  • Cool. I wouldn’t want one, but that is a bargain. +1

Is it network locked? use to work for company uses these and the voip company would not release the admin password which required to change SIP details

    • Even if they are "network locked" it is very easy to factory-reset them (and clear out the CTL).

So these just need a PoE router ?

And a server running Cisco Call Manager I think

      • +1

I have 7965G, 7970 and 9971 at home and I have them talking to FreePBX and they work just fine.

Thats it im starting my own scam call centre.

Yes your amazon account got compromised.
But i dont have an amazon account?
Just trust me. Your account is compromised.

All you need to do so i can reimburse you is to log me in your bank account.

Did I mention I have "Lenny" enabled? ;)

            • @sanmigueelbeer: Im sure theres plenty gullible ones out there.

              • @xoom: Well you know, since you since you put it that way, you have been quite friendly and straight forward with me here, errm, hello? hello? Are you there? Errr. yes, sorry. I have a bit of a bit of a problem with this phone and and my hearing it's not so good. Errm, yes, errm… Sorry, what were you saying again?

                Lenny Reddit page

                • @sanmigueelbeer: You do know these scammers make hundreds if not thousands of phone calls a day. I will almost guratantee you not all will know or have known of this lenny.

All they gotta do is manage to scam 1 person in every few hundred or every 1k calls to make it worth it.

There are heaps of money to be had or else these lowlifes wont be in it.

                  Sad but true.

Yuck, this phone reminds me of when I used to work in an office.
Even the colour of that god awful table makes me wanna hurl.
I would buy it just to burn it.

    • +4

Agreed, the ringtone also gives me PTSD. Sometimes I hear it ringing in my head when I'm asleep

      • +10

Memories of Kiefer Sutherland and 24?

        • +1

Impressive! 24 is my favorite TV show

          Jack Bauer!!!!!

        • I was just going to call it the 24 phone.

I pretty much associate this Cisco phone with Jack Bauer.

Getting a mental image of you in foetal position. Rocking back and forth chanting…. make it stop. Make it stop.

        • I recall there's a setting that you can change the ring length. I think I set mine to like 5seconds? Default was like 30secs

          • @Homr: I have a similar one to these in the office. Yes it does have that setting.

            • @xoom: I also change the ring volume to lowest too

              • @Homr: We use to prank our colleague and set theirs to highest volume setting for maximum PTSD.

                • @xoom: It's always great to just hit Redial as you walk past your colleague's desk.

Who knows who it's going to ring ? But you soon find out, cos it's on Speaker 😁

                  • @Nom: Ah the good old office shenanigans.

  • I do not see any option for postage. It says pickup only.

  • I'll figure out how to use it later. Free postage with Plus to Melbourne Metro. Why not.

    • Good for an intercom in the toilet

    • That's what I thought too so I ordered it and then it says local pickup in my order :( Oh well, only 4 bucks.

    • How did you get free postage with eBay plus? I'm not seeing it

    • updated: not free postage. That was just in my head. Pick up as the title says.

These would end up being just paperweights if you don't have Cisco Call Manager running at your business. At one of my past work places they had about 100 of these (and 7965s) but could not give away even for free after advertising on Gumtree and the Marketplace for many weeks. At the end the whole lot had to be dropped off at a IT recycling place for free.

Just like any other Cisco enterprise kit, replacing with brand new becomes cheaper after 5 or so years of use rather than continuing to renew smartnet for old hardware so no one would want these second hand.

    • +1

I was going to get some for my daughter to play with

    • That's a shame. A fully featured telephone with an LCD screen for $1 would be a steal, even in 2022. Back in the 90's people would be going crazy over these.

A lot of people have Cisco phones configured for FreePBX. I have managed to change my the wallpaper and the ringtones to my Cisco phones (7965G, 7970, 9971) at home.

I even have Lenny enabled which have effectively stopped me getting scam calls since 2019!

Yes, they are ugly and they look very old but the 7945/7965/7975 has outlived/outlasted our newer 78xx, 88xx phones.

      • +3

That's the road I was going down. I'm already using freePBX as rasPBX and I thought my daughter would get a kick out of having a few phones around the house she could call when she's playing with her friends. Would probably end up driving me crazy though TBF

These are built like absolute tanks. At a previous workplace, one chap used to smash them off people's desks with a basketball - never broke one though.

      • The problem is that the Cisco phones often have little quirks in SIP mode, and the provisioning can be a little annoying. Something like a yealink is far easier to get working with FreePBX.

  • +7

Does it have band 28? ;)

2009 called and they want their phone back.

    • +6

The 1990s just called, and they want their joke about earlier decades calling back.

  • +2

A quick search for CP-7945G asterisk suggests that you could repurpose the phones.

Now if you could 3D print a rotary dial that would be a conversation piece.

  • It's postage only. No more pickup.

    • Weird. When I logout I can choose pickup options. Just not when I use my eBay account. Weird.

  • +1

That photo is giving me flashbacks to my corporate days. Pretty sure if I heard that ringtone again it would send me into a panic attack!

    • There was always that one guy that turned up the volume and was always away in meetings.

  • I’d love to get a few of these for my home lab but I’m in Sydney so can’t get them. Does anyone know if there’s a delivery service that can collect and deliver these to Sydney?

Edit: nvm, there’s an option for postage too.

  • had our IT guys put an image on the screen so i went for "Grover is all over" from sesame street….laughed every time someone called.

  • This is going to be great for roleplay night with the misso

    • +1

Why make it roleplay. You heard of them 1902 numbers? They charge a fortune. Set one of them up and rake in the dollars.

  • bad juju, probably came from a call centre AKA modern day slave centre

  • Bought 3 for $22, postage doubles on the 4th

  • +1
  • hahah , if they can sell me the CUCM as well on top , i'll go for it…lol
although there is SIP firmware for it as well if not mistaken

  • Nothing like work vibes at home

  • I have one in a box in the shed somewhere. I did have it connected to mynetphone and it worked, but that's in the past. Although I have an ATA for a landline with ABB now I doubt that we've had a genuine landline call in years other than scams.

  • There are 2 different firmwares, SIP and SCCP (Skinny). If they're Skinny (which they almost certainly are) you'll need a CUC setup, if they're SIP you can probably use them with FreePBX / 3CX / Asterisk / possibly direct to a SIP provider.

If they're Skinny and you want to update them or convert them to SIP you'll need an active support agreement with Cisco for this model of phone to download firmware.

My guess is these phones are EoL, so even if you did have a CUC it might be too new and not able to provision the handsets (deprecated support)

tl;dr is they're basically ewaste and now worth $1

    • Sounds too complicated to make it worth while.

      • SIP firmware download link
        https://cti-solutions.com/downloads/cmterm-7945_7965-sip.9-2…
If you require it use TFTP to install

      • Sounds too complicated to make it worth while.

Cisco phones, like those that run on Enterprise image, are the most difficult brand of phones to integrate to Asterisk. Particularly the 79xx and 99xx, they are solid with stable firmware.

  • No option for postage ?

  • As good as landfill
