One of the few good movies recently hands down.

    • Smile and Barbarian recently were both really enjoyable. Though in terms of recent good big budget movies, yeah, Top Gun was really it for me this year, though I did enjoy Black Panther 2 a good deal.

Honestly horror is one of the few genres you actually see any real innovation at the moment, never used to be into horror, but things like those two, Ready or Not, Freaky, X, and others of that vein in recent years have really spun me around on it. There's definitely plenty of good movies coming out, just not a shitload of note from the big studios at the moment.

If you have a good home theatre system this is reference material, this is an awesome reference movie to enjoy it.

  • Loved this movie

  • how is the sound from physical disc? does it support ATMOS ?

  • FYI: My Prime free delivery is showing Wed 23 November.

The two movie set is also on sale and goes down to 32 with the $10 perk voucher, so I bought that instead.

Silly question but what perk code? What and how do I use this to drop it from $27 ?

  • This being a 2 disk set, what's on the 2nd disk? Is this where you need to stop and change disks halfway though the movie or is it 'bonus' material on the 2nd disk?

    • +1

One is the 4k version, one is the HD bluray with features.
The only films that require changing discs off the top of my head are 4 hours+ movies (e.g., LotR and Hobbits extended editions).

  • Picked up the Top Gun & Top Gun: Maverick UHD combo for $31.99 after using my $10 perk, thanks for the heads up OP.

  • So I haven't used or watched a DVD in years, just stream from Netflix/Disney+/Plex/etc.

Whats the best player for something like this? Will a PS5 provide a good experience? Or do I need a dedicated player? I've got a good TV (65" C1) and sound (Q990).

    • +1

      I use a dedicated 4k player,

I bought this two years ago and works well,

      • ok great, thanks Rod M!

OK so you have a soundbar so that's not really going to factor into things too much as they are pretty average even for expensive ones compared to a proper surround system. So what you need to look at is the video side of things, your TV supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG so you need to find a player that supports those formats. I actually have the same player as Rod M mentioned below which works well for me, but I will eventually upgrade this to something with dolby vision. You also may need to look at dual HDMI outs as well, although as already stated your soundbar would be limited so you using ARC from your TV would be fine. Ensure you connect your player to the TV direct, not via the soundbar. And make sure your HDMI cable is 2.1 compatible.

      • thanks, appreciate the insight!

    • This is sale at the moment too: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737776

Definitely worth the extra coin IMO over UB150 linked above.

  • Damn it I just bought this a week ago for almost twice that much. Oh well, it is a great movie so worth it to me.
