Tokyo, Japan via Manila from $241 One Way, $461 Return on Cebu Pacific [Mar-Oct] @ Beat That Flight

1182

Unsure if Black Friday, a mistake, or just awesome fares, but these are incredible. The last ones we posted were still in the $600s.

Cebu Pacific is a low cost airline, and flights stop in Manila enroute. But cheap and cheerful, and it's in summer so you can pack light :)

Example return flights - I've found a couple, but I'll give some examples, then show all the one way flights and hopefully that'll help mix and match/ find more dates that suit people. Not sure how many there are.

Hotels in Tokyo are also being found for up to 60% off

Return Price Travel Dates

$639 30 Aug to 18 Sep

MEL-NRT 18 Sep 2023 is $251 on Cebu Pacific website (hand carry only, checked luggage +$63).

Never again. NAIA airport is the worst airport I have ever been to, its not worth the saving. Trying to change terminals for a connecting flight was one of the most confusing and stressful experiences.

lol its not that bad plus its a developing country, can't expect 5 star quality lol

      • +3

        Lol yes it is lol

    • +2

I was actually amazed at how smoothly things worked transferring in the same terminal at NAIA. I flew PAL Sydney-Manila then on to London in 2018, checked bags were transferred across in the 40 minutes I had on the ground without issue. An airplane-full of people lining up at the small PAL transfer desk was the only problem but it all went well.

      • The issue seems to be when transferring between terminals.

        • It wouldn't make any sense for Cebu to run international flights out of separate terminals. Pretty sure it's a non-issue.

          • +1

@Techie4066: This just in : People are stupid.

      • I believe PAL has their own terminal so maybe @crazy94boy's experience was in another terminal with poorer facilities. Yeah it probably is not that bad but it's not hard to imagine the NAIA airport having crap processes

  • +6

Cebu are only suited for smaller people as their seats and leg room are smaller than other carriers (including Qantas).

    • like jetstar

    • +1

This. SIN-CEB was 4hr of absolute torture (I'm 195cm). Changed my return flight and flew PIA. Marginally better, but I have vowed to never fly Cebu again as I simply don't fit.

      • +1

It does meet the CIA definition of torture (they had to water it down after so many people complained)

          • +6

@Techie4066: Just filling in for jv between shifts. I’ll be sure to pass on your feedback to the real legend in these parts

            • +1

@tharlow: I don't mind jv, actually. He's kind of funny, known for relevant dry humour and recognised by everyone for that, unlike you. I hate it when 10% of a popular deal's comments (must-read pages to find answers) are full of your fluff. That's not something jv does.

      • You mean PAL? Pakistan Airlines doesn't fly that route afaik. PAL also has some squishy A330s they use to shuttle cattle flights to the Middle East (for human labour) which you might've been on. The layout used on Sydney flights is a really comfortable 2-4-2.

        • +1

Yes, PAL…my bad, haven't worked in aviation for a few years & my ICAO code recall is lacking!

      • +2

I am 185cm and it is definitely cramped! That being said, we just pay to sit in an exit row and the legroom issue is sorted. I can't remember if it was CEB or PAL but there were times when we got the exit row seats for free simply by asking but that was maybe 5years ago

  • I know this is about Cebu airlines but does anyone have any reviews on China Airlines (layover @ Taipei).

Every other airlines is super exxy over January (duh…) but china seems suspiciously cheaper at $2k ish for return.

    • +10

Air China = bad, China Airlines = awesome, in my experience. Flew them from CHC to SYD and it felt close to Emirates in comfort.

    • +2

China Airlines is awesome. They have a great price for Japan right now. Taipei airport is fantastic too

      • Any idea how Philippine Airlines compares to China Airlines?

        • PAL is poor these days in comparison to carriers such as China Airlines or EVA Air.

          • @AircraftFreight: It really seems to vary. They were great for me in 2018 - a fairly new A330 and a 777 that was a few months old, good food, friendly service, comfortable seating and tickets nearly half the price of the next cheapest.

        • +2

Hit and miss. I've flown PAL a few times in Business Class and as long as you know you're paying for the seat only, anything else that comes with it is a bonus. Food has varied from worse than Scoot to as good as Qantas (Pre Covid). I find the staff to be great when flying to the Phillipines while the regional staff are rubbish.

China Airlines is consistent. They fly the A350 out of Australia and it has a nice seat in Economy and Business Class is unreal. Their older A333's flying to Japan are still comfortable and honestly it's such a short flight it doesn't really matter. The bulk of your flying is from Melbourne to Taiwan so that's what matters and it's great. Best economy meals I've eaten and nearly right up there with Business Class

  • hotel in tokyo is just a closet?

