  • This one is meant to be better than the Samsung mobile projector, yeah?

    • +6

This is Cheaper. More brightness. Built in battery.

      • are you sure there is built in Battery? cuz it didn't say in the product description

        • In the Product Description, the photo describes a
          17100mah battery.

          Also,
          https://eu.xgimi.com/products/halo

High-capacity Battery Ensures Portability: Built-in 59.454Wh battery provides big-screen entertainment anywhere.

    • +2

Yep. There are some caveats to that (like the lack of moveable stand) but overall it's considered a better product.

  • +5

I have/use this exact model. AMA about it.
Also this is a pretty good price but I bought it for 950$ 2 years ago

    • +3

gonna assume this isn't a short throw projector

      • I need some short throw and 4 way keystone.

      • Nope! I use it about 1.5m away from my wall to get roughly a 75inch screen (the math mau not check out but I am doing this from memory)

    • +2

Hey luckyeddy, how do you find the performance (picture quality, software) and how have you set it up (e.g., mounted, coffee table, etc?)

Looking at getting a projector instead of a TV for the living room! I was looking at the Samsung one but seems that most people think it's overpriced!
      Cheers

      • +3

Vivid storm projector screen + ultra short throw laser projector > TVs

        EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3R9YfEbdJA

      • +1

I reckon performance is good for the price but if you’re able to spend more go for a short throw as some models are really bright (+2000 ANSI lumens) .
I’ve got it setup on a side table on an angle and the digital keystone can sort out most issues of angles. We usually turn off all the lights and close the blinds to get the most brightness, so I would say use this in a dark room.
The software is okay but some apps don’t work like Netflix. I prefer using apple tv as a personal preference.

        • Thanks - I've bought it so I'm excited to give it a try and see how it goes :)

    • Have you tried projecting PowerPoint or text with this projector? Is the text clear?

      • You would most likely need to hook this up to a laptop via hdmi, and it will handle powerpoints with no issue. I use this for couch gaming and it works pretty well!

    • What is your experience on this projector during day time and how are the speakers?

      • +1

Speakers are loud for the size and build but I hook them up to my bluetooth speakers. Depends how bright the room is during the day, I usually close the blinds and off the lights to get the most of the projector

    • What's the keystone process if it's not auto? Do you have to manually adjust or is it a middle ground sort of "menu option, run correction" type operation?

      • +1

Nah it is all manual, and it’s a digital keystone (if I am using that term correctly), where it will just project an image and you manipulate the image to fit the screen.

    • Is it noisy?

      • +1

I never really noticed it being noisy, but then again I don’t know how to compare it to other models/ projections

  • Cheaper than the Mogo. Good deal.

  • I've been using the Mogo Pro and it's been great. Good price for the Halo which I believe is a more "premium" model.

  • If only the halo+ was near this price.. the auto keystone is a must

    • This just saved me was about to buy but definetly need that auto keystone

      • as a noob, what is auto keystone?

        • +3

"With automatic keystone correction, the projector will automatically detect and correct the distorted image, with the touch of a button. A vertical keystone correction aligns the distortion on the top or bottom of the image, and a horizontal keystone correction aligns the distortion on the left or right side"

      • Yeh, auto keystone seems to comes with a premium of +$500 of this price for the halo+.. waiting to see how much is the portable nebula 4k laser that just released..

  • +1

Another option for those wanting something a little brighter. This is available for $38 more with ebay plus.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334621663023

1300 ANSI. Android TV v9. No battery though if you need portable.

  • Damn i bought the halo plus for a lot more few months ago.. It was great though.

    • Just looking at prices of the Plus now. Has it always been that expensive? I was thinking of buying one when it launched (and maybe now with black Friday) but don't recall it being the price it is now.

      • i think its always like that I paid 1299 previously

  • I know it states 800 ANSI LUMEN which is really good, But Im wondering what the actual "Lumens" is?

is this more than 8500 Lumens?

