Too hard… there are easier ways to get 50$!

    • +11

      Like behind Wendy's?

  • +4

weird terms, why don't they accept those postcodes?

    • +4

      Geo-discrimination ?

    • +4

They are trying to attract new customers from outside their main region of the Wollongong area

      • +1

        makes sense

  • +2

Surprised it's legal to discriminate against specific postcodes lmao

    • Could you consider a postcode an ethnicity.

  • +3

They don't want you rocking up in person to their branches wearing your ozbargainer tshirt if your bonus doesn't come through :)

    • +1

      Is there an OZBARGAINER T-SHIRT?

  • +3

    IMB? Never heard of them

    • +3

They were the Illawarra Mutual Building Society, based in Wollongong.

  • +1

Could we get this again if we opened and closed from the last deal?

  • Are there monthly fees or not? When I go to apply for an account, it says "There is no monthly account keeping fee when the balance remains over $2,000", and "$6 monthly account keeping fee applies to accounts where balances fall below this amount (referring to the $2000)"

    • What's your question then? The terms as you've outlined them are pretty clear.

      • +2

On the link to the deal, it says "1. No monthly fees (normally $6) for the first 2 years for the new Everyday Unlimted accounts opened by new members aged 18+ with a residential postcode outside 2500-2551 and 2571-2580", i'm guessing there aren't any fees if you meet this criteria

  • You would need to pay tax on the $50, right?

    • No.

      • Why not?

        • Imagine the nightmare if tax on cashback from credit card deals.

        • The general tax principle is that you are only taxed on "income", meaning income that you produce with some effort, whether it is physical effort (work wages) or mental effort (dividends, capital gains & interest on your capital).

The $50 cash back is similar to a gift or a discount, which is given to you for opening the bank account. It is similar to JB Hifi offering you a $50 discount, if you buy a TV, which is, of course, never taxable.

$6 account fee when balance falls below $2000
Highest value of $5 or 2.5% for international transactions.
    $4.50 fee for Bank@Post.

Not negging the deal as such, but definately would not stick around with this bank

    • +1

"Not negging the deal as such" >negs the deal

      • It's a valid reason to neg. People should know the fees aren't great.

        • -1

ik i was just pointing out that you said not negging the deal as such then negged it

          • -1

@dm02: They've commented that they're not against the deal, free $50 is $50, but they're against the business practices of the bank (high fees). What is confusing?

    • The web link states "No monthly fees (normally $6) for the first 2 years for the new Everyday Unlimted accounts opened by new members aged 18+ with a residential postcode outside 2500-2551 and 2571-2580. Fees apply to international transactions and transactions performed via non-IMB channels."

Don’t bother… plus their system is crap… they still owe me $50 from opening last account. I end ditching the money… not worth the trouble

    • Did they give any reason for not paying the $50 ?

      • It’s not even up to that far that made you gave up for the money.
It’s their verification system and their branch system. On the phone they said can’t verify you and ask you to the branch, when in the branch their system is faulty and requires IT attention but after 2 hours no one response.
        So good luck to that.

  • Does anyone have trouble depositing money? I tried with ING and kept getting "a technical error is preventing us from processing your payment".

    • I couldnt transfer from Osko. Later got a call to have my info validated, which they send a letter via snail mail. So silly.

      • So have you been able to make a transfer yet? Can't make 6 transactions if can't transfer lol.

        • +1

Yes it defaults to the basic bank to bank transfer which takes 2-3 days (not instant with Osko)

          Edit: used Up to transfer

  • The app is so bad. Doesnt even have a card activation option. Have to do it from Internet banking.

And you cant see your card details in the app as well.

  • Do you think google pay purchases with the card is ok to qualify for the 6 transactions?

    Anyone receive their bonus yet?

    • +3

      Still nothing here…

    • +3

      Not yet

  • +4

Hopefully by end of next week considering holidays

    • +1

      Nothing here too

  • +1

    Still haven't received the bonus !!!! GRRRRRRR !!! :(

    • +2

yeah pretty annoying, nothing here today too.

  • +2

has anyone got IMB bonus yet??

    • +1

still nothing - I can't believe that a "bank" would not honour an advertised deal :(

  • +1

I notice that IMB Bank are at it again "$50 promotion for new IMB members who open an Everyday Unlimited Account between 12/12/2022 and 31/1/2023. Account eligibility requirements apply. To be eligible for the $50 bonus, new members must make 6 transactions using an IMB Bank Visa Debit Card, and hold a minimum account balance of $500 at the end of the promotional period (11:59pm on 14/2/2023). $50 bonus is only available for new Everyday Unlimited Accounts opened by new members aged 18 years and over, and with a residential postcode outside 2500-2551 and 2571-2580. Offer excludes Everyday Unlimited Kick Start accounts. Bonus $50 payment will be paid by 7th March 2023. IMB reserves the right to change or withdraw these offers at any time".

Perhaps this bank should pay up on the past promotion, as promised, before advertising yet another bonus !!!

  • Has anyone received the bonus yet?

  • +1

    Got the bonus today!

I sent a message yesterday and they replied they had escalated my request to the relevant department for review and processing. Either that did the trick or the bonus was scheduled to be paid today anyway.

BTW, For anyone considering using IMB as their regular bank: the app crashes constantly, to the point where I haven't been able to open it the last few days; the web is also buggy throwing up error messages.

  • +2

I sent a message yesterday through the IMB Facebook page via messenger. They promptly acknowledged my message and investigated. The bonus was paid into my account within the next 20 minutes and an apology for the delay was given.

    • +1

I contacted them today via the chat function in their app and they said they need to pass on the info to the other team blah blah. Not only the delay is disappointing, my interaction with them via chat is also not good. I have to wait for 4 hours for someone to get back to me and they don’t even bother to say good bye.

    • IMB Facebook page via messenger

wanted to try that out but it says "Typically replies within a day". Edit got a response, faster than app chat

  • +2

Bonus came through for me today too, a couple of days after calling them.

  • +3

Got mine today couple of mins ago, now the bloody app keeps crashing

  • +1

Finally received mine after contacting them both via the app and facebook messenger chat.