Mine was 2 cubic metres, minus the hanging tv that I’d bang my head on.
$31 in the heart of the city though. OzBargain.

For some context here, the Cebu Pacific A330-300s are the WORST rated widebody aircraft seating config in history.
436 economy only seats in an absolutely shocking 3-3-3 config, the industry standard is 2-4-2. And with a shocking 28-inches of leg room, much worse than Jetstar's 31 inches on their 787s. Heck even their A320s are 29-30 inches.

For some more context, Singapore Airlines' A380s seat 376 passengers.
    SWISS' A330-300s seat 236 passengers.
    Qantas' A330-300s seat 297 passengers.
    Qantas' A380-800s seat 485 passengers.
    Emirates' A380-800s seat 484 passengers.

I would strongly advise not going with Cebu Pacific, along with horrible customer service, really poor OTP numbers, aircraft that like to go AOG and more.

    • +2

      and more.

I’m glad you didn’t elaborate. Thanks for the context — lets go!

    • +1

I think Mewmew said it best:

Cebu's like a lost donkey with free smiles.

I agree the seat configuration isn't ideal on a full flight but it is cheap! And half the time I've flown with them (SYD-MNL) I've managed to snag row of seats to myself or at least a free seat between my partner and I.

      • +1

The 3-3-3 config is great for maximising the number of beds

I've been Gold Coast to Tokyo 3 October's in a row for $350 return on jetstar free return sale

Waiting for it again next year

    • When are these flights on sale?

  • +5

Perhaps I am the only one that booked?

    04/09/23 MEL->MNL
    11/09/23 MNL->NRT
    18/09/23 NRT->MEL

One week in the Philippines and one week in Japan.

The only overnight flight is MEL->MNL.
NRT-MEL has 19-hour stopover but it gets to MNL at 5.10 pm and flies out at 12.30 pm the next day (which is an okay stopover imo)

No luggage, no food, no seat.

    $478.79

(Booked on the Cebu website; eventually).

    • +9

Standing is healthier for you, anyway

    • Howd you select these flights, muti city or japan return?

      • Multi city at Cebu website.

On my browser it only let me put in 2 legs in multi city but after finding the flights it let me add a leg.

        Imo it’s a glitch.

        • Yea i csnt seem to get it working, only a stopover for the return flight

        • Figured it out, but the $13 flight is gone now $433

          • @MrrMagic: MEL->MNL is cheap on Aug 21 and 23

            • @Eeples: My pricing still works on Aug 23, Aug 29 and Sept 6.

            • @Eeples: Yea says $13, goes to 179 when i click on it, then website crashes. I gave up

              • @MrrMagic: $179 is the cheap fare, then $70, then about $230 or something; for the 3 legs respectfully.

                • @Eeples: Yea, i cant book it. Continue it to get cant load website. Ill try in the morning.

                  • @MrrMagic: Some dodgy shit happening on thay website, my wifes phone lets me book 179 tickets. My phone they are now 449.

Im giving this a miss now.

  • what are the chances of direct japan fares from now til aug period from other airlines?

  • +1

wow cebupacific melbourne to tokyo, be ready to be disappointed with cancellations and ruin your life.
are they already operating in melbourne?

    • This is via MNL, the only direct services are with JAL

  • +4

    Need Perth to Japan

    • Before covid, Japan airlines had plans for a direct Perth to NRT service - I think they might be putting it back onto the table next year

  • I flew twice to the PH via Cebu in 2019 - had zero issues and went during typhoon season only to be greeted with great weather (mostly).

  • Haha. For those whinging about leg room, consider that Cebu Pacific is a budget airline that targets predominantly Filipinos - whose average height is ~5'2''/160cm… When i go back, i feel like a giant and i'm barely average height here 😅.

On another note, thanks OP, a bunch of my fam are wanting to visit next year, and this is a half decent deal (none of them will have trouble with leg room). Cheers

  • Terrible airline they cancel large numbers of flights without much notice. Do yourself a favour and go with a better airline

  • Has anyone flown with this airline consistently and have no issues.

    Price seems too good otherwise

  • Awful. Hold out for ANA.

  • To be honest, ANA won’t give out on sale fares until next year at the earliest. They are a premium carrier and their loads are fine as it is in O and J so there’s no real need to incentivise with Y sale fares as of yet.

  • +1

    Cebu Pacific = Avoid
Terrible experiences with them with cancellations and not offering alternatives a month before flight except refund

  • Great price, however, i really do not think i will fly with Cebu … personally

  • cant seem to see any results for 7th / 8th april
