Beats by Dr Dre Studio (Black, White or Red) for $199 (inc. AU delivery)

74

Should come with a warning because these deal sites do have a habit of disappointing. Everything else aside this is one of the better prices I have seen for these headphones.

  • Was just researching these last week - this may come in handy for when you receive them since there's so many out there unfortunately. FWIW, they look legit from the pics

    Do research before buying headphones.

Beats are like monster cables, relies on PR and marketing

    • +21

but these are backed by a doctor…

      • +2

        Dr degree in marketing.

    • +2

People are missing the point with these headphones. You dont LISTEN with them, your wear them above your ear or around your next preferrably without a cable plugged in for the extra cool look.

All I know is when I see a guy with unplugged Beats headphones, parted hair, skinny jeans around below his buttocks I am very impressed and in awe of his style.

      • -1

Nothing more pathetic than someone who has to rag on others choice of style to cover up their own insecurities.

        • I thought mocking hipsters was "in"?

  • Do people actually buy these things?

    • +3

Yes, people who fall for marketing propaganda.

    • +2

People also buy diamonds on a regular basis, so yes, unfortunately.

    • +2

The same people that used to buy Ed Hardy tee shirts.

I got a pair of beats solo when I bought a ultrabook. I think these are the same.

The packaging is great and the headphones look great as well, very solid feeling. They have a bag and two cables and are good for travel.
However, the sound out of them is not fantastic for $200. I am not a audiophile by any means, and all I did was compare them to a pair of my wife's shure 840's. These are quite different headphones but coincidently cost the same $199.
The shure completely cover the ear, whereas the beats sit on your ear, but both are comfortable. As they sit on your ear, the beats let extraneous noise in, which can be good if you are crossing the road in front of a tram, or playing a pc game whilt listening out for the family yelling at you to do something. However if you want noise isolation and clarity so you can hear every aspect of the music, then the beats are not for you. Also the beats have relatively louder bass, but nowhere near as clear treble compared to teh shure. Some would call it a bit muddy, but if you like bass and will be outside then you probably won't miss the high frequency sounds anyway. I would rather use the beats outside, public transport etc though.

For $200 I would expect a little better sound but for street use they are solid and have a nice carry case.
Oh and I saw a wall of beats headphones for demo at jbhifi in Melbourne so if you want to try you might head in to try them.

    • They are not the same - Studio's have active noise cancellation, and they won't work without batteries

The guy doesn't even know what model headphones he's got (Solo vs Studios) and yet he get 4 votes up?

  • ………………………

  • +1

I'll give a + purely because it is one of the better prices around i've seen for a set of Beats Studios.

But I would recommend the Audio Technica ATH-M50 with that money. They do sound better as well.

  • +1

For a little bit more I bought a pair of Astro A30's which can be used as headphones also for PS3, XBOX, PC etc..very multi purpose, not alot more in price and sound great! Comes with a nice little mix amp and carry case too!

    • oh and they have a built in mic for answering calls on your phone…tell me..can the beats headphones do this?

  • +3

Btw, Dr Dre is not really an actual doctor, and has no qualifications to be a Doctor.

So many people especially ones who don't know much about music think "oh it is made by a doctor it must be awesome".

    • +1

      ummm…huh??

    • +3

LOL, welcome to Planet Earth, we only have trolls in our story books :)

    • +14

so I shouldn't take any drugs that Dr Dre gives me?

  • +1

Most over rated head sets made. Don't fall into the hype.

    • They are fine, but for $199 you can buy much better head-phones elsewhere.

  • yuck

  • +2

    Most likely fake.

    • +4

Does it matter if it is fake, they sound horrible in its original form.

      • +2

I actually own fakes. To me the fakes (if you buy high quality ones) sound better than the original. But that's not the point. Fakes sell for $70-90, so these are a complete rip off if they are indeed fake. Which I am almost certain they are.

        • you're just downvoting based on hearsay? that's unreasonable

        • I own fakes too, bought them recently in the Philippines for $30 the sound quality is crap. I've listened to the real ones and they were much better. I'm considering this deal, most people seem to say the audio technica ones are better though and I don't care much about how they look I wouldn't be wearing them much in public.

        • Then u got shit ones. Look up techiejess on YouTube. Se reviews the fakes.

    • Yeah..there's not even single "original/genuine" statement found on the site.

    • fakes would probably sound better than the originals

    • Agreed. For this price they are most definitely fakes. They retail for $300 in America, $400 here in Oz.

You'd be pretty damn lucky if you could get genuine ones in the US for around the $250 mark so for $200 on some random aussie deal site, it's pretty far-fetched.

  • Are these headphones meant to leak sound badly?

I was on the bus the other day and there was a guy wearing these sitting in front of me and I could clearly hear the music like he was playing them on speakers for the whole bus to hear.

    • Possibly fake? There really isn't any point in getting this. Unless of course you want to show off your taste in music and equipment to other people of similar taste.

      • -2

Originals leak bad too. Most headphones do really.

        • saying that most headphones leak is being overly general. there are some that are designed to keep the sound to your ears, and as far as i know, beats are not what you should be looking at if you don't want leaky cans. unless you get in-ears, but prepare for some excessive DOOF DOOF DOOF going on in your head if you get them.

    • +2

Try following him for 30 years and seeing what his hearing will be like.

      • +3

        What?

  • +1

This should go under the Jersey Shore accessory category.

  • "Before the advent of earphones, the best way to listen to tunes on the go came in the form of a back breaking boom box. This explains why so many former B-Boys walk around these days with the posture of someone auditioning for the role of Quasimodo in the Hunchback of Notre Dame"

    ..what the heck

Regardless, not convinced these are genuine, and returns sound like a pain.

  • -1

lets face it, if you are mug enough to spend $200 on headphones you deserve to be ripped off

  • I'll give a neg due to the sound quality in comparison with my Klipsch. However these could suit you if you like heaps of bass. So much bass that you won't even hear the treble.
