Acer Nitro 5 Laptop: i5-12500H, RTX 3060, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD $1299 + $5 Delivery ($0 C&C) + Surcharge @ Centre Com

220

$1399 for 3060 is a pretty good deal. i5-12500H performs about the same as R7-6800H. ETA 16/12/2022. Surcharges: 1.2% Card & PayPal, 2% AmEx.

This 2022 model should have Max P 3060 with MUX switch.

My only concerns are:
1. RAM need additional upgrade.
2. FHD 144Hz screen might be low on resolution if you want to do content creation/ creativity. The colour gamut should be 100%sRGB but not sure.

20-Dec-2022 Price decreased to $1299, was $1399

Maybe You can post such a deal?

      • -2

Voldemort is right. The HP Victus 16 $1100 was a much better deal

        • -1

Okay, feel free to post such a deal if its still available

          • @Nivlac: Not going to happen anytime soon as it’s out of stock for 2022.

            • @MuddyClear: Right. Whereas this post is in stock ¯_(ツ)_/¯

              • @Nivlac: Then I suggest you buy it at the inflated prices over at OzInfation 😉

                • @MuddyClear: I would, and despite your pointless comments, its still a decent deal but alas I've already owned something else.

                  • +1

@Nivlac: So you think 17+ upvotes makes this a decent deal. I think it’s pretty pointless talking to you

                    • -2

@MuddyClear: 16 upvotes, the last vote was from me. And unlike you, the upvotes means little to me. It doesn't necessarily prove if a deal is deal or not, especially when it comes to technical electronics that gets refreshed every year.
No, it is the 12th gen i5 cpu, un-gimped 3060, mux switch in relation to the price that made me think its a decent deal.

And to your last point, i say:
                      Likewise.

                      • @Nivlac:

                        upvotes means little to me…

                        🤣

especially when it comes to technical electronics that gets refreshed every year.

That’s even more reason to buy right in the first place. The OzB voting system can help with that decision making process, which unfortunately means nothing to you.

No, it is the 12th gen i5 cpu, un-gimped 3060, mux switch in relation to the price that made me think its a decent deal.

Mux switch is overrated, especially if you can achieve the same result using software controls.

And the “un-gimped” 3060 never reaches it’s full potential on this heat throttled laptop with full fans sounding like a jet engine…if you bothered to read the reviews

      • +2

I swear I would I’m watching for the deal too mate

  • +4

The 144hz sku here is unfortunately ~62.5% srgb not ~100% srgb: see reviews 1, 2, 3.

With that said a good price if you want a machine with full wattage 3060 and a static mux switch. The usual caveats with a nitro 5 still applies here, you dont have much battery life to speak off, as ta good number of spaces is taken by the 2.5' drive bay-at least in nitros case you can still use it unlike MSI GF/GL models where its just an empty space, and build quality is ever just so and so. It does it jobs fine of course just if you tries to pitch it to a Legion 5 it wouldnt look that nice but again you cant ask for a 12th gen 3060 legion 5 at this price anyways.

  • The link says it is Max-q. Decent price though, would have bought it if there was a cashback/discount

    • +1

It have 'max-q' technologies built in, doesnt make it max-q as there is no max q designation anymore, this have the full 140w as plenty of reviews have also shown. Max-q technologies is baked into every 30 series mobile chip, this includes nvidia optimus, dynamic boost, whispermode etc.

  • +1

This or the recent Lenovo Legion 5 Pro deal for $1359.20?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/743629

    • +1

      Not 3050

    • +1

If you want best performance for your dollar of course this one. L5P is much better every other way round but 3050 scales extremely bad against a 3060 esp in mobile where theres only a 4gb vram

    • the build quality on this one above really appearing cheap.

      • +1

mate i saw you in the gigabyte a5 and hp victus deals comment section, just so you know this while lessor than a legion doesnt shy of the other two which have worse build quality, not better

        • -1

a picture tells thousand words and a video; 1000 more. The very first link in your own comment having the JarrodTech's review and you can witness the cheapness of build quality there. Victus' quality seems MUCH better in comparison.

          • +1

@nasir55: The victus unit literally had extreme bad screen wobble how is that a non issue mate? The nitro 5 didn’t have worse build as jarrod himself tested it I don’t know where you got that from since he did not make any comments for that. The victus is only more cheaply made as its full on plastics with a screen hinge all too easy to fail as evident by practically every reviewer out there. Again the performance differences are here, if you really think the difference in the visual component is such a turn off I don’t know what to say.

  • +1

I had last year's model of Nitro 5. It was easy to add in the ram. Because only one more slot is available, it's better to add 16GB ram to make the total 24GB.

  • +3

I have the older model and very much enjoy it for what it is.
    i7 11800H, 32GB 3200mhz, 500gb NVME, 3060 6GB 95w, 144hz 1080p screen, etc, etc

    Pro's:
    - It's a very powerful laptop for "normal" gaming at the price point. I run it on an external 144hz 1440p screen and it works well.
    - It makes a great desktop replacement (I use it "docked" as my daily)
    - Good number of ports i.e. Thudnerbolt 4, USB3 Type A, HDMI out, etc.
    - VERY expandable/up-gradable when it comes to storage, ram and external devices (Thunderbolt 4).
    - Cooling solution is pretty nice with the twin fans and quad exhaust.

