    • Could be in how they are controlling the audio - IR vs HDMI-CEC

      • Both are same config. Both turn on TV's and Soundbars, well 99% of the time.

    • I think it depends on which Port you are using, some TVs only have some ports where HDMI ARC / eARC are enabled or some need to be manually activated for use from the settings.

    Thanks heaps bought 3

  • Good price, I have a fire stick but can't bloody cast my pixel to it.
But it's not worth replacing for that feature alone.

    • Each to their own, but I reckon it is. Especially at $65.

    • Try the aircast app in the firestick.

  • +1

Got the fire stick lite for $20….decent intrnal memory and fluid os…. Was able to cast video from s20 without any fuss….. If ur ok with not having google assist then it's a great alternative

    • +1

I think that's not casting though. It's like mirroring only cause google blocks amazon from using the tech

  • Great post. Thanks

The Firestick 4K Max is better IMO. GTV’s remote is garbage and the UI is full of unnecessary shit. At least with the Firestick, you can change the launcher. Not sure if this can be done with GTV? I know you can change it to apps only mode. Anyway, I’ve owned both and the Firestick won 🤷

  • What would people recommend between this or the xiaomi 4k stick, in terms of features (dolby etc and does that AV1 thing matter?), speed/performance and hardware? I realise that google's own stuff will always have the advantage of newer firmware since it looks like the xiaomi is still on A11, but have also read that the A12 update has made things sluggish?

  • How does it go with Plex 4K streams?

  • Had $10 of promo credit to use, so this is good timing!

I have a Sony OLED with Google TV. For some reason, I can’t download Disney + on it. Will buying this 4K Chromecast have any difference?

    • 100%. No probs with Disney+ on this.

Just price matched at Officeworks for $61.75, thanks for sharing OP! Great price.

  • Very keen to make the switch over to Google TV with this however wasn't sure about the trade-off re: wi-fi and ethernet, is there a way to have the Chromecast 4K hard wired to ethernet?

  • +1

Bought one last month, really awesome device! It has Bluetooth to connect soundbars or earphones/headphones which I love. As others have said, the consolidation of movie/tv show recommendations from multiple streaming services is handy. Plus having the microphone in the remote to do basically anything makes things a lot easier and quicker

    • +1

Wow, I didn't realise it does Bluetooth. Win! Gonna try that tonight

  • Couldn't get JB to price match with the $10 off bonus. Ah well.

    Out of stock :(

    • +2

      In stock again for me?

      • +1

        Yes back in stock.

      • Yeah I managed to grab it a couple of hours back. Thanks ledge!

  • I have been using my Xbox One as my media player for the last 4 years or so. Any reason this would be better? Has all the apps I use and seems to do the trick. Only thing that seems like it would be a benefit is being able to browse/search all the streaming services at once. Am I missing any huge benefit?

    • It would use way less power than your Xbox, but if you're not bothered by that, stay with it.

  • Thanks!

  • Damn, bought before Christmas at I think $75-80 and thought that was a cracker deal

  • Was waiting for good deal on this. Thanks

  • Anyone compared this to the built in Android TV experience on Sony TVs? I have a tv a few years old now- probably 4+ and the Android TV is mostly ok, but having a snappy interface would be nice. If it was snappier!

    • +1

I have a Sony TV. It was fine until I got one of these for my Samsung TV. Now my Sony TV has one too.

  • I’ve started having issues with mine - is over a year old - starts losing intermittent signal.

  • My housemates have a really shit Ffalcon TV, it has an in built netflix and stan app but they often have errors and are a pain in the ass to use. Would a chromecast circumvent this issue? It does have a few HDMI ports.

    • +1

Yes but if it's not a 4k telly you can also just buy a Chromecast dongle for a lot less and then cast your apps via phone.

    • +2

100% this will fix it up. You can choose the HD version for $59 if you don't need the 4k.

      • +1

For $6 diff right now, might as well go for the 4K. You might never know…

  • I have an LG C1. Would this be a good solution to be able to cast my Android phone to my TV?

  • Is it possible to install Surfshark on this, for multi region Netflix etc?

    • I haven’t tried myself, but I believe it is

  • Thanks op. Bought 1 to replace my 6 year old Vodafone box.

  • is there much use of these if I have a smart TV (that I can airplay and cast to)

  • Btw it's $73 now so can't apply the $10 discount by itself.

  • +3

Wow, they dropped it to 73 so you can't use the promo on it, what absolute dogs

    • +1

      Yep. No deal

    • Yep, looks like it's all over. Will mark as expired

  • Disappointing, I left my chromecast in a hotel TV in Fiji and was going to order this tonight to replace it

  • Can this turned on remotely via mobile phone and changed to a channel for elderly people?

    • Hmmm, you can certainly turn a tv on through the connected google assistant so long as the tv supports it with hdmi-cec "turn on x tv" and general stuff like "watch stranger things on netflix on grandmas tv" but actual channels through the antenna… not sure about that. Maybe iview? and other channel apps. I don't think theres an actual user interface to directly control the television though, other than "cast to x tv" but ithink that requires you to be on the local network, maybe it can work from outside too.

    • Not FTA TV on a tuner.

  • +1

The HD version is now on Sale @ $48

  • -1

Man theres always a reason behind these sales. Just realised today that they are just about to be superceded. News of a new one impending release:
