+ for transparency with "Now there are cheaper versions. But keep in mind if you want it integrated as part of HomeKit then you need this one."

    • +5

Only because it can be confusion when you see amazons related items from the same seller. Title doesn’t differentiate. But the descriptions do.

      • +3

I just appreciate your transparency, as some people when posting bargains act as though it's the best item ever, nothing else comes close etc

It's good that you let people know that there's alternatives that may be just as good depending on their needs.

    • If you don't need Homekit compatibility, there's an alternative version from the same seller for about $10 less.

  • Is there any smart opener that works with a B&D roller type door? (Except for the proprietary one?)

    • which model is your opener?

      • It's just labelled as CAD PD on my docs

        • +4

It will work. Connect it to
          4. GND - Common ground for accessories 5. OPERATE - Open/Stop/Close trigger

        • Try to connect 4 and 5 and see if it opens it

    • +6

Get on a stepladder and look for a terminal block somewhere on the unit. Almost all garage door openers will have one.
Might be behind a little door or something.
Bridge two of the connections with a pair of pliers and see whether the door opens/closes.
That connection is what these plug into.

    • +1

I hardwired the cable on a remote controller and works perfect. Brought a cheap remote and paired, and welding circuit board

    • I have a b and d and the non Homekit version of this opener and it works perfectly wired into it.

      This guide was really helpful

I have a B&D PanelPro, shown in my YouTube review of this Meross Kit..

      3 highlights.
      1. To test compatibility, use a metal wire to bridge AUX/OSC and 0v terminals together, if the door opens it'll work with this unit.
      2. To change settings (set a pin for Google Home open), tap on the BOLD font (name of device) in app. There's no settings cog or pencil icon on android, you must tap the name. The garage door icon open/closes, but the name is for settings, absolutely ridiculous UX design haha!
      3. If you use Android Auto you can set button shortcuts for Google Assistant, this way when driving home you can tap the button on screen, state your PIN and the door will open :)

That's all covered in the vid, along with install process and some other thoughts

    • +1

I'm trying to work out where to put the magnetic sensors! There doesn't appear to be a good spot at all. Has anyone installed one who can share how they did it?

      • Glue / double sided tape one side to the concrete and the other side to the bottom of your garage door. You may need to cut out a section of the seal on the inside of the door depending on how your door lines up.

Get cable clips like electricians use into your bricks to make it neat and tidy also (Mine is just hanging there till i do this lol)

I didn't use these but standard cheapo tuya ones, same concept though. My "security / pin" is just a very obscurely named scene in alexa/smartlife to trigger the door.

        • Not a bad idea. Thanks mate.

          • @Orrelljet: No worries, I just actually remembered on one of my roller doors the sensors weren't quite meeting up so I just siliconed a few washers to the ground and put the sensor on top of that to give me a bit more height.

      • I've ordered mine and yet to receive it, I just downloaded the manual. I'll be going the ceiling wall mount as per page 4.

Been using this since last deal, loving the "Hey siri, open the garage" command.

    • +1

Home automation newb here. Is it really easier than clicking a button on a remote? Also, how does Siri hear you? Is she on your phone and always listening or do you have a Apply home (or whatever they call it). We have Google home and doing things like "turn up the volume" is far easier with a remote.

      • +8

I don’t carry the remote with me everywhere but I do have my watch and I just ask Siri to open garage door. So in the regard it is easier.

      • +3

You can actually set proximity alerts, so you can have your smart devices activate when your GPS location is at the end of your street, so that when you arrive to your house the garage door is already open. In this case, you wont even need to say 'hey siri' or anything like that.

        • Any links on doing on android

        • Apple HomeKit won’t do this. It still needs confirmation from your phone due to security. However you can program this just the same routine to open upon arriving home via GpS on your phone from the Meross app

      • +9

If you have apple carplay, it will come up on your screen as you approach your house. I find this easier than trying to find the garage remote.

    • +1

Best thing ever. Means we haven't had to buy extra remotes for other family members.

      • They just need to connect to your WiFi?

        • +2

Yes, after adding it to the home in Google Home, anyone who's been invited to the home can use the device (basically like a Google Nest Hub or Chromecast).

        • You don't need to be on WiFi to use this - only the opener needs a WiFi connection.

          • @cyssero: If you want to use Siri you need to have an Apple hub (Apple TV or HomePod) on the home wifi. It won’t work over internet if you don’t.

  • +1

I got this and it was great at first but now it barely works.

    • +1

same worked great but now won't connect to homekit

      • Have you got a hub (Apple TV or HomePod on your network). Make sure you’ve set this up on your HomeKit.

      • this could be due to a homekit firmware upgrade , i remember it was specific versions (i can't recall now, could be they changed the name to tvOS) unfortunately the 'easy fix' is to remove the IoT and remove & add it back on the homekit and it would work. it wasn't limited to just this garage door opener… a few of my IoTs (different brands) was 'broken' by that update that I had to remove & add back to the homekit.

    • Check you have the latest update. Turn on/off. No firewalls blocking. Etc

      • +3

I have checked all that, same problem. It can't even find the device atm

        • Perhaps double-check that you haven't disabled 2.4GHz on your WiFi AP.
I had this issue with a IoT thermostat.

        • Try reinstalling

          • +1

@Mahalo: Or reset the device and added it again.

    • +1

Yup, same here returned it had it replaced, new one didn’t work either. Worked perfectly for about the first 6 months though…

      • Sounds like network issues. I had similar problem with an iPad but then a software update to mesh fixed it.

