voice.

      • Yeah, and if you disable it then Google will simply refuse to open the door.

        • I believe, Alexa is the same. Likely a good thing, or a thief can yell out something like, Google open all doors, open garage door ect…
And google tends to hear the command.
Where Siri, tends to only listen to the device owner.

  • I got a "myQ" opener, which requires use of its own app and doesn't integrate with Apple Homekit, (although apparently it does in the US)
    :(

    Regarding Self-Installation:

I have this version and it was fairly simple to set up. The only tricky part of finding the two insert points on the garage motor that triggers the open and close function of the garage door. Quiet a lot of the garage door manufacturers are listed in the installation guide. The easiest way to find which two insert points to use to check if the open/close function is working, please look at the manufacturer's installation guide. Use the short wire give with the kit, while the garage motor is powered on, insert one end of wire to each point. If they are the correct ones, the garage door will open/close.

Setup is done from the Meross app. You will have to plug in the Meross device to a power outlet, next to the garage motor will be the best spot. Scan the QR code on the device to start Home kit setup and follow the instructions. I installed my sensor wire on the railing of the garage door.

Note: When the door is opened or closed, Meross and Home kit both will send notifications to your mobile. After 15 minutes of keeping the door open, Meross will send a notification that its been open for too long
We can use Siri to open and close the door, set it up for Arriving home or leaving home to auto close and open the door. Can also use Google and Alexa but it will ask for PIN when opening the door

  • These are a solid piece of kit. And support is excellent if you’re unsure what wire to connect up where. Has been flawless since installing 8 months ago.

  • Can I use this for my security garage door in the unit I'm staying

  • Last couple of weeks I've not been getting notifications on my Android phone. Anyone else?

    • Same. I am not getting any notifications either. I was thinking about reinstalling the mobile app.

I will try to open up a ticket :)

      • I have been putting off the latest Android update too… Have you done the latest?

        • I am on the latest Android using Samsung N10+.

Just reported the issue, lets see what do they do.

          • @Seni0r El Cheapo: I installed mine today on android note 10+. Must I open the garage door first to access settings on the unit? Seems I can't access it without the garage door being open.
I'm getting notifications, maybe try reinstalling and unlink/relink from google home

            • +1

@SoTightEcoLPI: Yea. I'll try reinstalling the app.

Meanwhile, nah you don't need to open the door to access settings. That's the sh1t UI. You tap on the side of the button - not in middle/ on the icon. It'll open up the settings.

          • +1

@Seni0r El Cheapo: Hey, just did the app uninstall/reinstall on my phone as suggested and it is working again now.

  • I have a covered carport with a roller door, however it is open to air on the left & right side. Is this unit indoor use only or can it be used under cover but exposed to outside air. The rain won't get to it but wind and other elements will.

    • I’ve got the same thing. I think it will be fine to be honest. Have it hidden behind the timber and run the cable along to the PowerPoint.

Edit: on second read of the manual it says to keep away from water. So definitely not weatherproof.

Any suggestions I’d also be keen to hear

  • I installed one of these a few weeks ago. In the last few days I'm getting phantom "garage door is open" & "door is open for longer than X minutes" alerts. Anyone else getting false positives. Sometimes it comes only from the ios Home app, other times Meross app as well. Anyone else getting these?

  • Been sitting on the fence for a while with this one. Bit the bullet and ordered one but after reading that android users couldn't use the proximity option and how users found the pin annoying, i canceled my order. Can someone change my mind?

    • +1

You'd rarely use the device to open the garage unless you are stuck outside without an opener. You can open it without a pin using the app, it's only through google assistant that it asks for a pin.
The main value is the notifications that the door has been opened during unexpected times, or has been accidentally left open for x minutes.

      • I already have cctv so can refer to that to check to check if the garage is open. Was looking more for the open close feature instead of carrying keys but seems like more work to open close with a app. Thanks mate

        • Fair enough, but there is a big difference between being notified of the door being left open vs having to check yourself (even if via cctv). You can get cheaper alternatives on amazon/aliexpress for $20 or so.

        • +1

You can configure whether you want the pin turned on or off for voice control in the Meross app.

We have CCTV in the garage too but we went away and didn't check that we shut the door, only to come back a couple days later to see the garage door had been open the whole time. Didn't check the CCTV since there wasn't any alerts. That's when I bit the bullet to get this so it notifies when it's been left open.

          • @fwz: fwiw, you can configure it to close after X minutes with that app. so from a house 'safety' point of view, it's good.

just be mindful that you might accidentally be locked out of your own home if you dont have your mobile/keys with you. :)

            • +1

@slowmo: Haha, like when you've been away for a wee bit too long taking out the bins? /guilty

I'm also just conscious with the auto-close that there might be a car parked outside our garage and it hits it. Now that we have the notifications with the Meross app, I just check the CCTV to make sure there's no obstructions and then close it on the app.

  • Does anyone know if this is compatible with home assistant please?

