Mine adds tax and ends up at ~A$160

    • +1

What's the USD price? Do you see the US$12 discount?

      • I have the same issue, coming up at around $164 ish…cant see the US$12 discount?

      • +6

It's not a Clear post without someone claiming the price is wrong. 😂

      • What is the original price in USD you are getting before any discounts?

mine is showing up at US$101.78 before tax and coupons.

        • +6

          US$101.78

The Spend and Save US$12 discount (app/desktop site only afaik) brings it to US $99.06 and the coupon brings it to US $93.06. Then I get the AU$ amount in the title via the current Mastercard exchange rate.

If you're getting a higher AU$ rate you're making a couple of mistakes. Either setting AliExpress to AUD or paying in USD but letting PayPal do the conversion. The is that if you have a card without currency conversion fees you add that to PayPal, set the website currency to USD and at PayPal checkout under that payment method is something along the lines of "See currency options" where you can bill the card in USD.

Then you'll get the current exchange rate for your card.

          • @Clear: Thank you… will try this.

          • @Clear: Thanks for these instructions! This worked for me $138.94

  • is the coupon supposed to be BRAND or BRADN?

    • BRADNC5

    • +2

      Someone typo'd at AliExpress.

    • +7

      BRODEN

    • Braydn.

  • +1

Can you use that with a firestick as a poor man’s media player?

    • +5

      Yep.

    • You can get one of those mini projectors and do the same thing btw

      • I was watching someone use a portable projector on the plane. Some random brand. The brightness and contrast was super eh. But it did look like it worked.

        • I just bought one of those common-as-muck yellow ones for a project. Pic was not terrible but def worse than a LCD screen….that says size is great for what it does

  • HDR
    Have my doubts

    • HDR isn't exactly expensive or hard to implement. It's not some fancy piece of hardware installed.

HDR10 is free to use. HDR10+ however has a yearly cost.

      • +2

Maybe I’m thinking of HDR10+ but I thought to properly implement you needed local dimming zones and a high peak brightness

        • +2

1000nits minimum, however there is no real "rule" to the standard.

        • +4

My laptop has HDR but it's only a 300nit screen so if you turn on HDR it looks absolutely awful. The screen technically supports it though. Guessing this one would be the same.

          • +5

@Agret: I suppose by HDR, they mean it accepts a HDR signal.

    • +3

I would imagine it's like most cheap 'HDR' monitors, it can process an HDR signal, but it's just going to look garbage in comparison to something with proper local dimming or OLED.

    • Yeah I've had a few of these cheapie portable displays. The ips panels are horrible, massive gamma shift as soon as you go off axis.

I highly doubt this even does HDR

  • +1

Are these portable monitors powered separately or from the USB-C connecting with laptop ?

    • +3

Powered separately. You'd want to use a wall charger.

      • +2

How's your health now ? Getting better ?

        • +6

Yep recovered very well despite being half empty now.

          • +2

@Clear: That's great. Hopefully you will be up and on the go soon.

            Half empty ?

            • +6

@ChipsChicky: A significant amount inside had to be removed. I'll probably do an AMA about it all next month.

          • +3

@Clear: "Half empty now" sounds really ominous out of context. I hope you recover to full!

      • +2

Any way to run without access to a power socket? E.g. Battery of some kind. Not really that portable if it needs to be plugged in all the time.

        • +1

          A powerbank.

        • +1

I got a 17inch l and my s22 ultra can run it with 1 usb c cable just had to adjust backlight to 50%

      • That's a shame, I'll check your next monitor post, the ones powered off the device are a lot less mucking around. Thanks Clear

        • +1

They're all going to be the same I'm pretty sure.

  • Thanks!

  • What's the main use of these? I saw a programmer using it rather than a 2 or 3 screen setup.

    • +2

Portability. When I travel for work it's easier to carry a portable monitor around than a larger bulky one. Especially when it comes to air travel.

    • +9

I have a similar product - a lapdock. I used it as a second screen while working away from home. It had benefits over an iPad especially if the connection is flaky.

      I've used it for

      • Samsung DeX
      • Troubleshooting/building PCs
      • Setting up an RPI
    • +1

I’m actually looking for a 15” one with a VESA mount that I can use vertically alongside a 27” monitor.

      For example.

