  • This or Max?

Plus is next model up from Max, it has LCD for timer & grind size.

Have the og barista max. Leaks everywhere like an excited dog greeting you. Got to a point i get a tingle when i touch a certain part of the machine. Threw it out as it was a year past warranty. Otherwise it makes decent coffee. Hope the newer models addresses that flaw.

Exact same thing happened here with the same model. Happened right after warranty expired too :(

Any coffee machine requires regular maintenance / cleaning by owner ie descaling, backflushing with right tablets/powder, changing water filters etc. Also this will varies depending which state you located as some states have harsher water than others.
Apart from that, all machines need also service by technician or a person who is handy with tools and some youtube video on what to replace, eg O-rings, gaskets, etc. The cost of these consumable parts is very small. This is expected to be done may be 18 month or so.
Some coffee machines cost thousands, and would be foolish to throw the machine if some leak occur.

      • Where do you usually get those replacement parts (O-rings, etc.), if you don't mind me asking?

I don't have a Sunbeam machine, you need to google the machine model you have and find a place who sell its parts. Some brands are popular than others, so you find more places who sell their parts.

I rate this machine… best value for money

  • I've only recently started looking at coffee machines, I missed the deal for the Breville Barista Express yesterday (was ~$480 after cashback). How does this machine compare?

  • hate to hijack here, but where do you ozb's get your coffee beans? I am waiting for my first ever coffee machine to arrive.
I guess it is about taste but here we only talk about price

Which machine did you order and did you buy a grinder?

Coffee making will require some practicing and learning curve, so you will be wasting some beans and milk to learn how to froth. So I suggest you get Aldi medium roast beans or the Brazil single origin as they are cheap and reasonably fresh. Adjust grind size till you get the optimum brew ratio generally 2:1 in 30 sec

To learn frothing, add some dishwasher soap to water and practice frothing to you don't waste the milk.