  • Anyone used this on bunnings homentry kit? I have a full alexa setup in shed but finding it hard to justify $800+ on 2 merlin/chamerlain motors, it's not listed as compatible and haven't found a straight answer yet

    • It's Amazon, just return it if not.
From memory though the Bunnings Homentry unit supports Wired Wall Controls (depends on the model, but the last one I saw had Pin 1 (Push Button) and Pin 2 (Common), so you would just use these to connect the Meross. Meross, just acts as a relay joining these two together.
Check the manual it will show you the correct pin for a Wired Wall Controll, and just use that and any of the Common, you may have more than 1 common pin. Either is fine.

  • Bought one for B&D diamond PD.
Had to search through web to find clues how to connect it. Pretty difficult but worked it out. Doesn’t seem to work when not connected to wifi. Anyone know how to operate when away from home? Thanks

  • How does MEROSS compare to Wofea WiFi Switch Smart Garage Door Opener?

    • It doesn’t. This has HomeKit

      • OK. Thanks. Apart from Homekit support, seems that the wiring part looks exactly the same.

  • My unit arrived today, took about 30 mins to setup and configure in my android phone. It is not integrated into my google home. It just requires a pin for opening which is good for security.

Seems like I've got to open the door to access settings and history for open/close on android, or am I doing something wrong?

Very happy with it! Thanks OP for sharing

  • I have one of these and would like to know if anyone gets the “obstructed” status when the door is closed?

    • I believe it only checks once whether the door is closed and if the magnets aren’t touching within this set time it just errors out.

You can increase the close timer in the Meross app. I frequently got this error, and it mostly went away when I set it to 20sec (might need to adjust to your specific door).

      • Thank you!

  • Purchased, installed 2 in around 30mins on B&D CADS.
I read the CADS manual, prior looking for where to connect the wires, it's where you would connect an external alarm\button with a wire, so pretty easy.
Reed switch was installed on the wall at the top of the wall, I did a few open\closes with blue tac while watching before placing, noticed the door actually pulls away quickly before rising.
Not the cheapest unit, but I already had two VERBATIM Dual USB Surge Protected with Double Adaptor, so just used that for the USB and not the provided adaptor.

    Pro's
    - Super easy to install
    - Quick visibility of door open status
    - Doesn't require any Hubs to operate, even when you are remote.

    Cons'
    - Too easy to bump\trigger the door (yes user error)
    - Notifications are not time sensitive, so they don't work at night (sleep focus mode) or when the phone is in battery saver mode (I assume that is why I didn't get alerts today, if not alerts are very unreliable). This is all alerts, including time left open. (One of my kids always leaves the door open, but despite setting both open and reminder alerts, they didn't come through). All worked fine yesterday when phone had a full charge.
    - App doesn't support Apple CarPlay, forcing you to use Apple Home ecosystem, requiring a Hub. (ie: You can't just load Meross app from within CarPlay)
    - Requires external power (does not get power from the door)
    - HomeKit seems very unreliable, when using iPAD as a hub, would not recommend using an iPAD as a hub. Apple also dropped support from iOS 16 onwards. In the instructions, it says the iPAD must be left always on.
    - HomeKit sounds great, but support is lackluster. Apple HomePod was one of those product failures, just wasn't popular, and starting to see why. Who needs\wants yet another smart speaker.
    - Apple have also suspended all upgrades to their new architecture while they work through issues.

    • We use an iPad as the hub and it works fine. Haven't had it drop out, with the iPad mostly on standby in the living room.

Meross has a firmware update that improves the reliability of Homekit. Maybe try that to see if that helps?

      • I use an iPhone but all my smart gadgets are on Google Home and Google Hub. Am I the odd one?

        • iPhone can't act as a hub, so you won't be able to control via Apple Home when your phone isn't on WiFi.
CarPlay, AppleWatch won't be able to control the devices, until your phone is back on WiFi. CarPlay is handy as it detects when you get close to hope, and then shows the Icon to open\close the garage door.

I'm like you, all other device are on google.

          • @UltimateAI: Thanks. I have learned something new today. Just to make sure I understood you correctly - after adding the MEROSS smart door opener to Apple Home, Car Play will show the Open/Close garage door icon when the car approaches home?

BTW, what is your experience with geofencing with Apple Home?

            • @BendBridge: Correct that is how it is working for me. I have zero other experience with Apple Home, my other devices are on google.

              • @UltimateAI: Do you use Google Map on Car Play?

                • @BendBridge: Waze, but the icon for the garage door doesn't pop-up in the Waze window, it pops-up next to it.

  • Finally got mine - but would love some help with this issue i'm having!!

  • Hi guys, got it working this weekend, really happy with it. All my smart devices are Google but I use an iPhone. What would be the cheapest way to get started with Homekit? The HomePod mini? Cheers.

    • +1

Apple TV. I went to cash converters and got one

      Or Cex too

      • Thanks! Does it matter which model it is? May I ask which one you bought and how much it cost?

        • +1

          I bought a 4k V2. i'd get that or v3
