Breville The Quick Wok BEW300BLK $79.20 Delivered @ Target

510

$129 everywhere else, Targets website marks it at $99 normal, discounted to $79.20.
Good ol' standard hardy wok.

We have induction that the Mrs uses for mostly Indian vegetarian cooking. I, on the other hand have my "plug n play" airfryers, rice cooker, kogan thermo whatever!, grill, sandwich press, and Wok!
I've only recently started using an electric wok moving into a place with no gas. yes, it heats up quickly and can maintain high temperatures with a turn of the dial for a quick burn, then add in the gravy and simmer for however long. works perfectly.
I think I'm sold on electric woks irrespective of gas availability.

Save your money and get a carbon steel wok

What if you are after an electric wok for whatever reason?

        • +14

I didn't neg you but what I'm trying to say is that not everyone has easy access to steady gas or stove for cooking for various reasons which I won't get into as it's obvious.

@Lucille Bluth: Totally get it. Im just being a knob lol. I just know the performance of these electric woks results in some pretty underwhelming stir frys since the heat fluctuates so much

      What if you don't have a cooker/hob?

        Build a fire

Most americans keep a pull out (camping style here in oz) gas stove under a bench nowadays and run an electric cooktop otherwise.

@thelegbonesconnected: This is what I am planning to some degree, induction in the kitchen and in the outdoor kitchen a hob running off a gas bottle. On those rare occasions where I need to use a wok I will be sorted. For the rest of the time can't fault induction. Also bottle gas is way cheaper, and if there's some interruption to the supply I will always have a few months supply

      • Small camp stove does the job

        • Maybe not the smallest ones as they won't be hot enough for woks

      • interesting remark …. i visited an open for inspection for a small apartment beachside ….i asked “where is the kitchen” it was behind a sliding door, a sink and a microwave and a fridge, not enough room for a cooktop …..

    • I agree with the caveat that they need a stove of some sort to start with.
Too many points of failure, non stick, electrics etc

    • +1

You need big flame too. Might as well just go to a restaurant since you'll never achieve wok hei without the right set up

Looks like Amazon is selling it for the same price too.

Good movie that one, $80 a bit much though

Have had one for a very long time. Works great for an electric. We mainly use it for hot pot

    • I use my $14 Kmart rice cooker for hotpot haha

      • Hahahah who needs temperature control

    • A wok for hotpot?

  • Can this produce wok hei?

    • +2

      of course not….

    • Need gas for that.

  • +2

    This is a great wok.

    • yes, use a portable gas torch , lots of you tube videos for people who cook in woks but don’t have enough BTUs from their cook tops.

    Teflon coating, no thanks.

  • +2

Get a matching diameter steam tray, and you can turn this into perfect steamer.

  • No wok hay, no deal

    • -2

wok hay is easy ….they sell hay at pet shops.

      • Haha results may vary

    No…….. uncle roger says no…..

I saw an ABC doco a few weeks back on Poh and her upbringing in Malaysia and life in Adelaide.

And guess what? Both her and her mum sometimes use an electric non stick wok for convenience.

And the size of this one seems perfect for a couple or small family. Reviews say it gets to a the high temp needed for stir frys very quickly.

    • But no wok hei

  • +1

Can i take it to poland?

  • +2

Thanks OP. We had this for years, way longer than we should have given how many scratches it accumulated on the non stick surface. Pulled the trigger again.

  • Can anyone recommend alternatives without teflon? I really need a new wok.. Thanks in advance.
