  • Nice work OP! This is so close to exactly what I'm after… but can anyone confirm if this allows streaming to Android like a Monsoon Volkano? I've just read conflicting reports and still trying to find proper confirmation elsewhere.

    • +1

Bugger, doesn't look good if you're not an iTunes fan: http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/tuner/net…

Not to worry, the Monsoon Volkano can be had for around $10 more shipped from the US (eBay) and will work on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad & Android but obviously still better to buy something like this locally tho :(

Link to the Volkano if anyone's interested: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220953762174?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA…

      • no smart phone or tablet is a shame.

      • Reading the specs on the Volkano from that site. It specifies NTSC. Will that be suitable for broadcast channels in Oz?

        Might want to check this.

      • Works with Windows Media Centre…

EyeTV Netstream DTT is compatible with Windows 7 and works great with Windows Media Center. The included THC software for Windows supports many of the same features that are offered by EyeTV 3 software.

  • Even cheaper than Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-EyeTV-Satellite-Macintosh-10021…
My cheapo Dealextreme USB TV stick with TV Scheduler Pro does the basic DVR job without the streaming though…

  • Looks like it is out of stock in stores around Sydney. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

  • Do you need a good internet connection? Im only on ADSL 1

Will it kill my data too?

    • It works off the antenna. Nothing to do with ADSL

"Stream digital TV (DVB-T/Freeview) to the computers on your home network,Enjoy pristine digital quality television including HDTV where broadcast via DVB-T, Compatible with Mac and PC; both can use EyeTV Netstream DTT at the same time"

      http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/tuner/net…

    • Not the way it works. It receives Digital TV signals via an antenna then streams it to devices on your home network wired or wireless. Nothing to do with your ISP except if you want to bounce TV back out across the internet to your Tablet or Phone but I'm not sure this device can do that (but the Monsoon Volkano can).

    • Guys I think Twisty is referring to the ability of this device to stream to remote devices over 3G, much in the same way as a slingbox and is possible using the eyetv app on IOS.

ADSL1 should be borderline ok as IIRC, the eyetv adjusts streaming bitrate to suit the connection speed. As for data, yes it will kill your 3G data so best used when you can tap into a free wireless hotspot.

      • Maybe, but the question is why would you want to stream outside of the house, its only broadcast TV. You can get many over the internet TV apps.

If you follow my link above, you will see a diagram to explain its use. Not to say others havent gone further with it, but linking outside the house via ADSL is probably a rare use considering its for broadcast TV

Maybe if you want to turn on a recording remotely, but if that was possible that wouldnt take too much bandwidth.

Then again twisty's post could mean other things like you say

        from elgato

        Highlights

Stream digital TV (DVB-T) on your Mac, PC or iPad – wirelessly in a Wi-Fi network
Enjoy pristine digital quality television, including HDTV where broadcast via DVB-T
As a network device, it does not have to be connected to your computer; locate it wherever you have a convenient antenna outlet or reception is the best
Streams two TV channels to up to two computers at a time in the local network
Compatible with Mac and PC; both can use EyeTV Netstream DTT at the same time

        • True, it is just broadcast TV but sometimes you may want to see certain things live, and AFAIK there are no apps out there which stream live TV to remote mobile devices eg sports while at the park or beach, or the shire on your way home from work so you know why everyone is LMFAOing as you walk in the door…

Thanks for the link and specs quote, but I had one :) Well still do but it is on extended 'loan' so maybe I should get another at this price. I should point out that while using this streaming video feature I was on Bigpond Extreme Cable on the home side and NextG on the mobile device so it was pretty good, YMMV with other carriers.

But yes, as you say it's a pretty specific use of this product which isn't its primary use - though quite heavily discussed on forums when comparing against the slingbox, hd homerun etc.

        • +2

Well well - some more good info from here. Would never have thought of that use. Thanks, sure it might be of use some day.

  • Any idea if it works with Foxtel? Could solve a Foxtel sending issue in my house.

    • No it doesn't have any inputs for external devices, only an antenna in for the DVB-T.

What you need is either a slingbox or an avermedia homefree to stream foxtel to a pc/mac/mobile device.

  • There are some other solution like

    AVerMedia HD HomeFreeDuet F200

    http://www.avermedia.com/avertv/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?I…

    or

Hauppauge Broadway - can broadcast to remote device.

    http://hauppauge.com/site/products/data_broadway.html

    They are within $200.

  • it seems it is out of stock in Melbourne as well

  • Great price, but not available in the store up here…

  • Wouldn't this product be better as it supports HDTV?
    http://www.kaiserbaas.com/tv-radio/network-tv-tuner

    • The Elgato supports HD, I record HD stuff off mine no problem.

    • The Elgato product does Australian HDTV as well. It doesn't support DVB-T2 used for HDTV in, for example, Britain.

  • Thanks, ordered for pick up. I've been waiting for a while to get one of these.

  • nice find was after something like this, shame there doesn't appear to be any stock in WA

  • sold out in where i live and work.

  • gone. cant fond on dse site anymore

  • There was one available at the Robina store last night (I confirmed with them by calling them up)… and then when I called up this morning to get them to put it aside so I can drop around and get it, they told me it had already been put aside for someone else. Damn. Too slow.

    • You can order online for pickup, and it gets reserved for 48 hours

You dont pay until you pickup. You get an confirmed reservation. If you change your mind there is no charge.

  • thanks
got one from hornsby last night
    they had one more left

  • Yes thanks

Also got one from Hornsby today (reserved online yesterday)

  • Picked mine up this morning. Still one left in stock at Campbelltown Mall (Sydney), DSE as at 11am.

  • hornsby is sold out, unless you have a confirmed click&collect.

  • Well Hornsby did have one on the shelf (21th Jul @ 3 ish pm), I garbed it and took it to the checkout, and Chris the "Store Manager" told me I cant have it. Must be keeping it for himself, or his friends. So don't trust them.. just like all other "Special" staffs keep them for themselves and their buddies.

    • Thats an assumption. And you maybe correct, but look at onecentless post. At their post at 4pm says there was no stock unless you had a confirmed click and collect, so its about the same timing

He might have had an order via click and collect, which this until given it would be on its stock list, might have been allocated to the click and collect, and they could have been on their way to get it off the shelf.

With all DS short stock, its very advisable to use click and collect. Far more reliable than just rocking up to the store, given that most stores have been out of stock for some period.

And since you have 48hours to pick up, its a great way to reserve a unit vs talking to some junior staff member who may not be there should you turn up and find they forgot to put it away.

      • Ozpete, you could be right, but I visited the store prior to the 4pm post, and no, staff was on their way to teab it off the shelf, they had staff standing around.
I was not visiting the store to buy the item originally, just happen to be in Hornsby, and saw it on the shelf.

  • I just want to say that this device is f-ing amazing!!!!! Unbelievably superb if you have a Mac too.

Could not endorse it more, I bought it for $399 more than two years ago and it's probably exactly what you are looking for to publish TV to all your computers in your house. It's worth every penny.

Buy this at this price and you will be winning even more so.
