  • Is this phone easy to unlock ? I am going overseas and I need a phone where I can just use the local sim cards.

  • Specification can be found on GSMArena:

    http://www.gsmarena.com/vodafone_858_smart-3955.php

    Notably:

    • HSDPA2100 only
    • 240x320 2.8" display
    • Android 2.2
    • 528 MHz ARM 11
    • 130MB internal but has microSD slot

I think that's the same CPU as the original HTC G1 and HTC Magic?

    • Newer chipset then the G1 and Magic, so similar architecture but not the same CPU.
Quadband GSM makes it useful as a throwaway for travelling with, no idea about unlocking it though

      • Unlocking looks possible with DC Unlocker…costs an extra 10 bucks it seems.

This is not a good phone. Get the Huawei X3 for $69 instead.

  • is the modem any good?
strange that cant seem to find reviews on it…other than dicksmith's reviews

  • +1

wag320n for $49 is probably a better choice for routers etc

    • Just read some of the reviews on that N-150 modem… LOLLL. Can see why it is so cheap.

      • yes and the wag320n gets hammered in the reviews

  • This thing will frustrate you - too underpowered for pretty much anything.
Spend a little more - get a whole lot more.

Recommend X3 for $69 - bare minimum or $152 for the Huawei G300 an outstanding phone that will keep up if your budgets goes that far.

    Edit:
Just realized your going overseas so I guess you will need 900/2100 phones.

    • Could u pls let me know where can i buy an X3 for $69 ?

      • +1

Vodafone's website or any store - $69 is their standard price for it.

        http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/buy-huawei-x3-bla…

edit: Not sure how to buy it online without a recharge, but any store should have them.

Dick Smith has the X3 for $69 too, but I'd suggest you don't buy one. It's prone to freezes, lockups, etc and has poor battery life (lucky to last 1 day). Don't do it! On the other hand, if the LG P690f is still on special at Coles (via FlyBuys), that's better in every respect; it covers 850/2100, like the X3. Unlock it for $2, there's a thread about the P690f on ozbargain.

        • Agree with tassie Pete - the LG Optimus Spirit for $49 from Coles is a bargain, and I unlocked it with a $2 LG unlock code obtained from eBay. Good spare phone/travel phone

Hmmm my experience with the X3 was fine.
Mind you, I kept the apps to a minimum and pretty much just used it as a phone/browser.
Anyhow the OP will need a 900/2100mHz phone for OS unless they are traveling to the US.

        • LG Optimus Spirit deal expired at Coles.

i love this review about the phone on the site (poor buyer had it break down on them twice) still though i have now added non respondable to my dictionary of words i didn't know existed.. hahahahahaha

          crystal
          Pros:
          big screan
          Cons:
alot of the programs are non respondable

  • looks okay for a bike GPS tracker :P
