    lol

    • That’s what I thought, but the tech involved is pretty interesting.

Oy. The cable is nearly as expensive as the monitor

If you're pushing the limits on these cables then your setup is not going to be cheap.

Haha - Monster cables are back!

Gerry says you need Carbon (Monster) cables

TBH it is pretty hard to find a cable over 10 foot that actually does do 4K @ 120hz.

    "Certified" cables most often dont.

    • +1

That's it really. You probably don't need such an expensive cable if you are only going a metre or two. When you start going beyond 3m you really notice the difference. I tried using a 3m HDMI cable we had lying around to do 4K @ 60hz and it failed straight away. Ended up getting some expensive cables that went a bit above what I needed to try to future proof my setup a little.

      • Yep I really need 5m 4k @ 120hz for my setup. 10 feet works fine on anything decent.

However 15 feet I am yet to find a cable under $100 that actually works (HDMI not displayport). I find Displayport tends to work better over longer distances than HDMI, but TVs dont support Displayport…

Tried at least a dozen brands on Amazon and EBAY, 80% of them certified. It doesn't matter, they don't work. Includes Monoprice.

Read a lot about cases like yours after the 3m one failed and I had to get 5m as well so I made sure I got a good one. I didn't want to faff about trying all the different cables trying to save a few bucks as I had already put down quite a lot of money for my setup.

@ozbs25: In the 90's and 2000's they used to make longer cables with fat ass noise filters. I am talking HDMI and VGA etc.

The noise filters actually made a significant difference. You no longer see those filters.

I think ACTIVE fibre optic is the best chance over 10 feet for 4K @ 120hz or 8K @ 60hz.
An active HDMI cable is only one way though, so you cant use eARC if you are going HDMI ?

I got laughed at for posting optical audio cables a week or so ago, but they are useful for feeding sound from TV inputs 4K @ 120hz to your receiver. 15m or 25m runs for optical audio are no issue at all.

Have found plugging most devices into the TV directly reduces required cable lengths for them - then just the optical audio to the receiver to still get 7.2 sound.

I've tried multiple brands of 10m optical DP cables and have never been able to get them to work at 4K 120Hz HDR.

Giving this one a go, wish me luck!

Please let us know how it goes.
Would be nice to have some options in mind if I ever need to go down this path. 😀

      • It works!

        • That's awesome to hear. 🥳

I'm keen to know your result too

Looking at the pricing, in the cost per metre the 50m cable looks great value. I like my cables long, but 50m is probably a little too long for my needs.

I am a little surprised they only offer a 5 year warranty on their cables @ this price.

To be fair, if it survives installation it should last 50 years. I don't think warranty would bother me

Im interested in these cables to move my pc to another room in summer, it doesnt make sense to cool a room that i am pumping heat into vs the cost of relocating the PC , IF , these cables work.

Linus Tech has done a few videos using optical Thunderbolt cables and docks however they have reliability issues and are 500usd+ just for the cable, the docks can exceed 500USD too + you need a compatible motherboard/pcie card.

He recently moved to separate optical DP cables + optical USB, these DP cables are well below comparable prices and the USB-C cable below seems like it should do the trick
