  • Does this have displaylink ?

    • It does not. Are you wanting to get it to work with a MacBook Air M1 or similar?

    • i thought people say displaylink isnt that good?

      • +1

It is if you have a Macbook with the M1 chip. Gotta run multiple monitors somehow.

        • Honestly I’m surprised how good recent display links are.
Even videos display smoothly on them

      • +1

It depends. Third dock, the tb16 uses thunderbolt 3 to talk direct to the hardware. Displaylink on the other hand uses software to drive it.

The advantage of displaylink is that it will work on anything that supports displaylink, but it comes at a huge performance cost.

Not so bad for office use or web browsing, but you won’t be playing any AAA gaming experiences via displaylink

  • What wattage does it charge the laptop at? Is it compatible with my 130W XPS15?

    • +1

"An included adapter powers the dock itself while providing up to 60W power via Thunderbolt 3 port to charge your laptop. "

      • Thanks for sharing, I had to search the page to locate that line under the fine print

      • No worries.

  • +3

Will not work with MacBook's! I tried when my company had a bunch of these.

purchased Dell Latitude 7490 back in sept. unforunately poor battery (less than 60%) and dirty grime so not really "refurb" more like "used" condition.
no reply in website support message.
you may have better milage, good luck.

Will work with Macbook, but can be annoyed.

    https://github.com/KhaosT/tb3-enabler

    However, there is a problem.
When Macbook awake from sleep, HDMI would not work.
You need to unplug and plug in HDMI again which could be annoying.

  • Will this work with the Surface laptop 4?

Some Reddit posts indicated Thunderbolt was a no go. But it's all USB-C to me.

    • Most likely not. The reasons are:

      • Surface laptop 4 appears to only support USB-C and it only supports basic alt-mode (I don't think it supports USB-C alt-mode MST).
      • Even if it supports MST (which I doubt), MST is a standard that Thunderbolt does NOT support (because Thunderbolt uses daisy chain).
      • While a Thunderbolt port on a laptop can support USB-C devices, the reverse is not always true (i.e. a Thunderbolt dock or enclosure does NOT work on USB-C port by default unless it is a newer Thunderbolt chipset with another chipset to do USB-C mode).
      • This one looks like uses Alpine Ridge chipset with a dated Texas Instrument chipset. Neither is really what you want (unless you are after something cheap for Thunderbolt).

If in doubt, don't buy Thunderbolt hubs, docks, or peripherals.

  • Can this work with Lenovo ThinkPad and/or Intel nuc laptop

    • According to Amazon.com.au reviews, seems hit and miss

  • Can this do 2 screens at 2560x1440 AND 3440x1440 at the same time??

  • Wondering why they have so many refurbs, maybe because so many people return these things.

    • Workplaces (and hardware) being made redundant.

  • The Dock has terrible reviews on Amazon even if you use it with a Dell, and worse with any other brand device.
