How long do I have to activate it?

    • -4

NVM its optus. Practically unusable in Urban Sydney

      • Yeah - used to be good, but something happened a bt over a year ago around my way.
Whilst getting credits upon complaint is nice, I also need coverage.
        It was bye bye Optus.

    • +6

Must activate within 30 days of purchase.

      • +2

they dont seem to enforce this, I have activated up to 90-100 days from purchase.

        • +4

Don't know that I'd want to risk $80+ on it.

        • +2

You can activate later but you just forfeit any included inclusion bonus. For example you don't get extra bonus data if it's advertised to be.

          • @hollykryten: Anyone else confirm this? I'm keen to activate this just before my old plan expires

      • +2

On the product page, it says, "Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in the promotion, whichever is earlier, to get advertised inclusions." There is no other advertised inclusion (like bonus data), so you can probably activate after 30 days, although there should be an actual expiry date/duration.

Debatable if the 5000 bonus points is considered the "advertised inclusion" as they only know if you have bought it or not.

        • I got the 5000 2 days after purchase, didn’t activate the card yet. Hope this helps others.

    • 30 days

    • I purchased the 365 day 60GB pack for my parents on 07/12/2022. They finally activated it today (and keeping their existing number). Everything worked well. Expiry peroid is a year from now (28/01/2024) with the full 60GB data.

So while it does still work after 30 days, there is no guarantee it will continue to work in the future. So I wouldn't bet on it and still recommend people activate within 30 days after purchase.

  • Don't they normally offer 25% off for a recharge before expiry? Or has that changed?

    • -2

Also I was pretty sure they used to offer a one-time 10% off your shop to all Coles Mobile customers. Now looking at their website it seems they do six 10% off your shops (one per month) but only for month-to-month customers now. Unless I'm reading wrong.

    • I got 20% off last Nov since I hit my first year - as a reference

      • Recharged July last year, no offers at all.

        • +2

Anecdote, to get a recharge special offer you need to have auto recharge turned off and have receive marketing turned on in your account settings.

          • +1

@jmc787: Auto recharge is never on. Just checked marketing preference and it was off. It’s on now. Let’s see if I get an offer, which I don’t need now due to getting the discounted recharge.

            • +2

@Jono05: Marketing on was a requirement to receive offers, good luck :)

I'm out of the game for 2023 too with my discounted recharge voucher already purchased !

          • +1

@jmc787: Thanks jmc787, I was wondering why I never get the offer and finally got it once I turn it on a month before the recharge date.

  • +7

5000 points ~= $25 , so 60Gb sim card for $74 , better value than the 60Gb Amaysim card ($89) selling at Woolworths, but the Amaysim sim includes international calls to 28 countries instead of 15 and supports eSIM.

    • Cheaper, but not necessarily better value. Value is in the pocket of the beholder

      • +4

Both use the Optus network so not sure what you mean?

        • Exactly what he said.

"But the Amaysim sim includes international calls to 28 countries instead of 15 and supports eSIM." Also some people may not want the points and prefer more instant savings."

    • But I believe amaysim offers international calls for the more expensive 180GB plan only, not the 60GB plan.

  • +1

    Both plans get 5000 flybuys?

    • +1

Only the 60GB plan gets the bonus flybuys

  • +1

    worth switching from boost?

    • +1

same question as my Boost is expiring in 1 month

    • +1

Using Coles for about 6 months now without a problem - A lot of times I can see better signal for boost though

    • +1

I swapped from Boost to Optus last year.

The only real time I noticed a difference was the underground parking at my old work. Telstra had perfect reception, nil for Optus.

Other than that I haven't experienced any black spots or anything vs my wife's Boost reception but YMMV.

  • +14

    Wow I see what's going on here…

    365 days
    365 = 3x6x5 = 90 (90 is a multiple of 3)

    60GB (60 is a multiple of 3)
    $99 (99 is a multiple of 3)

    $169
    169 = 1x6x9 = 54 (54 is a multiple of 3)

    Half Life 3 Confirmed.

  • Shane no international wifi calling like Telstra :/

    • Wifi calling is amazing! The ability to call back home whenever you need to is just so handy.

      • So no need for a roaming service?

    • +3

Don’t worry about Shane — they’re too busy travelling the world to worry about calling people to tell them about it

    • I thought (hoped!) wifi calling worked from anywhere

      • Looks like only Telstra and Boost wifi calling work overseas.

      • According to Telstra, Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make and receive calls to devices in Australia at no additional charge.  Calls to all other countries will need to be made over the mobile network, and standard charges will apply.

      • Yeah works anywhere where you can get a wifi signal. I've tested it on a plane as well. Being able to make local calls is amazing!

        • So you can do it from overseas? Like can I be in the UK and use wifi calling to call Australia?

          • +1

@Cynicaloflife: I've read here before that Optus/Coles geoblocks wifi calling from all IP addresses outside Australia so what you need to do is have device A make a VPN connection to Australia and also act as a wifi hotspot to device B which has a Coles SIM in it, then wifi calling should work overseas. I have not tested this.

