    it's probably better than nothing

    I highly doubt it

It would at least give some clearance on the underside of the laptop compared to it resting on a pillow/blanket, right? My laptop's fan turns into a jet engine when I use it in bed lol

“Your notebook runs up to 50% cooler optimising efficiency and eliminating sluggish performance, shutdowns and uncomfortable heat build up”.

No. These claims are beyond dubious and if the fan itself is built to a price it will be too noisy to run and left off. At least some of the more reputable brands display their decibel rating. The plastic will also be nasty and you are better off just putting a pencil underneath the laptop to offset it from the surface.

With the six months warranty, I can see this being landfill sooner rather than later.

      It's $2 ffs

      • Unfortunately doesn't make it any less crap

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. This should be OzBargain and not OzCraptastic otherwise there would be more cheap and nasty products posted.

One other issues with these cheap USB fan driven products - besides the noise through use of cheap ball bearings you can cause damage if plugging directly into your laptop or docking station port. Our workplace had a bunch of cheap USB powered desk fans given to staff by management and soon thereafter half of the Dell laptops were performing slow or crashing. IT isolated it to the fans.

@BlueGlowOne: Agreed, and the argument of "its $2 ffs" doesn't mean its free from valid criticism.

hmmm, I think I may be able to repurpose this to make a DIY magnetic stirrer.

Better than keeping the laptop on your legs to cook your tender parts.

Ah catch is becoming like online 2 dollar shops.. please dont buy… landfill….

It is a Kogan alternative, but worse.

  • It's got good reviews.
ET likes it. (I like ET)

Landfill fodder, dunno if thats worthy of a downvote but I feel like it should be, No one is getting any performance benefit out of this single, embarrassingly small fan(they don't even specify the size). You are paying Catch $2 to dispose of their lost gamble.

  • Just came here to say - I bought this from catch Christmas 2021 and it is cheap, but it works well. I pulled it out on Wednesday when it was stinking hot and my laptop thanks me. It hums quietly, (sound is kind of masked as the fan in the middle of the pad). No louder than the laptop's fan when it's on. I notice my laptop not requiring to turn into a jet, and keep my laptop's metal body cool, as it isn't very nice using the built in keyboard when the metal body is hot on a humid day (hot hands).

  • i agree with the anti-landfill sentiments.

but i'm wondering if something like this (with more suitable material/fan) would be good to compliment a budget/seldom used soldering station.

ie.. to blow the fumes directly up (or suck down into a filter box)

should be able to have the fan right below the workpiece.

dunno.. haven't given it much thought
