Looks like it can do any Android phone either with socket on bottom or side (see other pics in link). About time something like this was released for non-iPhoners… not that I'll be buying one as I really don't need it.

    • What about Galaxy Ace which the socket is at the top of the phone?

Hope they have designed it so that the socket can turn the other way to fit difference type of phone.

Look like they can but not sure whether it can stream audio from any apps from the phone, like my own online radio apps.

      • Thanks for the link & cudos to Philips for thinking outside the 'iPhone' square. Lets hope others like Logitech follow suit.

It will fit and charge any phone with micro USB connector (Not sure about tablet, as they might have different mAh charging power requirement).
Note that the microUSB are used for charging only, and the audio is streamed over Bluetooth. Any apps that support Bluetooth streaming can utilise this dock. It will even works with the phone undocked, as long as it is still within your phone Bluetooth transmission range.

Hmmmm will it fit a Nexus 7 I wonder?

Be aware that steaming AD2P audio over bluetooth is still mostly done in the only 96kbit format (pending your handset)

In other words, the audio will sound on par (or worse than) FM Radio. You'll especially notice lots of crackling when the volume is pushed up.

    • This is correct. Currently, the only way to stream higher quality audio is over USB, but in Android, it is just only been supported by some phone running latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
That means you also need speaker dock which support this new Audio over USB, which this Philips dock won't do.

  • I don't know if all new phones with micro usb have it but my Galaxy Note has line level audio out as part of the micro usb connector (which surprised me). My Samsung car dock uses it to plug into my car stereo 3.5mm jack input as well as charging. If this becomes standard it could be a good way of getting high quality audio out of an Android phone for future docks.

In that case I think using the 3.5mm plug is still the better option at the moment.

  • I got the similar model yesterday (at full price though) - http://dicksmith.com.au/dsau/navigation/product_details.jsp

I was disappointed when i got home as i didn't realise it only did bluetooth so the only advantage of having this speaker is it can charge and keep the phone in a still position rather than lying phone flat. However the power pack has this really big transformer so it looks really ugly!! …unless you have the speaker somewhere u can hide the cords behind. I think I may attempt to take this back for refund if they let me.

Samsung Galaxy S III official dock does have audio out using the micro USB of the phone and then outputting via 3.5mm output. So may try and find a different speaker.

  • Got one of these from a ds store. They fit a Samsung galaxy note well with the supplied adaptor base. Also the plug rotates 180 for those worried about compatibility. At last I have a stand alone alarm clock. Got sick of my phone alarm not going off in the mornings…
