  • Title should say Surface Laptop Go 2. The Surface Go series is a convertible tablet.

    Meh Microsoft rubbish.

Better off with something from Lenovo.

Copied from my previous comment on Surface laptop go (gen 1) - Only a CPU refresh, every other specs is almost identical.
    Pros -
-Extremely portable for a "full feature" laptop, 12.5 inch @ 1.1kg. The form factor is perfect for carrying in one hand - remind me of Mac 12.
-Screen is very good quality overall, contrast and brightness and colour reproduction. I have a colour calibrated Dell Ultrasharp, and it doesn't fall shy. Ultra slim bezel makes this very modern.
-Keyboard, speakers, camera, fit and finish is of higher quality than laptop of similar price. Comparable to $1500 laptop - Think similar to MacBook.
-Touch is surprising useful in certain scenario. e.g. I kept finding myself frequently physically selecting items on screen when I am standing.

    Cons -
    - I only get about 4-5 SOT when doing ZOOM, maybe slightly more juice if I only browse/office with lower screen brightness.
    - The port selection is JUST enough, 1 USB-C, 1USB, and a headphone Jack! Can also charge via the USB-C instead of Microsoft proprietary port.
    - I had my reservation of 1536 x 1024 resolution, but the aspect ratio makes up for it. My old Dell E7240 has 12.5inch 1080P, and I didn't notice any operational differences between the two.
    - Dont buy this other than office/school, you will be disappointed with the mid-range 15W i5/8g/128GB.
    - NO surface pen support, I can understand however at this price for a laptop.

Overall, I don't think there is a direct competitor at this price range <$1000AUD.
I was very happy to find this as a direct replacement to my Dell E7240 i5/8g/128GB 12.5in touch which I paid $1000 8Years ago. Which is eerily similar at so many levels.
The Surface go laptop form factor, build quality and price is just right for the price.
Edit: Given this is the best price ATM for Gen 2, I dont think it will get significantly cheaper anytime soon. So buy if this suits your need

  • Will this be good for high school BYOD?
