Wonder if prices will get to afterpay day levels on GPU's, I'm over waiting.

    • hopefully!

    • Been holding back forever…. but black friday and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Dec 13th is just around the corner.

      • +1

Question is, will it be better to buy a GPU on Black Friday, or when the 7900 drops a clue weeks later 😬

        • +2

Best time to buy is next year sometime.. once the economic hurt starts to really kick in

        • +1

I'm leaning towards when the shit hits the fan for Nvidia, the 7900 XTX is looking like a 4080 TI for $200 USD less than the 4080.

    • are we still doing HOOOOOOOOOLD?

      • -1

Ideally you'd be best to hold till roughly March when every GPU from the upcoming gen has dropped. I feel like they're really gonna stretch out the duration of this gen's release to offload the insane amounts of overstock retailers appear to have of the previous gen.

        • Ideally you'd be best to hold till roughly March

          2023, 2024 or 2025?

  • Here’s the T&Cs page

  • +4

Offering discounts exclusive to scummy BNPL services should be illegal. I’d rate it the same as betting ads during sporting events.

    • +1

      Agree. PaintOad for PM!

    • +14

The way I look at it. I dont mind exploiting BNPL services for my own gain. I generally just pay out the amount immediately after the purchase anyway, and wouldnt ever use them for actual purchases outside of these discounted events. Its those regular purchases where they are actually going to make a profit.

        • +16

Well, to be honest BNPL has been existing for a long time in one form or others, in a way the current wave of startups is better than the old scummy no interest payments run by Gerry and his associates. They're all bleeding money so it's just a matter of time before most being bought out leaving only one or two left. So just jump in and get some bonus before the market fixes itself.

        • +15

We should ban credit cards too by your logics. Many people are struggling to pay it off but still using them….

        • +1

Yeah I think BNPL for property should be illegal aswell.

      • +6

Same with credit cards, people on ozb aren't really the target market since they've never paid a cent of interest and only use it for the bonus offers and don't hold long term.

        • -7

Not the same. Credit card companies do credit checks to mark sure the person can actually afford the line of credit they are taking out.

          • +3

@PainToad: I believe Zip actually does too - it got mentioned during a recent refinancing

          • @PainToad: That's really not what credit check does and how banks are using them but ok if it helps you sleep at night…..

          • @PainToad: Eh I was more supporting furyz's point about ozbargainers not really being the ones likely to be in financial dire straits or bad with credit.

Don't BNPL make the bulk of their money from the retail store fees and commissions? Thought a lot of them have been having financial issues for years as they don't actually get most of the money back from late payment fees etc ('bad debts') so can't imagine them relying on that as the main source of revenue.

          • @PainToad: BNPL is no different to a credit card nowdays.

      • +2

I like to split payments with Afterpay so I can get 4 payments ticked off my monthly spend requirements with banks like ING etc. good thing is Afterpay mandate no surcharges, so no payment fees if they’re offered at places like shopping express, umart, etc, when checking out with Afterpay.

      • +3

This. I don't get all the bagging of BNPL on OzB. Just use them for the discounts and deals that they offer and don't worry about what others are doing. We live in a capitalist, free market country and how you conduct your financial affairs is your issue and nobody else's. BNPL is just another form of financial service. If it did not exist, people who are going to borrow money when they can't afford it are still going to borrow money somehow - it's the nature of the beast. The alternative is government regulating all credit to the point where it becomes unviable - and only an a**hole (or socialist (same thing really)) would want that.

        Just think for yourself.

Personally, I use them whenever they offer a good deal - and have no qualms doing so. I pay them off straight away anyway if there is any kind of fee/debt involved.

    • i just sign up to get the discount. then pay for all instantly. I did with Afterpay to get the 20-25% on items i wanted. But would never use the service for paying later.

    • There's a option to remove all deals with BNPL label, so it doesn't show up. Maybe you can do that if you don't like it.

