  • "Digital Audio Inputs (2 x Optical / 2 x Coaxial) for television, game consoles"

Not really, lol. Pretty much all hdmi these days.

I'll not saying its a bad amp but not having hdmi for earc etc… Dealbreaker.

This is probably not the amp for you. It's aimed at people who want to use it for playing music vs watching movies on their home theatre (based on only having 2.1 channels).

      • +1

Mate, nothing wrong with a 2.1 setup for movies.

More than 4.1 does not suit my physical room layout. Also 2.1 is very easy to set up and real speakers sounds better than a sound bar.

Tldr: being 2.1 isn't the issue for me buying this, not having hdmi is.

    • +1

Very few high quality stereo amps have HDMI.

Optical is perfectly fine for games consoles & tvs.

      • No. Neither ps5 nor xbox series s/x nor switch have optical out without buying special hardware. Modern tvs are all about earc although yes they can have optical (probably going to get phased out due to earc though).

It's an old statement that they copy pasted. It hasn't been correct for 2-3 years now.

I think you're just looking at this as the wrong sorta device. It's not an AVR so I don't see why you'd want to run individual sources into this. You'd use this with your TV by outputting directly from the TV to one of the digital inputs, for which optical is completely sufficient. Sure, maybe it'll be phased out at some stage but it's been present on all the OLEDs I've been looking at recently at least.

eARC is of no value to an amp like this as it has no ability to decode or process the sort of tracks that eARC can carry. I can see how ARC might be beneficial for people who want to use CEC and get volume control with their remote, but in terms of the actual audio I don't see what you get out of it.

          Horses for courses.

Agree, HDMI ARC would be awesome on stereo amps. Not everyone wants a 5.1 amp for 2.1 setup as they don’t sound as good for the same price point

      • This person gets it

      • Optical can handle 2.1 similar to HDMI. Agree with the issue that gaming consoles only have hdmi out. Having said that most TVs have 4 HDMI inputs.

  • I have always wondered how much better will the music will be if buying a stereo amp like this vs buying a receiver of the same brand.

    • +1

There are a lot of people who say that dollar for dollar, a 2.1 amp will be better than a 5.1 AVR because it's all focussed to a single fucntion not heaps of them

      • 2 channel is the way!

    • +1

My $1200 2.1 stereo system sounds so much better than my brother's 7.1 $10k+ system professionally installed. TV sounds so much clearer and music is good. I'm sure his system has the potential in the right setup/environment, but the law of diminishing return is obvious.

  • So this amp is for LR + subwoofer?

    • On the spec sheet it says zone 2 subwoofer output. Whatever that means but it does looks like it has an output for active sub…
