What Wallet Do You Guys Use?

My traditional bifold from 10 years ago has finally died and I am looking for a new wallet suggestion, what better place to come then OzBargain! What wallet do you guys use and what would you recommend (I typically carry 6-8 cards and a little bit of cash).

  • Pierre Cardin leather RFID wallet.

  • I use this Tommy Hilfiger Men's Eton Leather Card Holder. I rarely have cash or coins on me so it just holds the essential cards and a backup $20 in case my phone isn't available.

  • Check out dango wallets. They're expensive but great. I have this:
    https://www.dangoproducts.com/collections/a-series/products/…
    and this:
    https://www.dangoproducts.com/products/d03-dapper-wallet?var…
    In the dtex material.

Truth be told I just added the D03 because it was really cheap when I was ordering it. I've been using the D03 more than the other one these days, it's a lot slimmer and I don't carry much cash at all these days.

  • +1

I'm a fan of the secrid wallets. Love the compact design and the push button to get them out.

  • +1

a cheap "piping hot" wallet from target, that I bought almost 10 years ago, still holds up surprisingly well, although the cards have a tendency to slip out a bit

*of course mine doesn't as new as this stock photo I found online

    • The green one is cute.

  • +1

Slim line 4 pocket - ID, Bank card, Bus card, Coffee cards. Has cash spot in middle, never carry cash though.

  • Got Bellroy from this deal. Had it shipped to me in Vic by fellow OzBargainer cyssero. One of the best thing to have from OzB deal.

  • +2

    Google wallet, Stocard, Payid

  • CF slimline card holder. 7 cards + tickets for parking etc or a couple notes if im forced to use cash at places.
    https://www.ogondesigns.com/products/card-and-cash-clip

    • Very interesting looking wallet, that one.

  • I am many years into a basic leather one from Target. Recently I got a puppy, and now I have perforated leather wallet.

    • +2

Speed holes, to burn through your cash faster.

  • Bought many years ago, think it was a Rip Curl leather wallet, came with a slim line one also (similar to this).

Eventually started using the slim line one and never went back. Couple of cards, licence and a little emergency cash. Though cards are really emergency now too, if phone payment doesn't work.

For short trips wallet usually stays home and I just leave with phone and car key (electronic locks at home). Hopefully we get digital licence here soon too.

  • RM Williams one with a neat little coin pocket. I used to just chuck my notes and coins together in the same slot but the coin pocket on this one is great.

  • You guys with the minimalist wallet .. no idea how you do this.

Just looking at my wallet now, I carry the following:
    - Small amount of cash for emergencies
    - Drivers license
    - Medicare card
    - Private health card
    - Translink Go card
    - Woolworths reward card
    - Dan Murphys card
    - Local RSL card
    - 4 x bank cards
    - Firearms license+SSAA membership cards
    - 3 different coffee rewards cards
    - Plus probably another 4 or 5 cards of varying natures

My wallet is pretty small as well (Tommy Hilfiger Trifold) and I never carry change in it.

    • +6

Pretty much everything you listed there I have on my phone.

    • The Woolworths and Dan Murphy's cards can be added to your phone. Also do you really need to carry four bank cards with you when you head out? Surely some of them can be put on your phone as well.

    • +1

Some of those can be added to Stocard app.

    • +1
      1. Fold $50 behind phone case
      2. Behind phone case also (or buy a case like this)
      3. There's an app for that
      4. There's an app for that
      5. App? Otherwise see option 2.
      6. There's an app for that
      7. There's an app for that

      9. There's an app for that
      10. See point 8
      11. There's an app for that (or option 8)
      12. If you can't remember them after such a comprehensive list… you don't need them.
  • Owned this Tanner Goods bifold for 10 years now. Beautiful patina on it now (even after the great matcha tea ice cream accident of 2019) and it looks like it will easily last another 10 years. The build quality is that good. Tanner Goods were quite popular on styleforum way back then. I don't really follow this stuff anymore though. It was $75USD in 2013.
    https://www.tannergoods.com/collections/wallets/products/uti…

  • Secrid wallet. They sometimes go on sale during the Peters of Kensington ebay sales

  • I've been using a Hard Graft Zip Wallet for over 10 years now (back when they were just a little expensive, not crazy expensive) and it's held up very well. If I had to get a new one though, I'd probably consider one of the Bellroy Apex wallets.