  • Is there any clever workaround to get this discount without having to set up a zip account? Obviously it's not live yet, but based on previous promotions I mean

    • +2

A while ago, you could bypass Afterpay in the Afterpay-specific promos by covering the full amount with gift cards, but now, I think, you need to pay at least a part of it using the BNPL service. So, you could cover most of it with gift card and pay minimally with Zip, but you'd still need to use Zip, unfortunately. (Then again, that was Afterpay, so I don't know whether Zip would be any different.)

      • +1

Forcing people to take out an unnecessary line of credit despite them having the funds available is just a disgusting business practice.

        • -6

Friggen oath. It’s unethical and predatory.

Can we get OzB to ban this type of promo? It’s clearly a debt trap aimed at the vulnerable. Well, not clearly, but it’s at minimum huuuuuge coincidence they are the ones that end up exploited by this crap and we should be looking out for them.

          • @sickaunt: That's a bit extreme don't you think! I personally use BNPL deals when they come up - as I'm sure many others on OzB do too. There's nothing wrong with them IMO. If it's on offer and the deals good, I'll use it. If not then who cares. Works for me.

Credit is a cornerstone of a capitalist economy and nobody is forced to use it. There are lots of forms of credit that are out there that may not offer the best deal or are a bit dodgy - pay day loans, low doc loans, high interest credit cards etc. I don't regard BNPL as exploitative but people getting involved need to know their limits and what the terms are. All that info is available. There's so much ignorance about finance out there it's not funny - but there's also a lack of personal responsibility. And modern society condons and encourages this outlook. Bizarre.

        • +2

I tried to sign up with OpenPay for the extra discount on MyDeal the other day - extra $10 last week, I can pay it all off immediately anyway .. what's the harm? But I wasn't able to authenticate with my cards, and no way am I sending photos of my cards or myself holding them to verify. Tried to close the account, but that seems to have stalled, and their support staff have been no help. It's just not worth the risk or headache.

          • @Finner: It's almost impossible to close an openpay account, I had mine closed 3 times with confirmation but as soon as you login it's reactivated.

        • +1

No one's forcing you to use the discount most likely funded by the bnpl.

      • Thanks for info. Probably, Zip would be similar to Afterpay

  • +4

Zip’s referral bonus is $20 now. Good timing if you want to sign up Zip I guess…

    • who gets the $20? both or just the person that referred?

      • Both.

  • Does Zip do credit check? The t&c says it does, but does it?

    • +2

      Credit Provider:
      ZIPMONEY P/L
      Reason For Enquiry:
      Personal Loan (Revolving)

it does when i signed up few years ago

    • They do but it's a one off unless you opt for zip money, which will impact on your credit limit just like latitude pay.

    • Does not do it for everyone

  • -6

Shame this is bnpl, I want a GPU, but I'd prefer paying the extra 15% than setting up an account

    • -2

Same. Bnpl is just another debt trap for the vulnerable.

    • +6

Against the ozbargain spirit… things people do for a $2-$3 cashback but you won’t get something for 15% off hmm.

  • Seems like you cant stack with the existing coupons as you need to use XZIP15 for certain listings only … so most likely pretty useless.

    • +3

15% off is useless….yeah sure thing. Probably forgetting a lot of us are holding on to 10% gift cards.

      • You might be able to pay 99% of it with gift cards and still checkout $1 with zip to pass the coupon.

      • Guess we only know when we see the offer for which items it works - maybe it only works on the ones you anyhow got a 22% discount before. We only find out if this is a deal when we know a bit more …

      • +1

how is everyone getting these 10% off gift cards?

        • time machines, son

  • Let's see if there are any good "Eligible Items"

    • +1

haha yeah seems to always be the stuff no one wants

    • I think with Afterpay and Zip, most of the stuff is included. Exclusions would be coins and stuff.

    • AirPods Pro Gen 2 would be a good deal with the Zip 15% off, if it counts as an eligible item
It should come down to $330.65, sold by Wireless1 eBay

      • Yep lookong at Apple from there too. Only question will be, aside from price jacking, is there any way to pay with gift cards while still getting the discount, and if so… where can I get some gift cards…

  • +2

    robot lawnmower deals?

