I have a couple of these in our kitchen, office and ensuite. Very easy to read

Can your hear the ticks on a silent night?

      • +1

        Yes

      • From your bedroom you can hear the kitchen clock =P

      • Yep

        • Yeah, I just got one. The ticking is pretty loud. Some people like it. It reminds me of my childhood (when clocks were wound, not battery operated). I also got the $2 one from IKEA. Silent as a rock.

          • @wisdomtooth: What is the name of the IKEA clock?

            • +1

@Donatello: Dunno. Bought it months ago; not sure it's still available. May have been a clearance. I was there for something else, and just impulse bought it for my son on the way out. Ended up getting the Kmart one for him, bc the IKEA is too discreet.

  • +7

    Was $3? $0.75 saving.

    • +10

      That's 25%.

Plenty here go nuts over 10%.

      • +1

True some will even pay $50 for one

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/754702

(although it is supposed to be silent) 😀

      • +2

Context is important no? 10% off something like apple is pretty significant, but 10% off something at target is common.

        • 10% off Amazon brakes breaks ozbargain

    • When I bought mine last week it said was $10

  • +6

Could you fit a wrist strap to this im short sited .

    • +15

Tie a chain to it and wear it as a necklace.

      • +3

Flava flav style. I like it.👌

    • +2

I suspect it won’t be long before Apple Watches are this big. Casio G-shock will then rise to the challenge.

    • +3

      Sighted.

      • Long sighted

  • I hope 3M tape would hold this on the wall? Can't risk putting nail n the wall of rental apartment

    • +2

If you're in Victoria, you have nothing to worry about. In other states, well, just fill it with $3 filler from Bunnings, or toothpaste if you're desperate.

      • Thanks. In nsw unfortunately

        • +8

These are so light you will probably need to fix it to stop it floating away rather than it falling off. Simple 3m strips or even a big wad of bluetack will work.

          • +1

@RockyRaccoon: Another option is the stick on 3D Wall Clocks on Aliexpress - US$3.05 + GST delivered

The photos are a bit misleading because it's only 40cm diameter according to the template provided.

          • +1

@RockyRaccoon: Bluetack will melt under a lot of Australian summers though. Happened to me in Northern NSW and again in Brisbane.

        • +3

Ask your landlord - I put up tv wall brackets and picture hooks with their blessing. On final inspection I took off the wall bracket and tore the plaster paper. I patched and painted it. They viewed the holes as wear and tear. They asked me to leave all the picture hooks for the next tenant.

Or you can use a commander strip.

I tried to stick this to the wall in the bathroom, rather than drill a hole through the tiles. I guess the tiles were too shiny and it slipped off and shattered into many, many pieces.

Annoying , but it was noisy anyway and I just got a much more expensive desk clock (relatively) to put on the window sill instead.

      • Why do you have a clock in the bathroom?

        • +2

I have one in my bathroom so I can keep my shower time in check before work. I don't have much time to shower, prepare lunch, organise kids, etc.

    • Tape will still damage the paint.

      • +3

Depends on the tape. The 3M ones have a pull tab that makes them come of seamlessly.

      • +1

You haven't heard of 3M Command products?

Thanks got one for the bedroom, Valentine's Day gift now sorted.

    clock ticking so loud

    • +5

Thats good, can wake up early and become the next Wolf of Wall Clock Strèet

    • You'll get used to it. Put it in your bedroom for white noise.

  • +2

For and extra $1.25 I’d probably get this as it looks a little nicer https://www.kmart.com.au/product/white-plastic-clock-4323590…
Having said that all these cheap clocks are noisy. I have bought nicer looking Kmart ones previously and replaced the mechanism with a silent mechanism. But if ticking doesn’t bother you they certainly have cheap clocks.

  • +1

    Is it silent?

    • +3

      Absolutely not.

Replaced one of these with the silent IKEA ones because it was driving me mad.

      • +1

Unfortunately IKEA discontinued one of their best bargains, the Tjalla clock in silver.

        • +1

I have one of these in my office, but have to use alkaline batteries. When using rechargables, it will lose time. Apparently this is because of the sweep motion requiring more power than 1.2v batteries can provide.

