Previous Amazon price of late was $305 (which I believe is price matching Officeworks). All time low on Amazon a few months back was $249. I bought one today with a price beat at my local Officeworks - came down to $258.

It's a shame the previous post lost the comments, sounds like they could have been very useful.

I got this in the last deal. Great printer!

  • +11

$167 for full set of toners at Inkstation if anyone is interested.

    • +5

Genuine toner? I had a brother laser and noticed that non genuine toner from Inkstation caused toner flakes to leak.

      • +1

I've had this issue too, was there anyway to resolve?

      • +2

No, that's the price for the non-genuine toners. I own this printer and have purchased these exact toners from Inkstation and they are a mess. They quickly failed and began spattering blue toner over every sheet, and we have had to go through the fuss of returning the entire set (and the backup set we bought) so we can seek genuine ones. That's the last time we waste our time on non-genuine toners.

    • +1

I’ve run several of the Inkstation toners through mine, work perfectly. Very happy with the printer too.

    • +1

How many pages does one toner last for?

      • +1

        Depends on page coverage.
        Eventually the drum wears too.

    • +4

$52 at Aussie Toner and cheaper with a voucher from their eBay store. We’ve bought from them for years (since we had a black and white Brother laser) and have been very happy with the quality.

      • +1

How many toners does this colour laser printer take? 1 or 4?

        • Four of course.

        • CMYK, so 4 colours. Cyan (Blue), Magenta (Red), Yellow & Black

        • +3

          Click. The. Link.

          • @akerr: Was confirming, coz I have a mono laser at mums house and use only 1 so wasn’t sure how many required for a colour printer but for $52 for 4 toners is a good deal

      • +1

Aussie Toner is also my main favourite eBay seller and have been shopping with for years.

  • +3

2023 the year of laser printers? lol

    • +2

Year of the rabbit , actually !

      • when is year of the kangaroo?

  • +4

Price is all right. I have multifunction mono laser printer at this moment. Temp to buy But it is single function printer only. normally I use scanner function 50/50. If I have this one ,I need to add another scanner in my tiny space.

    • I need scanner as well, let me know which one is good to buy include scanner?

      • I agree looking for a scanner as well - the brother printers with scanners are a slittle too big

        • +1

Double sided scanner, just over $500 at CPL and UMart

          • @Nom: Thanks, but this is too big for my space, need it a little thinner

            • +1

@jaygee: Then you need an inkjet model - MFC laser printers are always massive.

            • @jaygee: I recently purchased the brother MFC-J4340DW for $351 from Good Guys Commercial. It’s inkjet, but uses the Brother INKvestment (inktank) so way cheaper then regular inkjet. The footprint of this printer is small.
It has duplex printing and 99% sure it has duplex scanning.

Epson do an Ecotank printer too. The ink is about 1/3rd the price of the Brother, but the duplex capable model was about $150 more. We just don’t print enough to justify the extra cost!

          • @Nom: Thanks Nom, I've been looking at upgrading my Brother mono MFC to something that prints colour.

            • +1

@bonezAU: No problem Ser ! Everyone deserves some colour in their prints 🤗

      • Adobe scan app on phone

Double sided scanner, just over $500 at CPL and UMart

      • I think we need to spend $200+ more, but it look good

        • Yeah I'm sure there's a better bargain out there. Or you can build one.

      • Way too expensive. Probably you can do a DIY for a lot lesser price.

        • +1

Yeah I didn't look for a reasonable price, just concept photos. Definitely cheaper options out there.

  • Any tips for A3 colour laser printers?

    • +7

      Yep.
It will be big and heavy!

      • +7

        And expensive!

        • +4

And you don't want your kids to print on it.

          • +2

@Ozsaver88: Yeah but being a laser, even if you don't HAVE kids yet, your kids will be able to print on it.

  • Brother MFC-L2730DW Mono Laser Printer: price now $222 is it good price and printer?

    • That model is lacking duplex scanning, would be a PITA to use. Other than that, should be a solid machine. I'm hoping for another deal for the MFC-L2750W that I don't miss.

  • Doesn't the ink refills cost like $500

    • +1

No, because these don’t use ink. Toner is $50 for a full set.

  • Are there any printers on sale that do double sided scanning as well?

  • +1

OT but might be useful to someone.
I have a Brother mono laser HL-L5200DW and it had a genuine toner cart and drum. The toner seemed to be damp and was all over the place. The drum was damaged. PQ was very bad. Genuine toner cart and drum was about $360. Inkstation compatibles totaled $58 incl. delivery and they work great.

  • Would this printer be a good choice for a laser that prints photos?

    • +3

If you want to print photos then buy an Inkjet - this is one thing lasers aren't as good at.

    • +2

Lasers have a compromised colour rendition but you get what you pay for.
Ask a HP specialist as why they still sell ink.

    • No.

I got this recently, tested it, and photographic images looked awful. I did test print some comic book images and they looked great.

  • Had one of these and generally worked well but after about 3 years it started to put marks on every page which pretty well made it unusable. It needed a new drum, but that was a too expensive repair to be feasible, so out it went. Pity.

    • +3

This isn't a "repair" - the drums are consumable, you expect to replace it eventually.
      But they'll usually last a looooong time…

      • They used to, then the "discount" models came with "starter" kits that are like 20% capacity, in the inkjet world. Assume the laser world went the same.

        • +1

I think you're thinking of ink and toner…

The drum is only found in laser printers - it wears out eventually, and must be replaced.

  • Does it come with a set of toners in the box

    • +1

      Yes.

      • +2

        Is it usually half full?

        • +1

          Only if you’re optimistic

  • +1

Good buy. 5% price beat at OW, combined with the recent 15% off Ultimate Gift Cards = $219

  • +2

I have good experience with Brother printers, very easy to reset and refill. Aliexpress has some powders in foil sachets which are super cheap.

  • Ordered 1/1/2023 - arrived to Gold Coast yesterday afternoon (4/1/2023) - was not expecting it for another week.

Its larger than I expected from the photo - but understandable given the 4 toners.
    Shipped with latest firmware (v1.37)

    • Did you find a way to disable firmware updates?

      • I dont think the printer does automatic firmware updates. I was going to manually update it to latest (July 2022) but it already had it.

        • Dont update the firmware, it may disable non-genuine toners. I got a Brother 3745 and it disabled my all my toners from Aussie Toner after an accidental upgrade.

  • How awful is the software on this printer? Sick of cheap printers being absolute pains in the ass to do anything with because the drivers and software are awful.

    • +1

It was a pain to connect to my WiFi using the printer menu/LCD screen - but I was able to add the printer via its IP address in Windows 11 without needing to use any special drivers/software.
Ive only done a few test prints, but seems fine.

Thanks @theredrabitt I purchased at Officeworks Elizabeth SA with the 5% price match guarantee no problem. Not much stock in SA stores though.
