    Holly crap that price 😳

    • Cheaper than the high-end Garmin watches.

      • But worse than a garmin.

        • How so? Besides the battery life

        • +1

Are you kidding? Even my 5-year-old Apple Watch 3 is better than a high-end Garmin.

          • -2

            @ForkSnorter: In what way?
Does it have tri band GPS?
Can it be seen in daylight?
Can you use it for a week with no charging?
            Does it have solar charging?
Can you track an activity using GPS and listening to music for multiple 8hr days without charging?
Jump off a waterfall or go snorkeling?

If by better you mean better at impressing your Apple obsessed group of friends or your boss or whatever then I guess so.

            • +3

              @blade1981:

              In what way?

I can answer messages/emails simply by speaking into my wrist. In multiple languages, with pretty much 100% accuracy.

Does it have tri band GPS?

              I doubt it.

Can it be seen in daylight?

              Yes.

Can you use it for a week with no charging?

3 days battery life it I put it in low power mode over night.

              Does it have solar charging?

              No

Can you track an activity using GPS and listening to music for multiple 8hr days without charging?

Yes, activity tracking is excellent, my bike maps are always 100% accurate. Heart rate is accurate (checked it). Step counter is accurate (checked it). Can't say the same for many other watches on the market, according to scientific reviews on YouTube.

Not sure about music. You can add mp3s to it, then connect to bluetooth earphones. Can also control music apps that are playing on iPhone. I'm not a fan of earphones/headphones, so don't use the music functions, although I occasionally use it to skip to the next track or adjust volume when music is playing on my smart speakers.

Jump off a waterfall or go snorkeling?

Waterfall, yes. Snorkeling, no idea. I've taken it in the pool swimming laps.

If by better you mean better at impressing your Apple obsessed group of friends or your boss or whatever then I guess so.

No, I just love the watch because it does everything I need. Notifications, fitness tracking, maps, directions, calculator, timers, stopwatch, weather, accurate time (down to the second), function to find my iPhone and other devices. Haven't yet needed to upgrade to the latest Apple Watches.

              • -2

@ForkSnorter: OK so it's not "better", you just like it because it's pretty and you can talk to it. It is a different watch. My 4wd is better than old mates sports coupe because it can do everything I want it to do better, but he would say the opposite. I already have a phone I can answer messages and emails on easily, I don't need another device I need to charge nightly or every second night so I use my Garmin. I go away for a week and don't need to pack a charge cable, go camping for a few nights, walking all through the day or whatever and don't need a charger. It works for me. YMMV.

  • +1

    Great watch.

  • Not that much of a saving at $50. Could do better if you got discounted GC

    • +5

Not much of a valid neg.

      • +8

        I think it’s valid. $50 off $1299 isn’t a bargain.

        • +4

This is an opinion and we're after facts - is there a cheaper option?

          • +6

@pizzaguy: Historically, it was 15% off from W1 as part of eBay AU / ZIP promotion (last year).

You are better off purchasing from Apple using discounted Apple GCs.

          • +5

@pizzaguy: No mate, we aren't after facts.

            We are after a bargain.

        • +2

It is if it's the cheapest price currently available.

          • +3

@Trishool: Imagine if people posted everything that had any small insignificant discount on any random product.

            • +1

@PainToad: Mate people post deals here that are only a few dollars down from the previous deal. This is still $50 off (roughly 4%) an already over priced apple device. If you disagree, click away.

              • +3

                @Trishool:

                If you disagree, click away.

So arrogant. You could have just ignored drsunnyv and mine opinions and “clicked away”. But guess your opinion is worthy of commenting but not ours?

                • +1

@PainToad: I don't find you comment valid because your don't provide evidence of any other deal that's cheaper, rather you chose to write it off saying $50 off is not a deal. Either validate your comment or stop commenting pointlessly. Feel free to call this arrogance, however that's how I see your stance, calling out something as not a deal but providing no evidence of a better deal. Do better.