    • +1

I believe ANSI lumens is a better measure because it’s a standardise way of measuring it

      • yer I agree but it sucks when some dont use it and so makes it hard to compare.

    • +1

ANSI Lumens is what projector manufacturers use to measure brightness.

Anything else is useless since it's not standard, so each "projector" (usually toys where most of the other specs are lies too) has a different definition of a lumen.

800 ANSI lumens won't really be watchable except in a dark room, if that helps.

  • Is this good to use in bedroom with the white wall

    • Any projector should be fine on white wall

    • +6

If considering for bedroom use, consider if you can project to ceiling. Comfortably lying flat and watching is next level.

  • +3

Another great option (XIAOMI Mi Smart Compact Projector) that is pretty similar/better in quality to this projector and with a nice coupon ($579, down from $830) is available in the spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1H_8ZMK4KdzH_vIBEWBf9….

Note: This is not the newer Smart Projector 2, this is the original version, which has better quality components (see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KIcV8J23_s).

    • This is very cool btw, looking at the xiaomi it only has vertical keystone correct? So if I were to put projector on side of room and aim at middle it wouldn't work?

      • That's right. The newer one has 4-way but Xiaomi also cut costs and went from a 0.33" to 0.23" DMD, resulting in a lower quality picture. Another good option is the line of projectors from Wemax, where the Dice is the direct competitor to those in this thread.

        • You sound like u know alot about projectors, I'm looking for one that I'm gonna to place on the side of my room and aim it towards the middle above a pre exisiting TV so I think I need keystone both ways? I think I'm gonna go portable too so I can use it with the kids elsewhere, what one would u suggest? I'm looking for around 1k

          • @locky2912: If you can push your budget by another 400 and don't mind a semi-portable option, check out Xgimi Horizon.

          • +1

@locky2912: If you want portable with speakers and battery than the Xgimi in the OP and Wemax Dice would be your best options. Likewise for semi-portable (smallish form factor but no battery), check out the Mi Pro or Wemax Vogue. Best to check out the reviews, I am not sure how the Xgimis compare to the Wemax offerings.

          • @locky2912: Hey Locky

I cannot private message you and the other thread got shutdown (rightly so) for Sockpoppeting.

I really like the Xiaomi, it's bright enough and easy to use. Especially for under $1000.
If it's costing more than $1000 I'd consider other options with better stand support and 3D. Which are my main complaints about the Xiaomi. Oh and you cannot adjust the brightness it's always max.

  • When does this deal start, Friday? Juicy idea for a FIL xmas present!

  • There is no native netflix support on my xigmi Horizon, so might wanna check on this model as well, i.e if you heavily use NF. Guess something to do with licensing.

    • No netflix on this, can confirm, I own one.

  • Code requires Ebay Plus apparently.

    • Never mind, post has been updated now it seems.

  • Might be a silly question but would it be possible to project ebooks using this? I like reading lying in bed, would be nice to project into my ceiling without holding a phone or tablet..

    • +1

why not. If you have an android app that can do it then the projector will run it, however the resolution might depend on how good the source is. As with anything the bigger the projection is the less sharper it gets

      • Ahh ok, thanks…

  • $150 more for 2700 ANSI lumens
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/epson-eb-f…?

Is the only difference portability? Also what does that mean for a prohector, aren't they all just plug in and out on a table?

    • Is the only difference portability?

Some take it to outdoor and camping.

  • This might sound silly but does it have a battery? how long does it last?

    • High-capacity Battery Ensures Portability
The built-in large capacity battery ensures the excellent portability. Users can watch 3.5-hour video (subject to actual usage) or listen to 5 hours of music on a one-time charge.

  • Code is expired. Shouldn't have waited until morning to double check it with my wife.

    • no its not? wasnt the voucher till the 20th?

      • Don't know what to tell you. I tried to use it yesterday morning and it's expired. If you can get it to work, order me one, lol.

      • Expired, only another code works but less discount.
