well at least it's not "open box" card, good price, tho can be lower imo.

    • +4

If stores have a lot of stock for 3070's then we can expect it to be lower, especially during Black Friday.

  • +11

Please don't buy it, let it rot

    • Why is that? Been HOLD-ing for 2 years patiently for 3070 to be below $700

      • +3

many got sour graped as Nvidia launched 4080 above $2k.

for 3070 under $700 is reasonable if you can afford it and if its worthy upgrade from whatever card you're using now.

HODLer been proving wrong time and again 'hoping' that price goes down to the 'level' of what they want, which is not happening.

        • Many HODLers already bought a lot of used cards off ebay. The 70+ 3070Ti for 550$ flew off the shelves in 2 days. So did several other cards.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: used cards, totally different market than brand new retail. used cards also depend on its individual condition.

            • @[Deactivated]: My reply for that below ;)

            • @[Deactivated]: They worry about mining cards disguised as regular used cards in China, may I ask why it doesn't seem like a big deal here?

              • @SnappyPenguin: it depends on the individual buyer, John Doh there doesn't seem to make a big deal out of ex abused mining card, he's no 1 supporter of miners but anti jensen Lol.

for me I'd rather buy brand new retail at higher price than ex miners card for longevity, warranty and support.

everyone has their own opinion and choice.

                • @[Deactivated]: Cool, thanks!

                • -2

@[Deactivated]: LOL, like you really know me. If you see my history me and non-LHR always used to have a fight. But I have to choose the lesser evil. For now its miners over Jacket.

    • Yup, dont give a cent to that Greedy jacket. Plenty of auctions on ebay for less with warranty remaining.

      • -1

buying on ebay means supporting those greedy ex-miners who already profited from crypto mining that caused all these debacle with gpu pricing.

at least jacket didn't cause the mining boom, he's just merely a coincidental partner.

        • Miners are gone, jacket is here to stay. Whom would like to teach the lesson to? The one who will keep selling cards for years with pricing increasing exponentially? or the one who have lost all money and faith in life?

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Jensen launched 3080 10GB at A$1139, it was the damn miners who inflated it to $2500.

Jensen didn not invent ETH, or crypto mining. The GPU were always have been a gaming and productivity card since 8800GT era.

Its those damn cryptos and the damn miners who runined the whole sheet.

            • @[Deactivated]: Come on boys we need to be unified. Let's be real, both entities are trash.

            • @[Deactivated]: Miners screwed. Gamers need to set it right. Screw NVIDIA. Buy used NVIDIA card or buy new AMD.

  • I wonder if two fan will be good enough for 3070..

    • +3

its enough, even for 3070 Ti.

    • Depends on how much noise you are able to tolerate.

  • -4

LHR should be priced 40% less than the normal cards… isn't that what it originally was intended to do (reduce performance by 40%) during the crypto coin mining boom?

    • +2

reduce performance for mining only, which no longer matter as crypto mining is over ages ago.

those who believe LHR reduces gaming performance or any other besides crypto mining is terribly misinformed.

      • i don't think you are reading what i'm writing properly.

the original intent of LHR marketed by Nvidia is that it reduces performance of mining by 40%.

the prices did not reflect that discount back then, it certainly did not reflect that discount right now.

mining or not is not the question here.

not sure why you are supporting the price gouging from nvidia. you certainly do not seem like you own a stake in their business.

        • +1

LHR cards were always NOT mean to reduce price by 40%, I don't know who told you that.

LHR intent was to reduce mining performance by half, which bypassed with LHR unlock up to 90% and then 100% in the last days of mining.

Stop accusing people of not reading properly, you said 40% less priced, which is NOT meant to be.

        • +1

LHR refers to lite hash rate, when the card detects that it's being used to mine crypto, it reduces mining performance by how much nvidia programmed it to (can't remember but it might be 50%). But that has nothing to do with the hardware, no cutting corners on anything compared to non-LHR, they are built the same, one has an extra piece of software.

          Does LHR Affect Gaming Performance?
NVIDIA's hash rate limiter doesn't affect any other aspect of GPU performance except crypto mining. No independent tests have been conducted about the difference in gaming performance between non-LHR and LHR GPUs.

Let all the RTX 3000 series and RTX 4000 rot on the shelf. Nvidia wants you to purchase the overstock and overprice 3000 series, so they can in future inflate the price of the 4000 series and beyond.
If you're a good Ozbargain hunter you should not promote BS like these.

    • +1

You can blame 4000 series and I'm there with you, however RTX 3000 have been getting more discounts lately and have gone below MSRP such as this 3070, If i had the budget I'd buy this in a heartbeat. The overpriced cards are RTX 4000.

It's like saying, "oh this company made 1 bad product, that's it, the rest of their products are trash".
Before the 4000 series, if you found a 3000 card at or below msrp everyone would be worshipping it.

      • +2

4080 is garbage price to performance ratio, most likely to keep 3080 price afloat on $1k level.

but that does not mean 3070 should NOW worth less than $500 brand new. Not until 4070 is released to whatever price it will be.

  • +1

I hope I'm not wandering too far off topic. But is the 3070 a good choice for a ultra wide monitor aiming for 144hz where possible or should I wait for a 3080 etc.(I generally play strategy, world builder, 4X and indie games rather than AAA)

Also for all the HODL talk, is this just until AMD release their new cards or are there CPUs coming down the line?

Basically I've been trying not to pay too much attention because I'll end up deciding I want something ASAP (am still on a 970). At the same time it's beginning to feel like I'll be hodling forever.

    • If ultra wide at 1440p then its a perfect choice, should deliver great performance. If 4k im not really sure.

    • 3080 prices have been pretty stubborn. Mwave also selling rx6800 xt for $888 (plus 2 games) which is very competitive against the 3080 depending on your choice of games. The 3080 is stronger in ray tracing, but not all games benefit and neither of those cards will max a 144hz monitor at 1440p-4k with RT anyway. So brute force raster (ala 6800 xt) would be my choice if I was desperate…were I not also waiting to see what the Radeon 7000 series does to the market!

      • Thanks so much. It's a 3440 x 1440 so less demanding than 4k. I'll check out reviews on the rx6800xt

  • +1

I've not been following GPU's recently however I thought everyone was waiting for the new AMD cards to drop, see how it effects the prices?

  • Looks like it is out of stock at Mwave.

What's a good alternative?, my son is after one for a gaming PC build (his first one). Not across GPU's in the gaming space so what do AMD have that is similar?

Don't what to spend more than $700, any other recommendations?

    • Thanks for the heads up. Expired the deal.

For AMD I can recommend you 2 cards, below your budget you can pickup a 6700 XT for only $599 and only about 10% less performance than a 3070 but for 15% less expensive it has a better price to performance ratio.

For $749 however, you can get an RX 6800 that is roughly 10% faster for about 8% more expensive, again great price to performance.

These numbers apply to 1080p and 1440p, its much less in 4k :)

      • Thanks for the advice!