    • I use my laptop with a tablet as a second screen.

I find it very helpful when doing certain tasks like education or programming, though at home I use an ultra wide monitor. Thing is with an ultra wide is that my main content is off centre, say two thirds of the right and the irregularly used content is on the left third of the screen. While on my laptop, my main content is right in front of me, and the irregular is on the smaller screen off centre. I'm not sure what I prefer.

    • Fits nicely under my Xiami 34" screen. Playing WOT on the big screen, and watching netflix while waiting in the queue.

    • Laptop +2 screens for 3 screen productivity without getting out of bed

  • +1

Can I use a power bank to power it up? Also, it doesn't come with a sleeve bag for travel.

    • I'd say so if your PB has USB PD

  • +7

I traveled around the US for about a year using 2x portable 2K 13" monitors. Got used to them really quickly, but finally when I got home to dual 27" monitors it felt like I was working at imax

    • +4

Wish the builders of the Sydney Imax would stop going broke and get it finished.

      • Constant source of revenue, delay = more money! ;)

  • Will the monitor take the feed from an Android phone via USB-C and display it?

    • Yes

    • +1

If your phone supports video out via USB-C, then yes.

  • Finally checked out for $141.65, let's see when it will arrive and how long can it last without any issues.

  • Trigger pulled at $91.08 US via PayPal, macquarie app popped up - charged @$136.62 AU hehehe…
AliExporess coins I collected or something I guess….

    • exact same for me except with UP Bank

      $136.62 (91.08USD)

      aliexpress order

      Subtotal US $101.78
      Coins -US $1.80
      Spend & Save -US $12.00
      Promo code -US $6.00
      Tax US $9.10
      Total US $91.08

Can anyone suggest a budget 120-144Hz portable monitor. Don't care much about panel type, brightness, srgb or variety of ports… just need it to be high refresh rate because I can't really gaming with 60hz panel

  • Theres No vesa mounting like mentioned in description.

    • +1

If you check the images there's two screw holes for vesa mounting.

      • Ow yer i see. Thanks.

  • I wonder if these get screen bleed like a lot of the cheap portable screens.

  • Have people tried to use these type of screens with gaming consoles? Work well?

  • I've seen comments saying you can power this using your USB C ported phone.

For samsung, can that be done simultaneously with smart view? Been meaning to get one to make video watching a bit more fun.

  • These were never posted on Ozbargain until I bought one two weeks ago… now three portable monitors been posted in a week. Hate getting ripped

    • Thank you for your sacrifice.

  • $141.65 aud on paypal paying in usd, close enough.

  • $91.08USD for me after only $6USD discount using the code (and via Brave with the cashrewards plugin).

  • Thanks OP

  • johnwill or john wick ?

  • +1

Don't forget to use Cashrewards, mine got tracked with $5.54 cashback.

  • This doesn't appear to come with a cover, as it has a 'built-in' kickstand.

Also, any idea on the W required to power it?

    • +1

If it's anything like others usually 15W (5V/3A). I think you can run it off less maybe. I'll see when mine from the other deal rocks up.

  • +1

Just a word of warning, its most likely not 72% ntsc / 100% rgb as claimed unless you manage to verify the panel used. Could actually be a 45% ntsc / 72% rgb panel.

Almost every aliexpress seller claims hdr, 100% rgb, blah blah. Source: ive bought a portable monitor off aliexpress before and i couldnt check the panel with using hwinfo unless you open it which i didnt.

had one next to my lg and innolox panels which were both 72% ntsc / 100% rgb and it wasnt anywhere close.

    • +1

It doesn't claim to be 100% RGB. It's 72% sRGB and in my experience that's usually accurate.

The panel used between this and LG, Samsung etc would be a different story. Factory seconds and rejected panels is a nice way to make a portable monitor cheap.

      • Most panels now days are minimum 45% ntsc / 72% srgb. In that case its a very standard portable monitor.

        • It's $140 for a 16" portable monitor…

          • @Clear: Other than 1920x1200 its always been $130…

            • @wombok2: Not sure why you're linking another product from another brand and another store. Basically makes the argument moot.

  • Not sure how it can be 1920x1080 @ 16:10, surely it is either 1920x1080 @ 16:9 or 1920x1200 if it is actually 16:10?

    • No deal then?