          • +3

            @flagger:

because of the sweep motion requiring more power than 1.2v batteries can provide.

It's actually because the second hand isn't balanced, so when traversing from 6 to 12 the motor has to lift the second hand against gravity. It's not a lot of weight, but the motor is severely underpowered, for long battery life.

I got reasonable life out of eneloops by removing the second hand. It just pulls out. But then you won't notice as easily when the battery goes flat.

You could shorten the second hand to 20mm long with wire cutters, that will probably work almost as well as removing the second hand. And you'll still have an indication that it's working.

            • @Russ: Never really thought about this but it's an awesome comment.

I actually did a test with 2 clocks - one has a seconds hand (not sweep) & had stopped, so I took the battery out & put it in another one with no seconds hand & it's keeping time. No more clocks with a seconds hand for me.

              • @WatchNerd:

No more clocks with a seconds hand for me.

If the seconds hand is balanced, you can leave it on, and you'll still get good battery life. But you'll have to pull the hand off, and check it actually is balanced, not just having a "decorative" counterweight that doesn't actually balance correctly. You do this by laying a pencil or similar on the table, and balancing the second hand on the pencil. If the balance point is at the axle, it's properly balanced.

The second hand on the clock in this deal looks like it may be balanced: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/756379

      • Thanks, I order the ikea one

    • +3

Yep, when you take the battery out :)

Defeats the whole point of a clock

  • +2

I bought this clock three years ago at $2.50 and found it pretty accurate. What a good clock at such low price!
Can hear the clock clicking sound when it is very quiet at night but it does not bother me.

  • +1

I have a few, it is a loud tick, tick, tick, tick …..

    • +2

Get the Ikea one, no tick tick

    • +2

The ticking is the worst.. drives you crazy

All the people after hardware to hang things that are renting.
These are bloody amazing and just leave 2 small holes you can easily fill
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/3m-claw-picture-hanger-3-pack_p0…

    • +2

Lol spend $18 to hang a $2.25 clock.

      • Not just on price.

        Holds up to 20kg

        Seems like an extreme overkill.

    • +1

My kitchen clock on one of these: https://www.bunnings.com.au/command-large-metal-adhesive-uni…

Has travelled with us between moves, just use a new strip on the back. A few rentals ago I had 54 command strips on the wall and like 3 of them damaged the incredibly old paint when we took them off, because people helping us move didn't pull them down properly. Last place was less strips but 0 instances of wall damage.

Coming to a high school classroom near you

Bought about 3-4 of these at work a while ago and they all broke quite quickly..

  • dont leave it in a hot car after shopping, it will warp and get ruined

  • True oz bargainer just draw one on the wall.
    $0😜

  • +1

    Wow a lot discussion over a clock…
My doctor gave me a free one from the drug company viagra. I had to throw it out as got stuck at 12 midday

    • Should have kept it as a reminder to take drugs, it'd be right twice a day.

  • Can it be used as a dinner plate?

  • our first one of these listed about 8 years til the mech have up. splashed out$2.25 for its replacement yesterday, cz, it works fine, and clear to see.

  • as others have said, do be aware, the tick tick sound is really loud.

    • +1

There goes my idea of strapping this to a few sticks of dynamite. Back to the drawing board.

  • +1

    What is a clock?

  • Yes it is loud, I bought 3 for office clocks, where the tick tocking isn't a concern. Cheap and nasty, probably, but convenient in the short term. Thanks for posting it. I order 3 C&C from Kmart Bundaberg early today and they were ready for collection after lunch.

  • Is it a loud ticker?

  • Going for that classroom aesthetic.

  • Good to see people can still read these clocks. Younger generation is digital only. So sad

  • Thanks, Just happened to break the glass while changing the battery last week - ordered 2.

  • +1

Went to Kmart yesterday to buy this, in my hand didn't look great and ended up buying the one not on sale for $3.50 , which looked better and doesn't have the annoying noisy seconds arm

        • Did you look at the Wood Look Clock on special as well for $9.00?
          Stock appears to be low.

  • +1

I saw it in the shop but $9 is way above my budget for a wall clock. Spent all my money in that n+ Mercedes e-bike https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/752762
I'll leave that one for the wealthy shoppers
