  • So how much for s23 ultra 512 gb edition?

    • +3

      $1949

    • +25

      A kidney.

      • +3

Later iteration will require your first born.

        • +3

Kids are more expensive. They would be doing us a favour.

  • +12

How much will be shown on the invoice? The full price or discounted by $750?

    • Would like to know this too

      • Net price, not full price

        • Yes can confirm shows net price. I got an invoice texted to me but it still shows 256gb storage rather than 512gb…

          • @Marshmellow20: Does it reflect the $750 as credit/discount?

            • @shadow131: It had the $750 shown as a 'discount' on the invoice. I paid the remaining balance the next day and got a final receipt which showed a full payment of $1649 paid

  • If I wasn't stuck on an optus contract i'd be all over this. Seems like a great deal

    • +23

      How long is your sentence?

      • Only signed up for for 24 month contract a couple months ago. Wasn't many decent deals around when i needed one

        • +1

Sounds like too_much_optus. If you were Boost, you wouldn't be in this situation. Always do 30 day pre paids end of the year and start of the new year.

        • +1

Why are you on too_much_optus? Like amy ozbargainer, it better to wait for a good deal than to get a bad deal. 24 months in Floptus hell is too long.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Agreed.
I'm on amaysim with their 6 month plan at half price!

      • +2

Almost a line and a half on my display. About 18 words.

  • can you port out for a day only and then port back in? or does it have to be the full 30 days?

    • Says 30 days in the t&cs

      • I did for a week and JB honoured the port back in.

  • I wonder how much the S22 Ultra will get reduced down to?

    • Little more than a dollar

    • I remember there wasn't many good deals on the S21 when the S22 came out, can imagine it's probably going to be the same this time.

If anything, because of the sales on the new phone, the old phone ends up more expensive when the new phone comes out.

    • Wait for another 3 months. The second hand channel should be less than $800 mark

  • +1

Still very happy with my s22 not enough of an upgrade to shell out an extra $900 after trade.

    • Better CPU on s23

    • +2

      Same, although s21 ultra.

Not enough changes to warrant the upgrade

      • +3

If we wanna play that game my s20 ultra is STILL killing it - plus is has a microsd card slot AND the front camera is a legit 40 megapixel.

The processor in the newer phones is great and I would not say not to one, but even the Exynos in the S20 series still does everything that you need and it does it well.

In fact there's probably quite a few people out there with the 5G Galaxy 10 that think it's doing a 'good job'.

        • +4

Yeah I wish they brought back the microsd slot…

        • do you still get security updates and if so for how much longer?

          • @BLAIL: Of course - Samsung's mobile phones get updates for 5 years - so it will be good for a while (2025).

            https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-sets-the-new-standar…

            • +1

@BargainHunterJohnnyB: Actually my 2019 Galaxy Note 10 Plus 4G is working fine and the battery is still decent and it does all I need it to do.

Wondering why do I need a new phone?

              • @techno2000: My Note 10+ dropped off a cliff to 51% health (2100mAh) out of nowhere recently! 😔

                • +1

@John Kimble: I think you can get Samsung to put a new battery in for $100.

                • +1

@John Kimble: Mine has gone UP 91%. I use AccuBattery Pro & keep 20-80% batt. So far it's 2x better than iPhone's battery lifespan. I even use 25W super fast charging that could reduce lifespan (sometimes 45W super fast 2.)

                  • @taki: I'm the same, but dropped 🤷🏻‍♂️😔

                • @John Kimble: Had the same problem, seems sussed

              • @techno2000: Jbhifi offers $500 for the Note 10+ 512gb versions,.. just checked for mine there ok with lite scratches too 😀

                • @Italkdigital: Yes.I already did a trade-in with JB and am rocking the S23 ultra now.

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: Your phone (S20 Ultra) is not on that list.

              • @tp0: That's a good point, although it's currently on Android 13..

The security updates are the only real concern - I don't even notice a difference between android 11 and android 13.. all looks the same to me.

        • If you wanna keep playing that game, my Nokia 3320… Nah forget it.

          • @raj koothrappali: That's not the same game at all - the game changed in 2012ish and again in 2015.

They better have something else planned to roll out in the next couple of years, because the phones have not gotten that much better since 2016.

From the S20 (but really S10+ 5G) to the S23 the improvements are not that great at all - in they got rid of a micro sd card slot which should be in all mobile phones.

