Customer Retention Offer: $20/Month off for 6 Months (for Home nbn Customers Who Want to Cancel for Poor Experience) @ Telstra

991

I am currently on a Telstra 50/20 plan (HFC) paying more than I should. With the recent deals I was looking at cancelling my Telstra service so I could move to ABB. While exploring their website around service cancellation, I clicked through to the various reasons for cancellation and found a notification on the "I've had a poor experience" link that offers $20/mth off for 6 months to stay with Telstra NBN (See screenshot)

I don't know if this is targeted or only applicable to specific plan speeds although it will take 2 minutes to check so worth seeing if this works for you. For reference I have been with Telstra for more than a year.

The deal link requires you to be signed in to My Telstra. To navigate there, sign into My Telstra via telstra.com.au. Select your home internet service under "Account Overview" and then click on "View or manage your plan". Then click on "Cancel your service" and then click on "I've had a poor experience". You should then see the message bar as per the screenshot near the top of the screen.

Once you click on the banner you will see a page that says:

"Your $20 monthly credit on your Telstra nbn service will be valid for 6 months and will be applied within 2 business days.

The credit will appear on your bill as ‘Bonus Credit’ within 2 bill cycles. If your nbn service is cancelled within 6 months of receiving your credit, the credit will be removed."

Good luck!

EDIT: It seems you might need to click through some of the options for cancellation before this appears. I had clicked a couple of options before seeing it pop up.

Tried on app with no luck. Then I tried via my laptop and it worked :)

That worked. Click one of the options to get it to shut (ie cost to cancel)

First time: $10 offered. I tried cancelling again and again and it stuck on $10 each time.

So what happens if I log out and try again. Maybe I get $20.

Got nothing. Nothing. Still nothing. Rebooted, wiped cookies etc. Nothing.

I seem to have made it angry. I can't even get the $10 offer back.

  • Worked perfect!! Thanks!!

I did have to click through the menu options as to how much would it cost to cancel my subscription and such before the offer popped up.

got me $10, had to click on one of the FAQ questions on the final screen to get it to appear

    • Thanks for this. It didn't come up straight away but as soon as I clicked on one of the questions the option to stay for $10 month showed.

    • No luck for me.

  • Thanks OP. $10 for me too.

Didn’t work on mobile browser or MyTelstra app. Logged into a desktop browser, went to cancellation reasons a couple of times and entered a feedback comment too. Then the banner appeared.

    Cheers!

  • Yes… $10 for me too… I had to click back and forward a bit but it popped up…Thanks for the heads up @macfudge

  • Just clicked cancel, then poor experience, then how much fee involved, then the $10 pop up.

  • I have a monthly $20 credit for years. It's a loyalty credit. Ask for it.

    Got the $10 discount eventually

    Thanks for the tip!!

  • I’m worried I will get given points instead of discount. I have so many points built up and the store sucks.
What can I do with 120,000 points?

  • Thanks OP

    Got $10 off

Still a ripoff but better than nothing

Had to turn off adblock, so everyone should try that

  • Settled for $10 off, so that's 60 bux for the 20 minutes it took to get a response to my many repeated threats to leave Telstra. Thanks OP

  • Wow, tried a few times through web browser and was actually presented with the $20 credit offer. Thanks OP, I'll be in the running for MVP this family Christmas.

  • got mine eventually but got offered it in the having difficulty paying my bill section.

    Thanks for sharing this deal!

I followed the instructions to the letter numerous times but the offer never appeared for me. I tried using the My Telstra app as well as the website.

I contacted the Telstra support through the app as a last resort and I informed them that Aussie Broadband offers the same premium FTTP plan for a much cheaper price. They initially agreed to offer 10$ credit per month for the next 6 months. I requested them to check if it is the best they can offer as it is not competitive enough. Finally, they replied that they have applied a credit of 15$ per month for the next 6 months.

    • I also tried this and scored $10 off for 12 months, they wouldn't do $15 for me. I previously had $10 off for 6 months, so it's worth a try contacting support

  • First bill received since receiving a $10 discount. The discount was not applied.

Contacted customer service and had the discount applied for 12 months. Took about 40 mins.

  • I am on the $80 nbn 25 plan. Called Telstra and was advised that no discount is available on my plan as it is the cheapest plan. No discount option appears if I go to the cancel plan screen and work my way through it.

    • i thought that plan didn't exist anymore, it got upped to $85 last month for me. Also no offer for discount.

  • Discount didn't appear on my bill. Chat claims they can't do anything since there was no reference number

  • Got -$10 was -$15 previously. Thanks for saving me $60 as i had forgotten about this.

  • Has anyone actually got the discount applied to their bill? It's been 2 billing cycles since I signed up to the offer but still nothing.

    • Not me.

      • wonder if it's just us lol…

    • Also nothing applied 2 bills later

  • Two bills went by with no $20/month discount.

Contacted Telstra live chat support today who were able to apply the $20 discount to my current bill and have added it on for the next 6 bills.

Received reference and order numbers. Telling them the date I had the discount offered to me and the screenshot of it seemed to be enough for them to go ahead and process it.

  • Can confirm that this still works, need AdBlock turned off.
However, the offer has been further reduced to $5 off for 12 months.

    • Same offer here

  • How much 50/20 NBN with Telstra?

    • Bloody expensive first class rip off

      • +1

I wouldn't ever put Telstra and first class in the same sentence

  • Why anyone would use Telstra as an NBN provider, I don't know. They charge a premium price but don't deliver a premium service. Aussie Broadband deliver a premium service but only charge a moderate price. People have some weird affinity with Telstra, probably from the days decades ago when they didn't have a choice or when Telstra actually did deliver a premium service relative to other providers

    • I have the exact same question, they are so blatant with the sht value they offer in everything from NBN, mobile, international roaming and so on..

  • +2

i dont even have a "Cancel your service" option!

  • Got the $5 off for 12 months, thanks OP

  • Anyone got tips for how to transfer your parents email from Telstra? Really don't want to change the email in every account but that is the 1 barrier in convincing my folks to change from decades of Telstra service.

    • Same, and I've stayed with telstra for years because of this. I did notice in the cancel your service form there is an option to keep the email address, so now i am seriously considering moving, but hoping its not a hard process.

Was previously some chat on this…

      • Legend. Thank you, that was really helpful

  • Good find… Now to try on my old man's Telstra account…

  • Tried it out on the in-law's account, only option that appears is switching to Belong 😂

  • Anyone who got $20 off for 6 months from this being posted last year manage to double dip?

  • Could not pay me enough. I hate them with a passion.

What you save you will spend in hours speaking to customer service about unresolved issues.

  • Got the $5 off how generous, oh well $60 is better than a kick in bum

  • nothing

  • doesnt work in 2024