              • +1

@Trishool: @Trishool That's because if you give a negative vote for the deals that aren't actually deals, people incessantly neg your comment…the only way to improve the site is for the community to negatively vote on posts that aren't actually deals…not just ignore it as otherwise, the page is filled with useless junk…

                • @drsunnyv: Yeah see my comment here, this also applies to you: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13207801/redir

                  • +3

@Trishool: @Trishool I did mate…discounted Gift Cards. Go to the list of discounted gift card page that every true Ozbargainer should know (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards) and buy any JB Hi-Fi gift card that you have access to that gives you 5% off and it will be a better deal than this one posted. Or as someone below suggested, getting Apple GC from Coles.

                    • @drsunnyv: It depends on your credit cards. My platinum one gives me an extra year of warranty.

                • +4

                  @drsunnyv:

the only way to improve the site is for the community to negatively vote on posts that aren't actually deals

100% agree. Negs on comments revoking negative votes is the worse thing to happen to this place. If you get too many revokes, you also get banned from being able to vote a negative for a few weeks.

If a vote is invalid, it should be reported and the mods remove it. It shouldn’t be a popularity contest who’s vote is valid and who’s isn’t.

This entire website’s content comes from users contributing for free, so I get the owner wanting to not scare people off from fuelling the gravy train.

But on the flip site, if an endless stream of “meh” posts continue to flood the site, eventually people will stop looking.

It’s a balancing act. That’s not correctly balanced atm imo.

            • +2

@PainToad: Yes we want quality discounts not mere 1% discounts.

    • I'm sorry but time after time, I'm negged for pointing out that a deal posted is not a real/great bargain! Isn't that the point of this website?

      • +1

Sounds like there is considerable consensus that your criticism is invalid.

        • +1

Or… a lot of annoying neggers here atm

      • -2

Make your comments, don't neg the post.

That's all there is to it.

The neg on the post is creating a hostile tone, just reserve it for spam and fake "deals" (jacked up price etc), continue with helpful comments. Watch your downvotes turn to upvotes.

    • +1

I agree. This is not much a deal. $1249 is regular price from officework.

  • watched someone on youtube try to break one of these the other day. quite unbelievable he couldnt break the glass but was able to make the screen gltichy/not work

  • Officeworks Price Match?

    • Nice idea but different band. The yellow dive band is also 1249 but OW doesn't carry that either.

    • Apologies but can somebody please fill me in on this Officeworks price match situation?

Is it literally just matching to get it locally/now and no online delivery delay or is it a ‘we beat it by 10%’/Bunnings type thing they do?

Officeworks and JB HiFi are mentioned a fair bit in comments and I’ve really only started using OzBargain a lot this Xmas so I’m out of the loop here. Are they just both retailers often willing to price match compared to other larger retailers? 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • +15

Let's save a massive $1249 by not buying it :)

  • Plus $5 post

  • +1

Coming from a series 3 - I was tossing up between this and the stainless steel series 8.

Common sense kicked in and I ended up getting the aluminium version for 679 (used Woolworths 20x rewards points for Apple gc of course!) and bought a tempered glass case. Feels like I’m missing nothing. You can optimise battery life via YouTube and it easily lasts me 2 days.

    • +1

If you are into adventure/sports then get ultra, otherwise, it is not worth it for normal people.
I use it for scuba diving with my Garmin mk2i and I love the ultra so much. I wish Apple released it a few years ago then I can bring it to Everest Base Camp instead of my series 4 which kept running out of juice lol

      • +1

That’s very true. My days are spent behind the desk and at most hiking through national parks. I guess my case was just overkill for anything more than the aluminium version.

I was mostly leaning towards the stainless steel because of the casing lasting longer and the screen being stronger, but like I said, a tempered glass case solves both those issues for a fraction of the cost

        • Tbh. I used to have stainless steel and aluminum and the screens are the same anyway. But the screen on my ultra is way better, the same as my Garmin Fenix 6x

          • @0PriceJack0: Oh yeah the PPI and screen tech are identicle between stainless steel and aluminium on series 8, but the protective glass layer is different - it’s more resistance on the stainless steel to scratches and blemishes.