  • I use the K2 The Light. Minimalist slimline wallet.

  • +1

    Bellroy - longlasting, quality materials.
I also don't mind Freitag who uses recycled truck tarps. I did have one of these before but moved to Bellroy due to needs changing.

  • My previous version of this wallet is on its last legs after maybe 5 or 6 years so I just bought another one. At $9 it's a real Oz bargain.

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/brockman-supply-co-men-s-cam…

Oh no! I just found out that there's a $4 one:

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/brockman-supply-co-men-s-sur…

  • I usually buy a wallet from one of those popup stores in the local shopping center. $10-15 and lasts for a few years.

The only reason I have a wallet any more is because I'm an iphone user, live in Dan's Victoria and you can't yet have your myki on your iphone, or your licence on any phone. Otherwise I'd ditch the physical wallet. Sometimes I use a wallet case for my phone though which is as close as you can get I suppose.

PS anyone who buys a Belroy wallet should hand in their ozbargain card, what a ripoff.

    • I’m an iPhone user and in WA, Wait Awhile. At least I don’t have to carry my license here and in 2 years I’ll be able to tag onto the bus/train using my iPhone. So the only thing I need to carry is my swipe card for the bus/train, so I just add that to my work lanyard.

  • +1

I'm just waiting for my NSW proof of age card to go into the Service NSW app (I can't drive), and my gym card (City Of Sydney 360 Membership) to be digital and them I'm never going to carry a wallet again!

  • +2

No wallet, just phone. Going on 5 years without using a wallet or cash.

    • +1

Same but 2-3 years and loving it.

  • Some Gucci thing…surprised not more people admit to owning a designer wallet considering you see so many of them plonked on tables at restaurants/cafes

FWIW they are always gifted to me by the wife or family….each lasts 4 or 5 years and does the job plus looks pretty cool I guess

  • Bellroy Hide & Seek

  • +1

It's shocking to see how many people use only wallets for cards or just digital. No wonder our banks get richer and richer and inflation hits hard. I avoid paying with cards when there is no benefit for me (cashback, interest, meaningful points, …). So just a cheap leather wallet - with space for some notes and a few coins.

    • +1

Out of curiosity why do you say that people paying for things digitally drives up bank profits and makes inflation rise? Is that purely down to the transaction fee associated with each transaction made?

    • +1

You think inflation is caused due to people using paywave?

Please elaborate on your in depth understanding of monetary policy and influences :/

      • +1

Well, from an intro to economics point of view, there is an argument that the less cash people carry with them the more reserves banks have in their accounts. And the more reserves the banks have, the more they can lend out (the money multiplier). The more money lent out, the greater the supply of money in the economy. And greater supply of money = more inflation.

How that holds in reality (like all economics theories) is up for debate…

  • Like others have said go digital it’s so much better and safer too. I carry a small bit of cash in the car, but I’ve rarely had to use it in the last few years.

  • +2

I use a velcro wallet. The sound of ripping it open at the bar gets all the ladies blushing.

  • some levis branded one i got 10+ years ago. i keep only essentials

license, medicare, bank card incase phone and watch is dead or need to withdraw cash. some spare cash in notes. and ofcouse the stupid costco card.

  • Mywalit tri-fold without the zipper which for some reason I can't find on their site. Probably cos it's a couple years old now and maybe they don't sell it anymore. It's still going good but I'm waiting for it to start falling apart now so I can justify getting something like the Ekster card holder type

  • I'm using a $20 fake Louis Vuitton wallet I bought from AliExpress 8 years ago. I can't see myself ever using a minimal wallet as I don't like the look of them. I don't use any digital cards and never will.

