[Box Damaged, eBay Plus] Sony A80K OLED TV 65" $2999, 77" $5449 Delivered @ Sony eBay

530
PLUSFLASH3

Couple of good deals on the 2022 Sony A80k OLED TV. I think they're both at (or close to) lowest prices to date. Current pricing in store $3795 and $6995 respectively.

Obviously Black Friday is coming up, but I don't think Sony has been as aggressive in the past with the likes of LG and their OLED offerings (?).

77": https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284985072027
55" also going for $2069.10: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284937028384

Note, both are listed as 'box damaged'. I haven't purchased a Sony Ebay box damaged item; however many users here have and reported the items are brand new and packaging in almost perfect condition - just a way to reduce their tax bill or something like that…. Standard manufacturer warranty applies.

Only 4x available of each. Mods, not sure that applies as 'insufficient quantity' but I know with the 65", Sony has topped up the quantity a couple of times now when it got to only one or 2 remaining.

Cheers

Sony Education still one of the top 3 deals of 2022

    • Yes.. We all wish for it's return

      • +11

Interesting, so many students can afford 6k TVs lol

        • They're all 4k TVs

          • +3

@TEER3X: Was talking about the price $6,000

            • +3

@xoom: Wow paying 6k to only get 4k? Doesn't seem like a deal to me.

              • @OZKap: It is 83" of 4k though.

              • +1

@OZKap: 6k is too far to walk carrying a 65" TV

    • It was a great deal. The 65 A80J I got then is going beautifully

Are we still boycotting Sony because of their terrible after sales service e.g. after they drop off the TV if you open it comes cracked they take no responsibility and say you did it?

    • +3

Haha hearing this forced me to record 30m of footage of me setting up my Samsung TV earlier this year.

      • +1

Hope the footage was continuous from delivery to setup others you broke it lol

Samsung should be alright for warranty

        • Yea coincidentally, the Samsung TV I initially bought actually suffered a failure, it was actually a faulty One Connect box, so the whole unit was replaced.

I only recorded from opening of the box to setup of the TV, including turning it on.

      • +1

Good move, they are horrible, took four months for them to refund a faulty tv after sending broken replacement parts and new tv with broken screen. First tv failed after four weeks.

    • +1

Not sure about that but on the day of my last purchase, their tracking showed it was "delivered". But the map showed it was in the middle of a paddock next to a railway line, 20kms away. I rang them and they had no idea where it was. It was even signed for… not my signature. I eventually found it at the front, leaning up against my retaining wall. Well, kudos to them for being so respectfully quiet.

      • +1

Yeah the airtag fell off lol

Do these still force ads onto your home screen with a silent update like my current Sony OLED (A7)?

    • +4

That's a Google TV thing and not specific to only Sony. Unfortunately, the major brands all have ads on their TV's now.

      • Is there a way to get the App list to the first row?
Also is it possible to change the size of the widgets (GUI) of the App?

Currently in my TCL Google TV the Amazon Prime recommendations are displayed on the top (first row ) in huge widgets and the Apps that I use are at the bottom with small widgets

        • +1

I don't know much, but I've read there are ways to set a different "launcher" app as the home screen, such as this one. I looked in to it briefly for my mother's Sony, but I think I needed to perform some action on initial setup which I missed. I haven't had a chance to revisit.

        • I have an A80. Turned off all the fanciness via the settings and it's much nicer now. I think it's called app-only mode.
When turned on, the layout has only a large carousel ad for TV shows in the middle and below that a single row of my installed apps (Netflix, Plex, Disney, YouTube, etc).

      • I understand it's a Google 'feature', but I think it lets TV manufacturers off too lightly to just blame Google. They choose to use this platform, they are Google's main customers for this product, they must have some influence over it. Many of them lightly customise the interface including Sony. I suspect that if one of the bigger manufacturers using Google TV really kicked up a stink they could get rid of this stuff easily.

I picked up an a80k 65" from JB HIFI for $2900 delivered last week

Paid with gift cards for the flybuys discount and the win

There are some good prices out there if you negotiate

    • +1

Good price. What did you say to get that price?

      • +1

I may be wrong but I'm not sure he/she actually negotiated to $2900. I think it's just factoring in the flybuys points they got when they purchased JB/Ultimate gift cards.. It was on sale for $3595 last week, maybe JB could have shaved off a little more if you pushed hard - say $100-150.

JB also had the TV + soundbar deal which gave 15% off that, bringing the TV to $3055. Of course, you needed to purchase a soundbar along with it…

@DiGiT02, ignoring you gift cards, what was the specific price you were able to negotiate in store? It is getting to that time of year so curious to see what kind of deals people are getting by going in store.

        • +1

Price for the TV was $2900, I got 10k flybuys points bringing it down to $2800 but just consider that a bonus

    • Hi.
Which JB HiFI store did you buy the A80K 65" at $2900?
I would certainly want to get one.

      Thanks.

I think we are all prob waiting for the good ol 83 A90J to go on a fire sale like 50% off.
    I can only dream.

  • Not much left of a former 'Glory" company.
From a huge presence in Sydney's "Silicon Valley" to a tiny office and a contract warehouse near the airport.
Once the warranty runs out it still has less serial locked parts than Apple.
Reparability? Do not ask me, ask Hugh Jeffreys!

  • we got a 65" SONY A80J (XR65A80J) for $3000 including delivery from Hardly Normal back in November 2021.

I was going for the popular LG C1 or something but that had a 2-week delay - he said the SONY was the same screen but better speakers and google TV or something - so we bit.

Just checked A80K vs A80J - says 'The A80K downgrades in a few areas, like the brightness, and the built-in speakers are worse. However, the A80K also has a wider 1080p VRR range. Overall, deciding between these two TVs comes down to which you can find for cheaper because they're so similar.' - https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-a80j-oled-vs-so…

  • How much better than my $300 Kogan 55"?

    • You can get 10 of the Kogan 55" and place them in every corner of the house ;)

      • Every corner? Sif not make a wall of tvs.

  • Next week at JB
    XR55A80J $1788
    XR65A80K $2995

There will also be some places doing 10% off gift cards that can be used at JB

So gotta be looking at prices lower than this next week.

    • Those seem like great prices. Will that just be JB HiFi? What if you don't have one in your town and can't get delivery from them, can you still ask other stores to match?

I wasn't thinking of getting an OLED at all, but if the 55" A80J is going to be that price, might have to consider it.

I've been looking at getting a TV for my parents' Plasma that failed not too long ago. I was looking at either the TCL C835 55", but it seems the deals are worse so far than the click frenzy sale last week. I also had another option for the Samsung QN90B 55" at $1609 directly from Samsung with a promo code I got.

What would you choose between those? Also, I was looking at maybe instead buying an OLED for myself and upgrading from my Panasonic Plasma (ST60A) and giving that to my parents (don't really want to give it up, though ;) ) if there was any decent deals under $2k on a 55" OLED. I was looking at the LG CS, C2, Sony A80J, and possibly Samsung S95B (not sure if this will go low enough). If something like the A80J is this price, would you get this over the Samsung QN90B?

      • You can try ask for price match with other store's. The Good Guys might have similar pricing.

As for your other questions i haven't really been looking much into the latest TV's, which is better or worse cause I'm still using my Panasonic Plasma like yours and I think I'll keep using it till it fails! so can't really help you much there.
I've actually started watching 3d movies again on it lol.