Compare the difference between an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 4s to an iPhone X and the difference isn't that big really - let alone from an x to a 14.

We forget that most of the features that we 'need' for a 'smart' phone experience were implemented a long time ago - what is this iPhone 14 max pro sh*t that costs more than a laptop and how does it improve one's life anyway?

Even my old 6s is still 'good enough' to be used for anything including email, gaming, pictures, videos, icloud, music, everything that a normal person needs - AND it looks bloody good, too.

Even 4k recording isn't that much better than 1080p - often times you can't tell the difference between a good 1080 bluray and a native 4K UHD… unless your TV is 75 inches +

      • Can't afford it by the sound of it

  • +2

kind of works out kind of doesn't,

    s23 256gb
$828 + $559 phone after discount = $1427 over 12mths, can look at it as buying phone outright & getting a free sim plan

if you don't need 60gb per month, average 12mth pre paid sim is $150-$200 + samsung edu deal $1059 better off going this way

    • +2

It's good if your work covers your phone bills

  • Question…
    I'm currently telstra already.
Can I get a new number? And if so, can I then change the 12-month plan with the new number to my current number? Thanks

    • You can, there's a few threads detailing the process. However it's a right pain, lots of Telstra reps don't know about it, can cause Sim downtime and has caused account issues.

So…. Probably don't unless you desperately need to lol.

    • Simply buy a $2 Optus / Amaysim SIM and port out, and go to any TGG outlet and port back in to Telstra to benefit from this deal. Just don't disclose to them that you ported out recently. Worked for me in past.

      • Same! Got a $700 gift card out of it at JB!

    • +1

I've done this before twice. Definitely works. But as @mattman said, it is a pain and you need to get the right rep to be able to do it. I'm trying right now. Works out to be only about $500~ for the phone after $700 back from selling a 21 ultra 512gb.

      • keep us posted how you go with this!

        • Yeah all good. 2nd rep I spoke to understood what I was saying and had no issues doing it. Just wasted time on the first clueless agent.

I just explained it like you would to a 6 year old and they got it.

Eg. I have plan 1, plan 2. I want to get plan 3. Cancel plan 1 and migrate plan 1 number to plan 3.

    • Why you need to port out? Deal says this is also for existing customers?

      • Only for new & port in, not for existing Telstra number

  • +17

Struggling to sell exorbitantly overpriced phones with less features than 5-10 years ago, are we?

    • +7

Totally agree. My S10+ still going strong after 4 years. And have same amount of RAM

    • +2

They have not improved that much since the S10+ 5g

    • +1

Yeah I don't understand how people can just buy these every year or 2. I'm still on the S8+ and might just go for this only because my phone's starting to die

      • +1

Dude I just buy the older phone for 1000 less. So I bought a s20 ultra end of 2021 for $850 vs $1800 in 2020.

You could just opt for a s21 ultra or maybe an s22 ultra when they go on sale?

      • +1

I'm always happy to keep an old phone, but find that the battery just doesn't want to keep it's charge for a full day. If you have access to a charger all day, fine, but if not, they we are cornered into getting a new phone.

Personally, I push it out to a minimum of two years. Refuse to buy one even if needed.

        • Get you battery replaced in this case…

      • Same as people who upgrade their PCs every generation, they're in the minority and it'll be a shrinking minority as the tech gets better and better. I don't understand those people either, but then I don't understand people who line up outside stores to buy anything.

I read a thing the other day that 2022 was the lowest smartphone shipments since 2013, and while some of that is supply chain it's also because people keep their phones for over 3 years now on average. Thus why there's a huge preorder bonus, I suspect.

      • I would buy the s24 Ultra if under the screen camera and flat screen from a s22 ultra. S23 ultra isn't much of an upgrade for me.

    • +2

Common across the whole phone industry.
We've reached a point where the market is saturated and phones are lasting longer.

I'm at about 2.5 years on a S20FE and there is no reason for me to upgrade. Even my previous phone (P20 Pro) which was returned under warranty would still be ok other than lack of updates.

    • Yep, its gonna take a killer deal for me to upgrade from my p30 i scored for bugger all courtesy of a jb deal nearly 3 years ago. Battery slowing up but otherwise see no reason to add another monthly bill to my pile.

    • +1

Love it when someone sees things for what they are.

    • +2

To be honest theres only so much innovation you can cram into a handset.

And instead of keeping features that people actually have a use for like microsd slot, ir blaster, fm radio and 3.5mm headphone jack. They removed them.

