Anybody know if the multi room would support 2 Tv sources seperately connected to seperate bookshelves

No. 1 TV surround in one room and music only in another

It's good entry level unit that supports newest codecs

    • Bingo. I got fooled by this years ago

Don't like the guy, think he's an absolute flog whose opinions can be bought, and doesn't like being caught out….

    But he reviewed it recently.

    • -1

Can you summarise a TD:LR as it goes on for 20mins?

      • +4

Half of his videos is him and his wife just talking shit at the end.

        Video has timestamps anyway.

        • He did mention that this unit is entry level and nothing special and I agree. Yeah it drags on a little but made his point half way in the video. The X2700H is a big jump in price.

          • @vinni9284: Their fans of onkyo of late in the more entry to mid range.

            • @scuderiarmani: OK. I do have a few of Integra (Onkyo) receivers and they are beefy. So I can understand the bias tbh.

    • +4

i watched about 4 minutes and gave up, he spoke more about how many speakers he owns than the receiver.

Biggest shill in the audiophile/HT space on YT. Fck that guy

  • @cruiserdog9 _ i replied to your comment and mouse slipped and deleted it and mine - apologies! please re-post

  • How does this compare with RX-V6A? Looking mainly for light tv viewing plus music through bookshelf speakers in 2 zones

    • +2

keen to know anyone's feedback on this also. weighing this up with the V6A and pioneer avr-935.
wants are multi-zone w/multi source (i.e. TV in main zone and spotify/net radio in Zone2).
the Yamaha's app looks better than the Pioneer/Denon?
noted the v6a is basically OOS in australia until Jan.

      • +2

The V6A seems like it has more grunt but the Pioneer has more features (2 x HDMI outs that can support Zone 2 TV)

      • Oh that's awesome.. I'll be able to ditch my V6A for a profit.. :)

        • V6A prices are nuts now. Makes me feel ill seeing what they were going for on here last year

          • @kev98: Yeah.. I bought mine for $690..

  • I have a Denon AVR amp (older model) Highly recommend!

  • What speaker deals go with this deal?

    • +1

Nothing. You choose what your budget permits?

Whole point of buying seperates, flexibility.

Obviously don't overspend in one area though.

    • Selling my brand new klipsch rp600m uf interested
      Never plugged them in.

  • My old Pioneer VSX 1019AH-K is 120w per channel. I need to upgrade to a HDMI 1.2 compliant AVR but would I have issues with this being only 95w per channel now? My Klipsch speakers are 100w per channel.

    • +2

      You mean HDMI 2.1 right

      • Oops yeah, thanks.

        • Get a hdmi matrix spliter
          $100 fix all

          • @G11987: Won't work. You can't get true HDMI 2.1 from a lesser version. You need a newer receiver that supports HDMI 2.1.

            • @vinni9284: Hdmi 2.1 splitter will separate video and audio signal, audio to receiver, video to Tv projector etc

              • @G11987: Correct. But the source (AV receiver has to be HDMI 2.1 out)
So on earlier receivers (i.e HDMI 1.4 -> splitter cannot upscale to HDMI 2.1)

                • @vinni9284: Sources to HDMI splitter
                  video hdmi 2.1 to tv
                  Audio >receiver
I got this setup works ok.

                  • @G11987: What receiver do you have?

                    • @vinni9284: Denon X3100w

                      • @G11987: How do you know you are getting HDMI 2.1 out from splitter?
What is the make and model of the splitter?

                        • @vinni9284: 4K refresh rate
My av receiver doesn’t support 4K pass through

                  • @G11987: Here is a simple splitter
                    https://www.amazon.com.au/Tersely-Bi-Directional-Converter-C…

Note:If you would like to output 8K@60Hz,4K@120Hz and 1080P@240Hz via our splitter in your displays, please make sure your source devices, your cable and your monitors can all support the resolution and refresh rate you need to output.

                    • @vinni9284: That’s splitter not matrix splitter

You need multiple inputs and outputs,
One output go to your receiver. You don’t need to use receiver hdmi out function.

                      • @G11987: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-VWh28T0PsLn/p_033AVX3100/Denon…

                        Your X3100W has HDMI 2.0. Hence not HDCP 2.2 & HDR10, HDMI 2.1 etc

And YES, your AVR supports 4K passthrough.

                        4K/60p and 3D video pass-through
This receiver is not HDCP 2.2-compliant and will not support copy-protected 4K video content.

Your splitter is just splitting your HDMI 2.0 4K 60p and not upscaling into HDMI 2.1 which supports newer format.
So basically, you bought that for nothing unless you update to an AVR that has HDMI 2.1 output. Sorry

                        • @vinni9284: Not really. With receiver pass through, I only can get 1080P 120Hz regardless

                          • @G11987: You need 3 things for HDMI 2.1 to work. (factoring HDMI 2.1 input source to receiver)

AV receiver support HDMI 2.1 output -> HDMI cable supporting HDMI 2.1 signal -> TV with HDMI 2.1 input

Any break in the chain (i.e. HDMI 2.0 or less) will render no HDMI 2.1 signal, with splitter or not.

                            Cheers

                            • @vinni9284: Youre forgetting the fourth lol. Unless you can find 4K 120fps on a streaming site or in a usb drive which hasnt happened yet. So either Xbox X, PS5 or PC (Graphics Card needs to be HDMI 2.1)

                              • @Whisper Quiet: No I didn't lol.

Please check (factoring HDMI 2.1 input source to receiver)

                                • @vinni9284: Thats still 4!

