  • It's only on the first time signup. If you sign up for 3 years, then you get the discounted rate. Renewals are definitely excluded.

Haven't tried the transfer method though.

I have used SiteGround for some clients.

I just host for clients because if something happens to their site then they'll be contacting me anyway. I don't host their email though, Wordpress is basically bulletproof but email always has potential to cause time consuming problems. I've disabled the email function completely on all my servers.

      • so how do your clients setup their email? Do you ask them to signup hotmail/gmail accounts?

        • I set them up with something like fastmail or zoho. Or if they are accustomed to something like round cube and don't want to learn anything new I'll put them on a reseller mxroute server, but honestly that's not a great solution because you don't get an email app that you can just sign into, not to mention that mxroute has zero customer support. For me the gold standard is gsuite, but if they need 15 accounts then the costs get a bit silly if they are just a tiny business with 15 minimum wage employees.

  • Seems like it's only on the first 12 months also. I got to checkout and comparing the 12 vs 24 months and when you choose 24 months, it will give you a discounted (but not the full discount) rate.

    No option for 3 years.

I've been looking for WordPress hosting because I want to off-load the management of WordPress (eg. security updates, etc) to someone else but haven't managed to find somewhere that doesn't charge an arm and a leg per month lol

WP Engine? Thats who I use.

      • Yeah, I've looked into WP Engine and a number of people also recommended them to me too.

Kind of a push considering I'm paying $2.50 a month for unmanaged hosting in Sydney — maybe one day when I'm too busy to even touch my WP instance I'll bite the bullet haha :)

        • Personally, I have my own VPS for my own Wordpress stuff. However, for clients I refer them to WP Engine so I don't have to worry about it.

If you have your own VPS, you could use the WP CLI and then setup cronjobs to run the WP CLI commands to do updates etc.

      • I thought siteground also manages the security updates etc dont they?

I like SG, but found their renewal fees after the initial discounted offer expensive.
I transferred from SG to NameCheap Stellar Plus.

    • That’s what I’m finding, hence the post for a workaround via a new account.
Hopefully someone can advise on this “transfer” method as a hack.