    • I want a new phone for a new camera but my old one has an IR port and I use it all the time!

      • Exactly. Ir port is so handy. Missed it when i had my lg v20.

        • Wife says turn on or off the AC and I don't have to get out of the couch. Such a shame such a cheap thing is dying out.

    • 100% agree. I don't understand the obsession some people have with upgrading. I had a 4 year old phone until I accidentally dropped it in the pool last week (IP68 but glass cracked so it died). I'd have kept it for another 4 years or longer if I could. Aside from a few gimmicky things, there's nothing a $2000 Samsung does that's of any use that my old one didn't do. IMHO, if you shell out for an upgrade on a mobile that's working fine you're a mug.

  • +2

Can you use your e-gift card on the phone? Or does it have to be used later? I can't seem to find this info.

    • I think you can: when I completed the transfer to Telstra, TGG sent me a link to an invoice that I could pay online, using CC or PayPal (amongst other options) and the option to use a gift card or storecash as well. Forgot to take a screenshot, soz.

  • +1

There is also a chance you are able to get the $90 storecash deal which is displayed when buying the phone

    • Yes, the store rep confirmed that I should get the $90 storecash, provided that I signed up for it (with the phone number that will be linked to the invoice) before paying the invoice.

  • Bit of just games here, their phones start at $300 more expensive. Its an OK deal, not as fantastic as it might seem at first glance.

  • +8

I wonder if all the other offers kicking around TGG can be stacked with this… to add up to:

    • $750 off S23 series
    • $300 GC with $69/12m plan
    • $250 GC with Galaxy S23 Ultra
    • $90 storecash with Galaxy S23 Ultra
    • $150 storecash with PayPal Pay-in-4
    • Double storage offer for S23 series

If so, effectively total cost is $828 mobile plan + $899 Samsung S23 Ultra 512GB = $1,727, but then you'll get $790 in store credits too ($550 GC + $240 storecash).

    • Let us know if it works😁

    • Would jump on this if it were doable!

    • +1

doubt the $300GC for the plan would work ontop of the others but worths a shot,
the only one im not sure will stack is the Paypal deal.
all others seem to stack, even states on the good guys page
      https://imgur.com/a/gJlOYYh

    • +1

Yeah actually I checked again, and T&Cs state the Pay-in-4 cash offer expired end of January.

      So it'll be $1,727 outlay for a S23 Ultra 512GB + 12m Telstra 60GB service + $640 in GG credits.

      • Don't suppose you can do the figures for a 256GB 23+ instead of the ultra?

        • Ughhhh I just realised I calculated the wrong price for S23 Ultra… i should've had coffee first before doing maths. The $899 for the "Samsung S23 Ultra" is actually the price of the Plus.

          Anyway for the plus… $828 mobile plan + $899 Samsung S23 Plus 512GB = $1,727

Store credits you might be able to get add up to $540 ($150GC + $90 StoreCash + MAYBE another $300GC from the Telstra plan itself)

          • @toomuchdogfur: I think the problem with these gift cards is they cost us money to use them (duh) - we need to need an item in the first place.

That's $500 a year more for my phone plan but it is quite a bit cheaper for the phone. (Though I only need 256GB)

If I didn't already get a monitor and drone last year, might be good but I'll be damned if I know what to do with GC :(

    • Store cash expires right? I got on mine quick smart to get a DualSense for my PS5 for like $31 a while back

    • +1

There's absolutely no way the $300 is going to stack as well.

Same as the JB plans, the "standard" gift card inclusions never stack when you're taking one of the phone offers.

So it's the $750 off, plus whatever gc (100/150/250) and storecash bonus apply.

      • +1

Do you know if the 750 off is reflected as a discount or just gc on the invoice?

  • No international calling pack is a bummer.
Does Telstra still offer the old $10 intl calling pack?

    • was on similar plan with JB till 2 months back. Telstra had confirmed that no international calling pack can be added with JB/TGG plans

      • +1

What the. How can they have such a plan in this day. Not international rules out any plan for me.

  • For those already on a $69 Telstra plan (uncontracted) I assume we can just get a new service then merge the accounts? Anyone gone down this path?

    • This is what i was thinking… just dont know how!

  • +1

Do i need to buy the Telstra Plan first?
After that how do i clain $750 off RRP from The Good Guys?

Can anyone outline the steps please?

  • Double the 512 gb storage? Don’t see the 1TB Samsung 23. Do they even produce it?
