A pretty standard AV receiver at a decent price. Grab this + some used speakers and you are going to have an amazing sounding home theatre system. At $400 its not the cheapest price ever, but the days of $200 HTR seem to be over

  • Be careful as Yamaha has left this in HDCP2.2. A bit unacceptable as most brands moved on in 2018.

    • Can you elaborate on this, something to do with copyright issues ? Would it have issues playing media from a plex server

HDCP is a sneaky content protection that the Hollywood studios forced on us. But now its here, all devices need to have the same level to do a "handshake". If they are not compatible, then the picture/sound quality goes down a level. Right now its HDCP 2.3 instead of 2.2. Just one extra thing you need to care about and keep out with that lot.

      • Would it have issues playing media from a plex server

NO, this only apply if media (as in Blu-ray, or streaming services etc) released with 2.2+ protected contents, and playing them to TV. Media that on your plex server (stuff you download off internet, protection is already removed)

    • It's almost like this model came out in 2017

    • +1

Nothing to worry, even HDPC 2.2 still not fully applied, lets alone 2.3.
Plus this is a $399 AV receiver not $2000.

  • Is this a good option to go with a PS5?

    • It'll be fine as long as your TV has arc and you aren't expecting features like atmos

I’ve got this receiver and would not recommend

Each time when switching between sources or codecs (I.e. when just scrolling through Netflix and the trailer auto plays) it’ll make a huge pop/chirp noise through the speakers

Unsure if it’s cheap electronics in the unit