      • I believe Apple changed their software so without the pod it will only work when you’re on the same wifi. Over internet needs the hub on the network. Phone can’t be the hub anymore

    • +1

Yep struggling to get it to work with HomeKit

    • +1

Mine is 2 years old and has worked fine. The only thing is that it needs a particularly strong wifi signal to operate reliably. I set up an Eero node in the garage to provide that, until then it was flaky but afterwards it was rock solid

  • +2

Love this thing been using it for a year or so, and a friend has one too. works flawlessly with HomeKit.

  • Any kits that works with HomEntry garage door opener from bunnings?

    • +1

      @spedohero you can check here:
      https://www.meross.com/mTerminal/support/FAQ/78

If yours isn’t specifically listed in the compatibility, there’s another test you can do to check if it’s compatible, or contact their support & they’ll help you out.

    • +1

I use the iSmartgate with my HomEntry roller motors from Bunnings.

  • -1

cheaper direct through Meross… and mine came up with free shipping to outer suburb of Melbourne… https://shop.meross.com/products/smart-wifi-garage-door-open…

    • +1

      Says $49.99 USD for me

      • oh shit I missed that on the horrible light grey on white set up!… you'd think when you use their search function titled "region" and isolate to Australia they might actually change all the values in AUD… facepalm

  • I bought one Connect SmartHome Smart Garage Door Opener from the good guys, only $49.95. doing exactly same job

    • +3

If it is compatible with Apple HomeKit, post as a deal and it will get plenty of votes.

      • Android only.

  • I have the non apple pay version. I use it with Google Assisstant. To close the garage I can simply ask Google to do it, but to open the garage it asks for a PIN even though I have that disabled in the Meross app - does anyone have a work around for this?
Recently it also stopped giving notifications when garage door is open/closed. Tried force stopping but that didnt solve the problem.

    • +3

I also have the non-Apple version. You HAVE to have a PIN for it to open with Google or Alexa - turn the PIN back on in the Meross app settings & resync it with Google/Alexa for it to work.
This is a security mechanism to ensure an intruder can’t stand outside your kitchen window and ask to be let in the garage door.

      • It's my garage door, I should get to decide how secure I want it to be.

        • Sure. Go use a different unsecured product then.

Or have a chat to Amazon, Google, Apple and Meross & convince them all why you want them to carry the lawsuits from their product(s) that allows entry to criminals.

If you don’t like the product. Go roll your own with an ESP32 or such, or work around it with Home Assistant or the like

    • Yeh mine is non-apple and i found some instructions a couple of years ago and still working now. No pin. Just press a button on shortcuts or use siri to activate. I had to use webhooks to follow some set up. Did a google but i cant find the page anymore…

    • Kinda.

If you dont use the door sensor and leave it as open, you can ask google to open/close it by just asking it to close it, if that makes sense.

Obvious downside is that it will always be open on the app.

    • This is a massive drawback and I don't think there's a solution. I would never have bought this thing if it had been clearer that you have to use a PIN every time.

      • +2

If you have home assistant you can bypass this

    • Mine also stopped giving notifications recently too. Any ideas how to fix?

  • +4

I named mine “Sesame” so when I went to open it I got to say open Sesame. That was until it stopped working…

    • WTF?

    • True, but salty.

      • +1

It's not a dupe, as it is not in the title of the deal, only description.

  • -5

Lol so what if a robber stands outside your window while you're not home - "hey Alexa, open the garage"

    • +2

An oversized boxing glove extends out and punches them in the face.

    • +1

You have to say a PIN for it to open with Google or Alexa

    • +1

The garage opens and traps the robber inside and sets itself on fire.

I mean if we are going to use imaginations.

      • There’s a video on the internet of a garage door closing, and pushing a walker-by in… leaving her confused and “trapped”

        • idk, i normally question such videos. fwiw, all garage doors i know have a manual override for people to open the door if the door motor is borked. for most 'sliding' types, it's just a cord that you can pull and then slide up the door.

it's how people who want to get in your garage as well, if they are really that determined (or your installer had been lazy).

so i find it a bit amusing when people worry about bots opening doors for them, when robbers could just break a window.

or you know, wait for the owner to arrive when they can actually 'rob' them?

          • @slowmo: Huh? Thieves outside can pull the emergency cord inside?

Yes, the cord you're referring-to disengages the door from track. In case of power-outage, motor issues etc. Door is spring-loaded, which helps carry most of the weight. But the door will rarely go higher than 80%.
            Source: Construction supervisor.

            • @Ulysses31: all i can say is that 80% isn't an indicative standard, as we know how standard are the standards being implemented in this place.

might be rare in your experience, but i've an opposite experience to you.

good that you look out for these things, though it would be a blind spot if we just assume everyone follows through on following the standards :)

              • @slowmo: I have NO idea what you're talking about.

Thieves outside can pull the emergency cord inside?

                • @Ulysses31: no worries. i have no idea what i'm talking about too!
                  have a good day.

  • +1

Can these really tell if the door is open?
ie: If you tell it to close, and it's already closed, will it open instead?

    • +2

It comes with a reed switch & magnet.

      • Thank-you.

      • I’ve lost the magnet unfortunately. Does anybody know where I can get another magnet?

        • I’d contact Meross and ask them.

        • Any magnet will work.

        • I lost mine too at one point—I ended up finding it a couple of days later magnetised to the top of the roller door… on the outside!

  • I wonder if it will work on auto sliding gates?

    • +1

Might depend on your kit - but yes works on mine.

      • What kit have you got?

        • +1

Can't recall now - but a gate is no different to a door.
All your gate needs to have is two wires & when they're joined it triggers the gate.
          Have a look here - https://www.meross.com/support/compatibility-check
Mine wasn't listed but still works fine.

        • I checked - it's called "Nice"

      • @mlakmlak could i ask what sliding gate motor do you have? I had the Centsys D5 Evo, and thinking about how to waterproof this Meross if i got one?