    Cons:
    - The build quality is average at best. (this may have changed with newer versions)
    - It's loud when the fans are cranking. (most gaming laptops are like this)
    - Battery life is average at best.
    - My model came with a power brick that can not fully sustain the laptops power draw at full boar. It will often drain the battery while plugged in while playing games. With that being said, it's never caused me an issue though.
    - No MUX switch which seems like an oversight imo. You will get the best performance out of this laptop with an external monitor plugged in via HDMI.
    - 3060 is good but it's pinned to around 95w. I don't often hit 95w though and usually sit around 75-80w. I really wish they designed it with the 130w version for a little extra oomph at 1440p.

    Overall opinion:
    - I'd buy it again as a desktop replacement without a second thought, if it's what I needed but only in a similar configuration/performance spec.
    - I'm very happy with it overall for price vs performance.
    - Thunderbolt 4 means there's options in the future, if needed.

No idea if this helps anyone but yolo. I've seen worse comments on Ozbargain before haha

    Happy holidays all!

    • yeah i have a 2021 3060 version. Its been… okay. My biggest gripe would be the cooling, but subpar cooling on budget laptops is pretty much a given. For the $1k it cost, there really wasn't anything else near it at the time

      • -2

        It was more than $1k…

  • This or https://www.binglee.com.au/products/asus-15-6i-r7-16gb-512gb… for $1,496 price beaten at Officeworks? So $1,425?

    • The Asus has better build quality and battery life. If you want something purely for gaming and it will be plugged into a power point the 3060 in Nitro will be of more benefit.

    • For gaming, with a power point handy, this deal without a doubt.
For work and travel or without power nearby all the time, probably the Asus, but youare paying more and getting less.

      • It is about $25 difference lol. You do get more RAM with the Asus. But good to know that the i5 and the 3060 should outmatch the Ryzen and 3050ti and I am assuming significantly.

*EDIT: Actually with Centrecom surcharge they might come out roughly at the same price.

Reviews are not favourable, seems like the Nitro will overheat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-p2uOCAoXw

        • The 3060 is the minimum you'd want for gaming (Edit: FHD, 60fps+). If that's not your goal, the Asus will be fine. RAM is a significantly easier upgrade than the GPU…
Anecdotally, our Nitro hasn't overheated playing Deeprock Galactic for many many hours. The fan can make some noise but that's the price of entry for an entry level price.

  • Views as to how this compares to the Harvey Norman HP victus 16.1 r7/5800h, rtx3060 95w 16gb mem from a couple weeks ago for 1098?

    • Just by pure performance gains, you definitely get your moneys worth with the full powered 3060 and the inclusion of a mux switch, screen is questionable and thats about the only concern, both quality in build and thermal solution are more than serviceable and better than the victus. The only other downside I can think of is with the lack of a battery that, apart from that it’s an okay machine.

Oh and points to be need to taken of as you need to upgrade with another 8gb stick down the line. It’s a cheap and easy upgrade but it’s annoying you have to do it in the first place.

      • -2

both quality in build and thermal solution are more than serviceable and better than the victus

Quite the opposite. Anyway given the upvotes on this deal it’s no way near as popular as the Victus deal

        • Its not as popular because its not cheap and nitro 5 have long had the stigma of being a bad machine, thats irrevelant to the topic at hand which is the cooling solution for this years model.

          Quite the opposite.

except the fact that the new nitro 5 packs far more wattage into its gpus…and have more than decent benchmark temps, and except the fact that the nitro 5 dont have horrible screen wobble unlike the victus.

          • @Brrrrt:

Its not as popular because its not cheap…

You lost credibility with that argument. There are plenty of cheap stuff peddled on OzB that are rubbish or not popular

the cooling solution for this years model

New Acer Nitro still runs way hotter than the Victus. Not sure where you are getting your facts from

            screen wobble unlike the victus.

If you use the Victus on a sturdy surface it’s a non issue.

Given the upvotes on this deal it’s clearly not a good deal like you think it is.

            • @MuddyClear:

You lost credibility with that argument. There are plenty of cheap stuff peddled on OzB that are rubbish.

stop engaging in whataboutism here, this is not what your original argument was

New Acer Nitro still runs way hotter than the Victus. Not sure where you are getting your facts from

literally timestamped but you arent willing to watch it

If you use the Victus on a sturdy surface it’s a non issue.

literally the video i linked had the guy useing it on a solid table it wobbles like crazy. literally every reviewer mentioned the screen wobble as a major concern except you

Given the upvotes on this deal it’s clearly not a good deal like you think it is.

except i am speaking from facts not some fake internet upvotes. do continue to live in your own personal bubble though

              • -1

                @Brrrrt:

stop engaging in whataboutism here, this is not what your original argument was

It has nothing to do about whataboutism. Are you OK?

literally timestamped but you arent willing to watch it

There is nothing there showing Acer has better cooling than Victus. Again, are you OK?

i am speaking from facts not some fake internet upvotes. do continue to live in your own personal bubble though

You are actually talking out of your bottom end frankly.

Yes we upvoters are all fakes 🤣 sheesh don’t talk to me about personal bubbles

      • Keyboard is also bad

  • Somebody make this price come down to $1200 please.

  • its back at $1299
