The Square (2008 Australian Movie) Free to Watch with Ads @ SBS On Demand

61

saying it again with V _ _ you can watch it ad free.
also if you experience quality drops and that turns you off, I found starting the movie->tapping->then selecting settings and choosing 720p forces the quality to stay the same. if you have low speed internet this can help force 720p (and stop it from occasionally dropping to 480p).

expiring in 2 months. directed by Nash Edgerton. a drama with some tension, mystery and a few thrills.

this is the best aussie movie I have ever seen. well made, keeps you hooked, relatable because of aussie accent, tradies, construction managers and crims etc.

and I know the bar isn't high in general for aussie movies, the only ones I liked were this, Animal Kingdom and The Dry (1st movie).
but The Square in my opinion is great, almost perfect in my opinion. yes I know it's subjective and I am not an expert looking at what camera lens they used etc, but as a movie, a story it's great and I recommend you catch it before it expires.

An adulterous couple's plan to steal from the woman's criminal husband goes wrong, which leads them down a path of blackmail, arson, and murder.

SBS is always "free" (depending if you ever pay any taxes or not, but lets not get into that).

So what's the deal / bargain here?

    • forgot to mention it in the post, but the places it's currently available is only if you pay. https://www.justwatch.com/au/movie/en-lieu-sur (the crunchyroll bar is an ad btw)

also I have seen SBS renew the license for a couple movies, but it's officially expiring so if it isn't renewed it's last time to catch it for free (with ads or without ads with a V _ _) for now, unless it gets added again.

      • Hmm some acrobatical skills there I'll give you that.

I still get ads on SBS when using a VPN. Feel free to DM me how to avoid the ads (assuming that's what V _ _ means and assuming you are censoring yourself because it's verboten to discuss any deals to get 100% off on ads seen).

acrobatic? sorry I didn't get it. do you mean you weren't expecting an honest answer?

sorry most of the time I include the info in my previous comment at the top of the post description but this time I forgot.

yes well I haven't tested it right now this second, but I watched a SBS movie a few days ago and no ads as always (it's been that way for years now) not even an interruption, so it's basically a free service for me (well tbf 720p max free service). I'm using a lifetime license for my VPN app which I got for free many years ago (this was before all the popular ones like Nord/Surfshark/ExpressVPN became mainstream).

I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to explain how it works exactly. but yes I can spoof my location (I only have 4 options though) and I am pretty sure the thing blocking the ads is the "tracker/ad blocker" function of the VPN app. so the same way ads are blocked on say, "news.com" page the SBS ads get blocked the same way, because I think they are using old ad tech. they will probably update their tech eventually though.

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Thanks. I'll check out what if any ad blocking features my VPNs have available and see.

            acrobatics

was referring to the logic of it being a "deal" just because…

it's officially expiring so if it isn't renewed it's last time to catch it for free

With that logic I could list almost everything sold anywhere on Obzargain just because prices tend to go up over time (inflation). So if you don't buy everything within the next few months you'll have to pay more later. Therefore "deal"?

okay but you are still paying either way? while this requires no payment. worst case sit through a few ads.

it's ok I get that you disagree it's not a deal. and all I can do is give reasons why I recommend watching it before it expires.

I have no problem with you commenting on my deal. it's your opinion and I am fine with that. I wouldn't have a problem if you bad voted it or reported it either.

(I also notice a lot of deals posted which are just regular amazon price drops or slightly higher, but I have no real energy to call out every one and look it up on camels and say so. so that's just how I see it it's just how it is, users that don't like it can just express their opinion it's fine).

@tenpercent: Unfortunately that's the case now on OB, anything is being listed out of control. No idea what the posters gain in doing this.

            • @tenpercent: Just use an adblocker on PC, setup Kodi with some add-ons if you have a google TV etc.

People can scroll past if things aren't a deal. Change the settings so you don't see subscription/streaming deals. Agree though there is barely any censorship about what is posted. People keep posting the same shit from Coles and Woolies every Wednesday.

I'd express it as: yes, SBS On Demand is always "free", but the movie isn't always at SBS On Demand. They have the rights to it for a limited window. At other times it tends to be on paid subscription streamers.

We all pay taxes, it's called GST.

The Dry 2, wasn't set in the dry.

    • I was expecting it to be even dryer than the first one. A 'Dry Hard' style sequel.

What is the deal here? It's got ads on a free to air channel.

  • TV Shopping Network is free too and there's even content between the ads

    https://www.itvsn.com.au/tvsnnow/tvguide

    • Thanks for the heads up, how come you haven't posted this deal yet? You should do it before OP does

  • Adguard free DNS works perfectly with SBS, no need for a VPN.

    • not exactly sure what DNS is but yes that is a function of my VPN app.

I would change the note in deal from V _ _ to D N _ but like me I don't think many people will recognize what a DNS is.
