Reviews on this model are quite harsh

    • +6

Already have the 75" Google version which seems ok.. got this for the kids, pretty much free via EDR redemption will just throw it on gumtree if it doesn't work out.

    • +4

Are they? Most reviews on the last deal were about android models, and the productreview page is a different model with people reviewing even different models.

      • Right, considering that these are little more than 'badge engineering', different models could be from different manufacturers.
The only relevant reviews would be of this specific model

    • +1

      "TV lasted 2 hours"

      Lmao

  • +2

These are alright if you connect an Android TV box and have an external sound system.

I got the blaupunkt 75 inch which maybe a rebranded similar model and I'm not very happy with it. The blacks are not the black. The screen brightness is uneven when displaying dark scenes The Android interface is slow. I've added a. Chromecast when I switch it off with the remote it doesn't come back on unless I try several times with the power button and Google Assistant button. If you use it a lot, I would suggest consider a better quality panel

    • +4

Turn the backlight down a heap, and up the brightness and contrast.

Try turning it off, and on with a long press. Remember reading it does a cache clear / reset or similar.

As for uneven blacks. That is every 65 inch+ edge lit tv. It's just too far from the edges too the middle..

lol look at these in person they are trash

    • They are just tuned trash.

Set them up right and they will look as good as any other 4K led TV (ie. These are probably LG panels).

But..capacitors etc will be lower rated and wont last as long in high temps. Put em on a wall in full sun, or above a heater etc and you will be one of the people complaining the TV died in 2 years.

      • Set them up right and they will look as good as any other 4K led TV (ie. These are probably LG panels).

        How to tune them right?

    • Can't speak for the WebOs ones.. but all the Android displays I looked at were capped at 1080p which looked average. Change settings on each hdmi port to 1.4 rather than auto and it seemed to make a difference.

Verbatim what my last tinder date said to me.

140cm is small screen?? That's the most popular size & anything above is ridiculous waste of space (rents are going up & freedom of relocation is better than fake "freedom of speech").
I can see the same picture quality on 81cm (diagonal, Samsung) or 69cm Dell (x2) with simple geometry trick 1/2 distance = 4x visible size. If you want to increase the diagonal size just come closer (& less distraction from people passing in front of you or complaining about the volume :).

*compared to the 75"/85" deals posted lately…

Bonus is this one fits in a hatchback for pickup.

      • That's huge advantage :)
With smaller sizes, you can get 2x personalised TVs.

  • I signed for 10% off with Everyday extra Free trial and my card is linked to Big W but when I am going to pay, I am not getting the 10% ED discount.

Any suggestion on how to get the 10 off ED discount?

Check your EDR account.. need to add the generic code on checkout

      XJAN2023

      • Thank you very much.

$341 before 10% CB works out to $307 which is excellent value

        • Pretty sure CR doesn't stack with Big W codes… Bonus for you if it does 👍

  • Better to get the 65" Eko 4k with android TV. Mine was $699, going like a champ. Samsung Atmos soundbar and Chromecast with Google TV makes it a great setup.

    • +1

Yup same here. Got the 65 abs it’s been great.

    • They dont seem to be selling the 65 EKo pro any more (Dolby Vision support). Been waiting on a deal on them.

      • Don't know why it's still on their website then. No stock available no doubt.
        https://www.bigw.com.au/product/eko-65-4k-ultra-hd-android-t…

        • Ah nice. I searched Eko and the model number last night and it didnt show up.

          • @tunzafun001: hard to say if any stock though to be honest, at least not in stores.

            • @G-rig: The website shows that there 'allegedly' is some stock in SA. But…that doesn't mean much. Apparently even warranty returns show up as stock in the system.

Still not as cheap as they were here:

              • @tunzafun001: I was Happy with $699, worth every cent.
Sold a Sony FHD for $500 so was a $200 upgrade

                • @G-rig: Does it have any upscaling for free to air TV?

                  • @tunzafun001: Not sure - my FHD was no doubt better for FTA tv as out was a more expensive unit at the time, but 4k is great for streaming.

No idea what the pro model is, I've got the K650USGQ (QLED).

        • K650USG is the pro model?

  • +1

Got a 60" from Aldi with webOS, it's got 60hz refresh rate, rest all seem to be good for what we paid for it! Not complaining at $500 mark! As it has been pointed out possibly LG panels too!

  • -1

I doubt it would be too cheerful.

  • I have a 55" Eko from 2 years ago and it has developed a shrill capacitor noise that randomly comes on when the TV is on or sometimes off.

Hopefully none of the new ones do that too.

    • Mine sounded like an internal explosion every time it was switched on. Then the screen began to look like a phone had smashed against the screen. Every so often it would work fine. It eventually died altogether though.

    • +5

Sad reality is both problems are around 78 cents to fix and will take 30 mins max (will be an electrolytic cap in there that will likely look like a puffer fish).

But we are a throw away society and basic repair skills are basically fading away.

      • If there's a how to or instructable for this I attempt to repair it before considering sending it to recycling.

        • +1

Mostly likely in the switchmode power supply area. Maybe look up switchmode power supply repair + capacitor on YouTube.

          • @tunzafun001: Most likely bung cap in the power supply but I cant really recommend newbs soldering 240+ volts with the potential for HV caps discharging into them + live AC

            • @King Tightarse: Yeah, that's fair. Some of those youtube videos from the Indian fellas (while quite good), dont have saftey as a priority (dont do the live testing). So I guess the disclaimer here is unplug it (dont just switch it off), wear gloves and leave it overnight to drain the caps.

      • Fun hobby to try and fix things depends how much your time is worth.. however if you pay someone to do it you'd be spedning more than it's worth in most cases.. and your time.

Can always advertise free to pick up and somoeone else would fix it or take it.

Good Guys have SHARP TVs (panels made in Japan, the units assembled in Malaysia) at very reasonable prices, rather than buying landfill junk. Good price though

    • The last tv I bought from big w was a Jvc and it had a Samsung panel. There's only 4 panel manufacturers last I heard, so it's sharp, LG, Samsung, and maybe changhong. Despite being Chinese, none of the TVs I have heard anyone finding out the brand for that were posted here were changhong, so none have"bad" panels, although they might be b grades from those manufacturers

  • I dunno it's either this or rubbing sandpaper on your skin.

  • Delivery - from $51 :P

  • We've got an older EKO. I think it's the same thing. The picture is fine but there is a bit of light bleed around the edges.

    • Back light is over driven. Turn the backlight down, and compensate (if even needed) by turning the brightness up.

Will also use much less power… And look better. Use a watt meter and your mind will be blown.
