    • if you can get your local OW to price beat, the price comes down to 455.05. I think that's the price my friend got. so it is really tempting

      • Yup, that's the price I paid. Managed to do this before it was marked Sold Out in Centre Com Adelaide.

Can you use after market ink with this?

    • i own a brother mfc 9330cdw since aeons ago and i've used after market toners and up until recently stock drums. but lately I went with after market drums as well… i ma praying that my 9330 will break in a day or so, so I could go and buy this one!

      • I have the same one but it recently stuck a bunch of paper to the drum. Opened it up and got the paper off but it's not printing the same. Have been looking for a replacement since.

    • It's touch and go, I have the 3770cdw and have gone back to oem $$$$$$ grrrr. Sometimes the aftermarkets are intermittent and its annoying af

      • I have the same printer. Firmware updates can break aftermarket chips, so I just stopped updating it (it's a printer, who cares) and now it seems fine.

We have many Brother printers at work (we have 3x MFC-L8390CDW too) and I use aftermarket carts in all of them and they're fine (no updates!)

        • I have firmware updates turned off, I believe reading that it was the batteries in aftermarket don't last long and that makes the toner useless.

I bought batteries and replaced them but it was hit and miss… So just bought oem

  • Will OW price beat for me in WA even though centrecom don’t have stores in WA? They won’t ship this item online to Perth either :(

    • +1

they wont ship to "regional" qld either - and we are just 4hrs north of Brisbane. Hate companies like that

I tried OW at Cannington the last time and it was free delivery back (although they don't offer delivery to WA). Employee didn't click through and I bought one end of Nov.

Just wanted to say, Brother lasers are the real deal. Had mine for 5 years. Replaced toner once. No issues what so ever. Absolutely worth the price over any inkjet as toner never runs dry. Probably would have replaced cartridge 5-10 times if I had an inkjet because of drying out

    • +1

Laser for documents and Canon Selphy for photos is where I've ended up after battling with dried out inkjet heads for years.

      • I opted for laser for documents and commercial printing for photos (6x4" prints with Fuji inks & paper at $0.15 each is easy to find, and hard to beat with any home solution…)

To add some strictly on-topic remarks, I have exactly this printer and I like it, and this is a sharp price. Can't be bothered trying 3rd party toner for the volumes we do.

One of the review is "Colour print not as vibrant as expected" !
Can brother printer have toner from ebay as genuine Brother TN258 Toner is $528 and that too not XL.

    • +1

they might have been expecting inkjet vibrancy

laser colour will do the job powerpoint etc, but one shouldn't expect great photo printouts

  • Cheap

  • Came with “starter toner cartridges” 😢

I bought this printer a year ago for $500, best printer I've ever had, and makes me wish I'd gone to laser sooner.

  • If I was interested in buying this printer, I would look at cost of toner catridge replacements.
The cheapest I found for this printer were over $70.
I went through this excercise recently looking at laser printers and how much to replace the toner catridges.
I use my printer intermittently and have always had a inkjet but wanted to try a laster printer

  • Checks out Coupon Code

  • Good price. I have what looks like an earlier iteration, the MFC-L3770CDW, and paid a bit more for it back in 2022. Going well, takes a long time to get through the toner and aftermarket toner is cheap and works without issues.

The L8390CDW seems to be mostly an improvement in performance whilst being lighter and slightly smaller. But they've removed the keypad and the screen is slightly smaller, cost cutting you could argue.

Can recommend this, and this is a great price for it. We paid 650 for ours a few months ago and it's been really good. Really love how quickly it does scanning and network transfers, and the programmable shortcuts are intuitive and easy for my non-tech inclined partner to use.

The touch screen is quick and responsive, and the layout makes sense for the most part.

Printing is fast but it spends a bit of time "ramping up" the first page. Maybe that's all consumer colour lasers?

Overall I'm very pleased with it so far