  • +2

    apple iphone deal?

  • Will ZIP run credit check when register the account?
If UDM-PRO eliglibe will consider to register one, even not like BNPL…..

  • If my Zip balance is $1000, can i purchase something >$1000 and simply pay out the remainder, or does the entire purchase need to be within this limit?

    • We will know tomorrow.

    • Probably limited by the zip balance

      • +1

You can use eBay gift cards to bring the total to your zip limit

  • Eligible item: a used sock.

  • So are any items eligible? Like what's the go?

    • Yes, the link on OP post now have items in there

  • Sad, want to purchase something for $1500 but balance is only $1000

Guess it doesn’t work like a credit account where you can send money to the card for excess balance on top of your credit limit

    • you can buy ebay gift cards from anywhere (or shopback for some extra cashback), use it on ebay to bring the total amount to less than $1000 and then use your zip

      • Thanks, I’ll check it out

EDIT: are ShopBack eBay gift cards digital delivery or physical cards? Can’t seem to find much info on delivery format.

        • +1

digital delivery. you get it instantly within the app itself.

  • +3

I thought this was a genuine 15% off with lots of items eligible. Instead it's one of the garbage discounts for overpriced items with a very limited selection. Nice joke Zip/ebay.

    • +1

Just tried to buy some fish food that wasn't listed and the code was still applicable so maybe try it?

  • Works on private sellers as well 👍
Don’t use the default search link. Use my instruction in my other posts for these kinds of promos:

Q: How to find out eligible sellers/items?

A: Do a search on the item you want, the resulting listing should show the "eligible" ones with 15% off with coupon. Max $300 off alongside them.

    • I'm not able to find any private sellers that are eligible.

For me that message only appears next to listings from stores.

      • Appearing on many private sellers’ camera gear items I searched.

  • +9

Just used this. You can use the voucher and pay 100% of remaining amount using gift cards.

    • -1

Are you sure? Does not seem to be able to do so.

      • Yes I'm sure.

    • Do you mean without using zip at all?

      • -1

Yeah ronnknee says '100%'. Does not seem to be the case.

    • +4

      I confirm also.

I put item into cart, applied code XZIP15 (15% discount applied), selected ZIP payment method at the top, input gift cards to cover entire order, once I did that the ZIP payment method at the top greyed out and I was able to submit order with $0.00 owing. Looks like the Afterpay loophole isn't closed yet

      • +1

        Exactly this.

      • Ditto just now with 3% gift cards from shop back

    • Thanks! I did the same successfully even over two gift cards. No Zip account required to be set up.

Samsung q990b for $1189.15 is pretty good value

  • Will this work on Surface pros?

  • The Intel NUC M15 (current generation) is going for $1,350.65

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/403886944416

Very good value if you want a 15inch laptop with touch display and a sturdy aluminium chassis. However you'll need to get some eBay gift cards if your Zip limit is less than $1k.

  • Need a lot of eBay gift cards cheap. Any promotion anywhere to get them? Can’t find anything.

    • nada

last deal like this was 10% off https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/732484

when people swapped TCN Gift to Ebay

      • The $50 denominations are too small for the purchase I want. Might suck but I guess ill use a coles $250 with 3% from shopback…

        • you said ebay gift card

          • @Poor Ass: eBay has a limit of 8 codes/gift cards per transaction. So with $50 denominations, it would only allow a maximum of $350 purchase with the current deal.

            • @ATangk: ya I know that but what's that got to does with coles $250?

what ya buying, maybe I can help you out

              • @Poor Ass: He’s using his Coles MC Gc to purchase eBay gc from Shopback….

                • @uwuwu: I see… i've already used all mine as they get hacked

            • @ATangk: today I paid with 8xGC+ZIP, so total 9 codes, not sure if this zip code is not counted as coupon code. forgot to test if 9th GC would work.

  • Let's wait for AFTERPAY 20% instead. PS: I don't have ZIP

  • Waiting for other deals; Zip is not for me with all those fees and credit check.
