JFF 2023 Presents: Mikio Naruse - An Unsung Master of Japanese Cinema
The Japanese Film Festival 2023 proudly presents this FREE series of rare 35mm film screenings of master filmmaker Mikio Naruse’s works at the Chauvel Cinema, Sydney.
The films featured in the series shine a light on Naruse’s poignant observation of the growing tension surrounding familial and societal conformities in a changing, post-war era of Japan–a theme that pervades the director’s remarkably crafted body of work.
From the 12th- 14th December the Chauvel Cinema in Sydney will screen Naruse's films:
- Floating Clouds - after this screening, join us for a special post-film talk event with Dr Mats Karlsson from The University of Sydney, who will discuss Floating Clouds in the context of Naruse’s filmography.
- Sound of the Mountain
- When a Woman Ascends the Stairs
- Yearning
Don't miss this chance to see these rare and masterful films on the big screen! Reserve your FREE tickets on the JFF website
