With these inkjet type of printers, does the ink go bad if you don't use it much?
The ink doesn't but the ink jet head definitely clogs. That's why I switched to a laser printer as a low volume user. Those never clog and I don't have to maintain it
I run a refillable inkjet print. Don't print much, but because of the number of inkjet printers I've had to chuck because the ink dried in the printhead, with this one, because it cost more, I do an all colour test print page regularly. With the lower cost of ink for refillables I can afford to.
How often do you have to do the full colour test print page? Also, what is a test print page? Is that a software thing, or part of the printer's utilities?
What brand/model printer do you have if you don't mind me asking?
I'm not sure if I should get an inkjet or laser. I've been meaning to buy a printer the past few years, but never have to time to do proper research, and because I wouldn't use it much, I never know what to get. I'd prefer a inkjet due to the colour as I'd assume a colour laser printer would be a lot more expensive?
Ink is the other thing I'm not sure about how easy it is to refill these refillable ones?
I assume with laser, you have to find a model that has cheap toner (is that what it's called? toner?)
Will you print glossy photos ?
If so, you need an Inkjet - you can't print proper photos on a Laser printer.
Could you use home assistant or even a windows scheduled task to once a week send out a colour test print page test to keep it alive.
Guys I own an Inkvestment machine…definitely not an investment. The colored ink dried up even though I was most printing in black and white. Why though?
Isn’t that just the limitation of ink based?
I remember eating my own hype when I used to sell hp eco printers in retail basically 10+ years ago, the potential advertised yields were crazy. Basically the coloured ink dried up and somehow clogged the print head.
See: https://help.brother-usa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/156592/…
"Because the system is completely closed, there are no concerns about the ink drying up. As long as the machine remains connected to a power source, it is able to regulate the humidity and keep the ink fresh and ready to use."
Hence my dissatisfaction. The ink did dry up.
The coloured ink nozzles dried up because I was mostly printing in black and white.
FTFY
I've got one of these & had it replaced once UW the other thing is Im sure the ink evaporates in the tanks so they don't last as long as you may think .
That's my experience too.
Running costs can be crazy with inkjet printers. I have been using a refillable ink printer which I would recommend
Meh since it's inkjet
I use HP instant ink subscription. Probably less value now that I'm way past the initial freebie period. But definitely worth considering if you have a lot of full colour A4 photos to print. I even printed my own wrapping paper and coloured paper.
Refillable LC436 cartridges with chip are available.
Brother used to be my favourite printer brand. But since I bought a Brother printer that says on the box that it works with Windows 7, 8 10 and 11, and it doesn't work on any of my Windows 10 and 11 PCs, only an old Windows 7 one, and Brother support was totally unhelpful, I've gone right off them.
Really? I have an ancient printer i got just when windows 7 came out, black and white laser with duplex print. It has bounced around with me moving houses all the time for 14? years and never missed a beat. Still works with Windows 10 and will find out in windows 11 once i upgrade.
Oh, is this like a high yield investment car but in the form of a printer?