  • Bellroy Slim Sleeve

its annoying, and i struggle to get cards in and out - but thats the one i got.

  • Big Skinny

Takes heaps of cards etc and still remains skinny in my pocket . Also I have had my current one for many years and it still has no sign of wear…

    https://www.bigskinny.net/sport-wallet-chocolate-brown.html

    Readily available in Amazon …

    https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=Big+Skinny&rh=n%3A5130950051%2…

  • https://amzn.asia/d/hfITbMn i got one of these Vulkit ones for my partner cos he wanted a smaller slimmer one, no idea about durability in the long term, but for now its sleek and clean and easy to use (flick tab to access cards), and has a few pockets for cash and the commonly used cards (opal etc). Heaps of good reviews, and only $35 too

  • Vulkit card holder from Amazon. Great design!

  • I bought an LV wallet a bit like this https://au.louisvuitton.com/eng-au/products/multiple-wallet-…
Looks like they don’t sell the one I bought anymore. Was about 5 years ago.
Not worth the money… not even worth half the money, it’s a $100-200 quality wallet and no more.

    • +1

Why would someone spend a $1000 for a wallet?

      • Man, they’ve gone up in price, I paid I think $680 … which was crazy. Now they seem to be all over $1000. I wouldn’t buy again.

No wonder the owner is the richest man in the world.

  • Made my own out of bike inner tube years ago. Customisable and still holding up well, though I hardly take it anywhere these days…

  • Proton Austere card sleeve. It carries my license and a couple of cards for when I go out. Anything else goes in my work backpack or I use from my phone.
    https://oroton.com/austere-credit-card-sleeve-black-osfa

  • Have a look at Vulkit. I got mine off Amazon for $35 and I absolutely love it. I also bought one for my brother-in-law for his family and as a result all the men in his family have gone and bought one also.

  • I switched a few years ago to this:

    https://www.bigskinny.net/l-shape.html

The material is super thin and durable and still looks new.

The thickness of the wallet filled with 20+ cards is shorter than my previous leather wallet completely empty.

Would not think twice about getting another one when (if) it eventually dies.

  • +1

if I must carry a wallet, the Bellroy card pocket,
For 99% of the time, it's just a phone with my license & $20 stuffed in the back of it.
(we need digital licenses in Victoria)
Never had a problem with tap & go payments.

  • +1

    Status Anxiety, Noah, tri-fold.

Loved it so much I have bought 4 to last me for the rest of my life.

  • +1

I've got Belroy Note Sleeve I've had for nearly 10 years. I got that with the intent to significantly reduce the number of cards I was carrying. I'm down to five and could probably cut at least two of these: Drivers licence, Credit Card, Private Health, Myki and work access card. It's amazing how many times I've forgotten my wallet since I tend to use the phone/watch for all payments these days. Give me a digital licence and I think I'd be fine without a wallet a majority of the time. I'd love to have work transition to a digital access card, but the corporate security world can't even share access cards between building half (most!?) of the time so technically I have three work access cards although the other two live in my work bag and are used less often… if only we could get on board with digital credentials delivered to our phones.

  • Florsheim. It's taken a beating with about 20 cards approx 8 years old.

  • Bellroy Note Sleeve Wallet - Ranger Green - got it a month ago - I like it!

  • -2

    Hermes. MC² Copernic wallet :)

  • I bought a Ridge wallet about a year ago, and I stopped using it once it put holes in my jeans. Now it sits in my car, which isn't a problem since I use Google Wallet for actually paying for things. I wish Victoria would release a digital license already!

  • Some cheap card holder for 4 cards, everything else is done with the phone

  • Had a $35 bi-fold leather wallet for over 10 years. Then was gifted a designer brand card holder and have been using that for maybe 4 years now. It holds 4 cards and a folded $50 note.

  • I use a very minimalistic wallet similar to the Vulkit already linked.

I prefer the tab to pull rather than mechanics that have higher chance of breaking.

Had mine for 2 years and still going strong!