The ultra has a different screen tech - higher PPI and gets brighter, so I’d hope it looks better on the ultra 😂

            • @SlifSlif: But I still had a lot of scratches on my stainless steel from wearing hoodies and I don't know why lol.

              • @0PriceJack0: On the case or the glass??

                • @SlifSlif: Both. Hard to see on the glass unless I tilt it or under sunlight. But when you see it you can’t unsee it

    • By any chance would you have a specific YouTube link which you followed? I have a series 7 which I can just get 2 days out of, I wouldn't say 'easily' 2 days though…

      • Yeah man, of course.

Your mileage will definitely vary, but this is what I used (note I did everything it suggested and it’s a long asf video)

Better to get Apple GCs from Coles this week and buy direct from Apple.

    • +3

Was going to say this as well. I did this when they had the woolies promo and saved about 10%.

    • +1

Woolworths TCN GC, equivalent of 10% off: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/749098
Then buy directly from JB or get Apple GCs from JB.

      • +2

"or get Apple GCs from JB."

You can get 10% off Apple giftcards in points. No need to do the run around with multiple $100 TCN GC and convert them to Apple GC.
Just grab one or two variable load Apple giftcard during 20x points promo (50,000 points max limit for Flybuys).

  • +2

Got it from Jb hifi for $1190, dude over the phone price matched for Costco!! Reach out if need direct contact for my mate!!

  • +3

Very pleased with my Apple Watch Ultra. Screen is fantastic and the battery life outstanding, easily get 2-3 days of solid use. Mine is setup with Telstra One Number too, so occasionally on 4G.

  • Avoid this dodgy company…
PM at other retailer and stack with discounted GC for better saving!

    • Don't let apple hear you call them dodgy

      • +1

i think he is talking about Centre Com

  • Whoah.. and here's me trying to grab a fold 4 for sub 1500

    • Easy. Go to government store on samsung

  • -2

lol, it's their "ultra" one and it doesn't have even a camera, while the DZ09 I got for literally $8 five years ago at least managed VGA quality shots.

For that price I'd honestly expect it to be like that Samsung Dex thing, and be able to hook the watch up to a dock at home and do genuine computing. Ridiculous.

Well, ridiculous as a tech product. As a fashion item, idk, people do spend a lot on watches. I'm conflicted now. It's a cuntload to spend either way, but like, relative to any other fancy watch? idk. @WatchNerd, chime in

    • I use it for scuba diving with my mk2i. I can say its worth every penny

      • You can scuba with a $150 gshock. Is that worth every penny?

        • +1

if you wanna die then go for $150 gshock. My life is worth more than that

  • Ok, so a top deal for tesla that's worth 80k+ and now a apple watch deal worth 1k+…..😢

    • Price is relative to the quality of the product.

$800k home can be a deal of the home is worth 1mil. It's not just the price.

      • Agree……but 1k for a watch that will be useless after 5 years due to SW updates?

        • l agree with you. Smart watches quickly become obsolete.

        • +1

"but 1k for a watch that will be useless after 5 years"

I also agree with you smart watches seem to be more on the disposable side, but the watch doesn't just suddenly stop working after SW update support ends right.
It can continue to work as a smart watch, it just won't get any new SW features/bug fixes etc.

        • that's like 50c a day

  • I bet there will be another deal at $1150 in 2 weeks

    • Could you please elaborate on this for me? What deal are you expecting to see?

I’m keen to get one soon and was going to buy one by buying Apple gift cards from Coles whilst the 20x FlyBuys multiplier deal is on - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/748819

  • +2

I am not really the target market for this watch. But if you want to get the cheapest possible deal I would wait until they show up on Apple AU official refurbished store.

Be ready though they sell very quick. Need to have 10% off Apple GC already purchased and ready to buy.
In my experience watching iPad Pro 12.9 models etc they sell out within days or less than a week.

  • +1

Currently out of stock but if you are a Costco member keep an eye out online or look in store. It is, normally, $1199.99