Alternative option is to pay for an International Roaming pass.

            • @jmc787: Exactly! Hence asking this question.

I know with boost I can do wifi calling from overseas. However Coles is much much cheaper

              • @Cynicaloflife: Telstra does not Geoblock wifi calling which is why it would work on Boost.

                • @jmc787: Does anyone know if wifi calling works overseas on Woolworths Mobile who are a Telstra MVNO?

          • @Cynicaloflife: Don't know about UK. VOWIFI on Coles mobile worked perfectly for me in NZ with one exception. I have a dual Sim phone. If I put a NZ Sim in the second slot it didn't work. What worked was using a second phone with the NZ Sim in set up with a wifi hotspot.

          • @Cynicaloflife: I'm talking about Boost btw. No idea about Optus.

        • I can vouch for this. I am on Boost prepaid so no roaming. I've been overseas and have been able to receive and call Oz local numbers. Basically, it connects you to a local port in Australia via Wifi, allowing you to use local calls as you were in Australia.

  • I remember someone mentioned that unlike normal GCs, Coles SIM cards are qualified for the weekly spend x get x points offer. Is this still true?

    • +1

Can't speak from personal experience but I believe that is correct. I also just read the T&C's of my current Spend X Get X Points flybuys offer and Coles Mobile products are not listed among the exclusions.

    • +2

      It does.

    • +1

Yep bought mine last week with a bonus Flybuys points offer and was credited the bonus points.

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • +1

So the 20% off recharge … this doesn't works with the $99 SIM right? It's only for an existing customer? … And you don't get the 5000 FlyBuys. Seems like a worse deal.

    • The recharge voucher works out at $8/month, if thats too much for someone to pay for their mobile phone service not sure where you go from there.

      • Ah, didn't mean to say this is not a good deal overall. Just confirming that it would be better to port out and then in to get the 5000 Flybuys, instead of continuing as existing customer with the 20% off recharge.

        • +1

It's a better deal if you could be bothered with the hassle of doing it and also wear the risk of
          1. having one of the two ports that are completely outside your control stuff up leaving you cut off for x hours/days/weeks
          2. providing your personal information to yet another 3rd party who may lose it, expose it, have it stolen

Thats a firm no from me.

  • -2

    Optus network is crap

    • +4

I get better reception at my place than Telstra so I guess it depends on your location.

  • Online and in store?

    • The advert (above link) reads that the purchase can only be in store and your FB card (physical and digital?) must be presented.

You can purchase the plan on Coles Mobile's site online, but you'd risk not have the FB points attributed to your account.

  • Anyone know we can use flybuys dollars to pay and colesmyer giftcards?

    • +1

I paid with a gift card.

    • I paid for my $120/$96 recharge voucher with Flybuys dollars, no problem.

  • I can't find the 200gb offer for $169. Can someone please post the link?

    • -2

It has been posted. What more do you need?

      • +1

I see it in the title but not in the image offer or anywhere with the details.

    • +1

There's no reference to it on their website either

    • +1

Wait for the catalogue to be published.

  • Beware no international roaming with Coles

    • They have international roaming as a data pack add on though.

    • +2

Coles does have international roaming. I have used it to receive SMS For 2FA without roaming pack and it worked fine.

    • Do I have to switch on roaming before travelling overseas?
International roaming is turned on for all Coles Mobile services, so there's no set-up required.

      https://colesmobile.com.au/home/page/switch-on-roaming

  • +1

Unable to receive sms overseas in this day and age is rubbish…

  • +3

It would be great if these sort of deals had the network provider in the title.

    • It's Coles.
They provide you network access as an MVNO

      • Doesn't answer the question. What towers are they using Telstra/ Optus or Vodaphone. Despite how many MVNO there are they are all only using one of three options.

        • Doesn't answer the question.

Yes it does, Coles is the provider.

What towers are they using Telstra/ Optus or Vodaphone.

So you want to know what the carrier is, not provider.

  • Does anyone know if I can use this to receive SMS for free WITHOUT a international roaming plan when I'm overseas?

I need to be able to receive sms for my 2FA but can use an ESIM when overseas for data and internet calls home.

    • +1

Yes,If nothing has changed lately it will work. It worked for me last year.

      • Thank you for the answer

    • Do I have to switch on roaming before travelling overseas?
International roaming is turned on for all Coles Mobile services, so there's no set-up required.

      https://colesmobile.com.au/home/page/switch-on-roaming

    • I was about to asked the same thing.

    • worked for me in the past 6 months too

  • Are you able to purchase this with coles gift card please? Thank you

    • Yes. I paid with a gift card.

      • -1

Thank you, I have now done the same

  • If I buy 4 60GB starter kits, will that be 20,000 points or will it be capped at one 5000 point bonus per Flybuys account?

    • +1

      Doesn't say that it's capped.

  • Anyone port from Optus to Optus have any issue? I'm thinking of moving from Catch just wondering if there's any delay in porting number as I've had some issues in the past when they use same carrier