  • I don't always carry a wallet, but when I do it's one of these:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Dlife-Wallet-Pocket-Minimalist-Sec…

    • If I carried a wallet I’d carry one like that 👌🏽

  • Apple

  • +1

Digital wallet. Or the Mrs handbag…

  • +2

Digital all the way - Drivers license inside the phone cover. That's it.

  • Got this to hold the cards that I still need to carry: https://amzn.asia/d/bcF4wOa
I still need to carry a handful of cards for work CC, access card, ID, secondary bank card in case phone is flat, Costco card. I also keep a $1 coin for the trolleys at Costco too.

  • I have my front wallet bifold from Popov Leather I bought 9 years ago. Still works fine but I can't/don't carry cash so it's just cards in here. If I have the occasional note I can just shove it in one of the card slots but prefer not to.

  • Secrid Wallet for the few cards you need, everything else in Stocard / Google Wallet

  • The only reason I still carry one is for the company door card… no way to get rid of it unless the company wants to invest $$$. Other than that all digitalised…Using Bellroy since they started … 3rd one … upgrade..love them and found them useful when overseas if needing to carry a bit of cash..

  • After going through a PU-Leather wallet from surf shops every year, I bought a no-name one off ebay, from an Australian company. Just searched for 'genuine cow leather' and got one with the slots I liked, delivered for $30ish.

Lasted 7 years so far and still going strong.

  • Barebones wallets, often go on sale for half price. Nice, small and simple leather wallets. Had one for a few years and still looks great.

    • +1

Another Slimfold user here as well. Love my Micro Soft Shell, thinnest and lightest wallet I ever owned.

  • Bottega bifold wallet that the wife got me for my birthday. I don't care too much about designer stuff but this was more about the sentimental value.

  • Cant afford a wallet so used a left over patch cable for my bills

  • In 2016 I made one out of electrical tape.

In 2017, I found the Exentri wallet and have been rocking it for about 5 years now. It does pretty much everything I'd like it to do.

Quick access on the outsides so the wallet doesn't need to be opened, and so you also don't need to pull a tab to reveal cards. Plenty of room inside for more cards, and easy access notes compartment that doesn't require you to pre-fold them.

Given it's currently holding 13 cards and about 10 notes, couldn't be happier. Though with tap-to-pay from phones being quite accessible these days, it's seeing less and less use.

  • i have the old version of this blaq wallet from myer.
    https://www.myer.com.au/p/blaq-pebbled-leather-magnetic-clos…

its thin, currently holding 8 cards and i like that you have about 4 quick access spots. probably about 8 years old now.
had a hugo boss before which was pretty much 2 slot wallet and apple wallet (the old leather ones from the gift shop) before that, also 2 slot.

    thinner the better.

  • +1

I think digital payment is more convenient

  • Cash in sock

  • Milleni bifold because the cash and coin compartments zip up and I don't fancy having lose change float about in my pockets.

    https://www.rivers.com.au/Product/Detail?CategoryId=77015&Pr…

  • Wallet is just an app on the iPhone. I don't even bother loading store cards, they just use your mobile number.

Ozbargain stuck in 2002 again. I have no need to carry a physical wallet.

  • +1

On my second Bellroy Card Sleeve, perfect size for me. I rarely carry cash (if I do it just goes in my pocket), so it’s more than enough room for my QLD licence (mostly for bars), Go card, debit and credit card. The latter two are on my phone but there’s occasions where places won’t accept Apple Pay (e.g. flights). Every other loyalty card is on my phone.

  • I have an LV wallet. Never going back to anything else.

  • Bellroy Note Sleeve, picked a near new one up in a used goods store in Japan for $30 - best wallet i've ever had.

  • Who needs a wallet or cash? Just buy a phone case with space for ur license + back up card (in case tap to pay is not working).

  • Bought a Bellroy in 2014 and still going strong

  • Givenchy. But I have no money inside :')

  • I got a Bellroy note sleeve, bit pricier than your everyday leather wallet but it's by far my favorite I've ever had, and a lot more compact than it feels it should be.
