What is the battery life like on these used laptops? Looking at affordable options for primary school/high school. 16gb ram sounds good, don't want anything laggy.

    • The battery health is between 70-100%, with most of the stock having over 80%. The device runs smoothly without any lag, powered by a 10th-generation processor. Thanks

      • Thanks for the quick response. How quickly does battery life degrade over time from 100%?
Sorry just trying to work out if this is suitable.
If anyone else has any insights or advice for me and whether this is a good deal, it is much appreciated. Thanks

Edit: actually would it be too slow? Is ram a good indicator?

Isn't lag a result of RAM swapping? Can be an issue with 8GB and bloated apps like Chrome. Its not about the CPU.

BTW, there is bugger-all difference between 8th gen, and 10th gen Intel laptop CPUs:

        https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Core-i5-10310U-vs…

        • Hey thanks for your input. Just hoping this is enough for a school student who also plays roblox. I don't know how relevant 10th gen is to the performance overall, I just don't want a slow dinosaur for my kid. Your link helps. Hoping this one lasts for light to medium usage

          • @kaebomb: It'll be fine. Not the lightest or toughest out there, but you need not worry about the ram/cpu/storage specs. Latitudes are a safe buy.
You might save money buying 8th gen, as other people wrongly assume 10th is better.
But if you specifically want a 14" 2-in-1, go for it.

            • @bargaino: Thanks, I'm using a latitude 5420 provided by work and it's great but wasn't sure how this is as a standalone. I am looking for a 14" but don't need the touch so much, it's just a bonus if this does turn out to be a deal

@kaebomb: My kids have the 8th gen with the same iGPU as this 10th gen and it struggles with Roblox. The backgrounds don't render very well and has jerky movement. I'm looking for an 11th gen with the better iGPU. Our 2nd gen i3 with a GT1030 was much better at Roblox graphics.

            • @DJSmelly: That's really helpful, thanks! This is making me have second thoughts now. My kid played roblox on my latitude 5420 and had no issues but just realised it's 11th gen..

between 8th gen, and 10th gen Intel laptop CPUs
agree i knew that just few years back (before i assumed 10 is much better and almost bought one). intel really shocking.
plus, they put the same igpu from 8to10 gen.
          its borderline crime.
sellers charging high price for the 10th assuming people are not savvy enough

          • @CyberMurning: Yeah I'm not so savvy so I assumed 10th gen means better

            • @kaebomb: the proper sentence would be "10th gen means sooooooooo little better"

  • does this webcam support windows Hello facial login?

and are there room to add more memory and ssd ?

    • Hi, yes it does support facial login and SSD is expandable. Thanks

      • how about RAM ? is that soldered and how many slot if not ?

      • thanks for the quick response. may i ask what is the change of mind return policy? and is it for 30 days?

update - i missed the RAM query, is it soldered? if yes then is there spare slot?

  • when i will get this if i order today? NSW 2170 post code

    • All orders will be dispatched tomorrow. Delivery typically takes 2-3 business days, but delays occasionally occur due to postal services. Thanks

there are lots of this on ebay if you dont need touch have a look probably cheaper

Yes, you are right. Non-touch and fold, plastic-body models are available at slightly cheaper price.

Bought this for a primary school kid. I needed something that can fold 360 and have a touch screen. At her new school they are allowed to bring chargers, which is much better than another school where her brother went. At that school the kids were not allowed to bring chargers. It was a requirement that a BYOD device must last all day without recharging and Macs were not allowed. This new school still strongly discourages Chromebooks and Macs, but at least the kids can plug in their Windows laptops to get the job done even with a 2nd hand computer.

    • Yeah our public school doesn't allow chargers brought in either. It's only primary school so at least there is less usage but wondering how long it'll last with high school in a couple years

    • the kids were not allowed to bring chargers

Really? What was the rationale? I can only think of electrical safety or trip hazard.

I'm not a parent so pardon my ignorance, but it seems a bit unnecessary given that laptops that have all-day batteries often also have specs (and price tags) that are often beyond what I would have thought to be necessary for normal school use

  • I got a 7390 for free from work (no PSU) and I love it. The 7410 is just a slightly newer version that's a touch bigger.

Very nice machines and this is a reasonable price!

Don't recall if they have 1 or 2 dimm slots however.

    • I have a 7390 2in1, I believe it has soldered ram, I think the non-2in1 7390 version has a single ram slot though, so it can be upgraded…

I'm a big fan of these Dells also but the battery condition seems to drop off fast once they get below about 80% health apparently (very normal for all lithium batteries)… Mine was at 87% when I got it, I don't actually run it off the battery much so I set a charge profile in the bios so it only charges up to 80% rather than 100%, just to try and keep the battery good for the odd times I need it… (battery stays between 60-80% charge)… When I do need to rely on the battery I change the charge profile so it charges up to 95% and it has good life…. It's had a lot of use over the last year and the battery health is still at 87%…

Personally I wouldn't be happy if I purchased a refurb with a 70% battery, that's not far off end of life…. (Before this 7390 I purchased 2 similar aged Dells that came with batteries around 50% even though they were claimed to be 80+%, I returned both)

  • I got my 11th gen dell vostro for about $270 (had 8gb ram but when I upgraded myself it still came out cheaper). Could be worth looking on ebay first for some better deals.
11th gen is similar but has av1 decoding which may be useful if you use it for media use