                                  • @Whisper Quiet: I can go to 5 if i want and include the original software has to support 4K/120, VRR, HDR10 , not an older game, enhanced or upscaled ….etc.. I'm sure you get my point.

                          • @G11987: Check your receiver HDMI menu to 'enable 4K passthrough" as it may not be activated.

                            • @vinni9284: That’s not the case.

                              • @G11987: Yes it is. And I have sent proof. What is your TV make and model?

                                • @vinni9284: I use fire tv
                                  Google tv
That’s only work with hdcp 2.2 receivers. That’s the case

    • +3

      No issues.

And regardless, the quoted figures are all BS on Receivers. Your Pioneer isn't giving 120w.

      • +2

        Seconded.

@donkey33 your Klipsch speakers will be just fine driven from any modern Receiver.

        • Thanks mate

        • +1

          Thanks mate

Wattage doesn't tell the whole story. You want high current and the ability to handle low impedances from an amp. Doubling the wattage will only give you an extra 3db volume, so the difference between 95w and 120w will be negligible.

Speaker power ratings are also a guideline. Keep in mind that if you have your speakers on low volume, you might be only be sending them 5 watts each. I doubt you'd be sending 100w to the speakers very often, that's very loud.
As long as you're not cranking the speaker to high volumes and clipping the signal, you'll be fine with less wattage than the speakers are rated for.

      • I don't understand the whole wattage/ohm speaker talk so thanks for the explanation.

Am happy with the old Pioneer AVR but I've had to resort to everything into the TV and optical to the AVR which means no HD audio so need an upgrade. The Pioneer was the upper end of the budget line so just wanted something similar and it's either this X1700H, the Pioneer VSX-935 or to spend that little bit more and move to say a Pioneer VSX-LX305 (can get for around $1,800) or the X3800H on special (was $2,399 a week or so ago).

I'm no audiophile by any means and don't have amazing speakers but didn't want to downgrade from where I was either. I'm guessing the X1700H would be absolutely fine and hopefully equivalent listening to the old Pioneer?

        • +2

The X1700H would be fine for your setup. The X3800H is a decent jump however if you invest in this unit, you can always upgrade the speakers in future.

    • Don't worry about wattage. The higher the better from the receiver. Mostly are overrated as there is no standardisation for wattage output for receivers. The Klipsch speakers will easily take more wattage. The Denon on this post should be suffice

I have had the 1700h for about 6 months after my Yamaha 685 did the old DSP chip heating issue thingy ($600 to repair) - for that alone wont buy Yammy again

The 1700h sounds amazing way better than the Yamaha did - soundscape both for Movies and Xbox and music is fantastic - Great price paid $1180 back then

    • Is that where the sound doesn't come out until the chip heats up? My Yamaha is on the blink and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't

      • Yes takes longer and longer to heat up before you get any sound at all - then starts screeching as it heats up - that bits not fun!

        • How did you work out that was the problem? I have done some research and I think I have that same issue. Someone said to unplug the speakers one by one to make sure it isn't a short?

          • @Dajaba: As the amp warms up you eventually get sound stuttering in and out before it finally locks in -initially this took 5 mins then 10 then 15, and sometimes you'll get a squeel from the speakers as this warms up. You can have it fixed but when I looked into it was $600+ just not worth it

  • What's the best "budget" AVR that supports 4K/120Hz pass-through and VRR, so I can connect a Series X / PS5 a suitable TV?

(I don't have the right TV yet… but plan to eventually get one, and a suitable AVR to match)

I bought this in April this year for $1,120 on eBay ($100 discount code). Replaced my 20yo Denon really well.
The 2nd zone is a little clunky but only because of the way I want it to work (zone 2 via digital optical via Chromecast Audio). You can only play a different source than Zone 1 if you use Analog connections for Zone 2. This rules out HDMI and digital optical.

Luckily I never need to do separate sources at the same time - but to run zone 2 from digital I have to select "Source" on zone 2, then go to zone 1 and select Chromecast Audio (as zone 2 set to "source" basically follows zone 1). It's just clunky, but works fine once set.

    From the manual:

You can simultaneously play back the same source in both the MAIN ZONE and ZONE2. You can also play back separate sources in the MAIN ZONE and ZONE2.
If the input for ZONE2 is set to “Source”, both digital and analog connected devices can be listened to from ZONE2.
If the input for ZONE2 is set to a specific source (like CBL/SAT), only connected analog devices can be listened to from ZONE2.

    • The Zone stuff is one of the main differences between the low and high end models from the Receiver manufacturers.
You usually need to jump up a few models before you start getting full multi-zone without any limitations.

  • The price looks like FullHD…

  • Price matched JB Hifi to 1080
    9 x $100 Ultimate 10% Gift Cards + 5 x $15 Ultimate 3% Gift Cards +1 x $5 Ultimate 3% Gift Cards =

    $1080 - $90 - $2.25 - $0.15 =

    $987.60

    Good price considering:

  • Question for the tech guys..

Is it possible to remap speakers? I have a forward facing 5.1 setup but would like to be able to setup another listening area which is 2.1, but it's 90 degrees rotation to the original 5.1 setup. Can you set up the amp to play Front Left, Rear Left on a different input?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated..

    • No.

But you can probably do this with switches to physically switch your speaker cables.

Connect your Front Right and Rear Left speaker to both front right and rear left outputs on the amp, via something like a https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272316079037 to make your selection.
ie. Send the Front Right output to the Rear Left speaker on demand. Or Front Right output to the Front Right speaker in normal listening.

      • Thanks Nom.. Appreciate the reply. I've had another idea so will use that instead. thank you..
