  • 4) is it a gift card or a cashback?

    • +3

TCL's email says it's a digital gift card that will be sent to your email.

    • +3

      TGG store credit

      • thank you gents

      • That's 1). This is 4), which is TCL "cashback", which is a digital gift card.

        • +1

Seems like #4 is also TGG credit rather than a Visa/MC gift card according to the T&C's here.

  • also do you need to use your phone for the $70 store cash?

    • Yes, you'd need to add it to your phones wallet. I bought my tv instore and i register it before i bought the tv. After the purchase, the store cash was received 4 days after.

      • +1

yes I added it to my phone, but I mean do I have to actually make the purchase via phone to be eligible?

        • I would like to know the answer to this as well.

        • I don't think you need to do it on your phone, just make sure your details and mobile number is the same. And when asked, during the checkout, put in the details again.

      • I made a goodguys store cash account and added it to my google pay via the SMS link.

However I didnt see a option to link the cash account when i purchased the tv via my PC browser, but I purchased it while logged into my goodguys account that has the same name and mobile number as the cash account.

Is this enough to get the $70 credit?

        • I am wondering the same thing >_<

        • +1

Yeah I agree it is confusing whether it is "applied" or not during the sale and if the cash will go into the wallet for the next purpose.

        • yeah, ill give it a few days and if it doesnt credit ill give em a call, im sure theyd be happy to credit me

    • i purchased it and yet to receive the $70 store cash, it says in T and Cs that the store cash is paid on the 2nd and 4th thu of every month, do i need to wait until then to see if its tracked, or is there another way to check?

  • +3

I'm dead set on a LG C2 but this is half the price!

    HDMI 2.1 check
    Dolby vision check
    Local dimming check

    • +5

Was in the same boat thinking i will wait for a C2 during the black friday deals perhaps but after much consideration even with the black friday deals, i will still need to fork out 2K or a bit less than that if I'm lucky. Then the final nail to the coffin is that my old TV decided to die mid Oct. A combo of necessity and half the cost made me pull the plug on this TV. If you have a bright room, this tv is awesome. OLED needs a dark room to get the full benefit of the TV. Good luck.

      • +1

It looks like the speakers are impressive too! Built in sub! So that's another $200-300 savings from not needing a soundbar.

        • +3

Do not kid yourself, the sound will be shite, calculate a soundbar for all modern tvs, they are too slim to provide any decent sound.

          • +2

@snuke: I have this TV, the sound is by Onkyo and compares quite well to my B&W bookshelf speakers.. So..looks like your generalisation doesn't apply this time. The previous model has the same sound set up, and its well regarded in the review here: https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2021/07/tcl-c825-review-4k-mini-l… You'd likely need to spend $350 plus on a bulky soundbar/sub combo to get something that to sound better. But its plenty good enough, so I doubt you most ppl would bother.

            • +1

              @samwyze:

I have this TV, the sound is by Onkyo and compares quite well to my B&W bookshelf speakers..

You can't get around physics, and it's just not possible for a flat panel tv to move the air in any meaningful way. Sony with their entire screen as a speaker is the best hope.

its well regarded in the review here:

Gizmodo Aus has not been worth reading for tech reviews since Campbell Simpson left as editor many years ago. It's an embarrassment now, as was that "review". In thier review for the C835 by another useless reviewer, they recomend a sound bar - https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2022/08/tcl-c835-mini-led-tv-revi…
              The Cybershack review also says it's average/poor - https://cybershack.com.au/reviews/tcl-c835-mini-led-tv-bang-…

              Again, physics can't be ignored.

If you're happy with it, and many people will be, more power to them.

              • @snuke: I am honestly a bit picking when it comes to sound, since I used to be a projectionist in cinema.

I haven't noticed any issues with my TCL 835 since I started using it that made me run towards the speakers to switch them over. Perhaps I have just had some really poor experience with a lot of other tv's sound quality and it was more of a "pleasantly surprised" that it didn't make my ears bleed.

I can honestly say as someone who uses dedicated sound cards, and DAC's that I can't agree with the reviews that say the sound is poor, at least from a anecdotal position. Especially when comparing to a lot of other TV's on the market.

        • The sub is nothing special. You will still get plenty more from a soundbar, speaking from personal experience.

I also have a CX and even though it is 2 years behind, I still prefer the OLED by far. The TCL definitely was a bit more fiddly to get the settings the way I wanted, but it is a decent TV for the money as nothing else was a better option at the size and price point

        • +2

I can't vouch for the 55" but I very recently got the 75". I plugged in my edifier 2.1 via optical before turning it on for the first time. It took me longer than I am proud to say before I realised that sound wasn't coming through my 2.1 speakers.

I can honestly say that the sound is very impressive comparatively to any other TV I have heard. I have it wall mounted in a decently acoustic room, I don't know if that matters.

          Again I can't vouch for the 55"

          • @leonhart83: I agree, which is just as well given the problems I'm having.
I can't see an option to switch to optical output (just ARC, headphones, internal, etc.) for some reason.

            • @McFly: You need to change output to PCM for optical (I think it is under advance once optical is selected). I can't remember the exact options, but it needs to be PCM unless your unit support ARC.

Let me know how you go. When I get a chance I can tell you the exact options.

    • +7

The C2 is an OLED which has vastly superior picture quality than the likes of the C385.

If you can afford it, I highly recommended getting an OLED.

Once you get an OLED, nothing else compares.

      • +3

So, what you're saying is the OzBargain way is to NOT get OLED otherwise all future TV purchases must be OLED and more expensive?

      • Yep, better QC and gaming features to boot.

      • +1

Disagree, completely depends on your use case and what you watch.

        • Clearly never owned an OLED

          • -2

@magicpelgrave: I own an OLED TV and an OLED monitor, and while they're excellent in a pitch black room, they can't compare to an LCD in a normally lit room

    • +1

Don't do it , the savings will be long forgotten when it goes poooof, I know this feeling oh so well….

  • How do you get the 6% Shopback discount?

    • +2

Not a discount. Its cashrewards.. however only till 6pm AEDT tonight.

      • You are correct tonight only but still have time till 8pm AEDT

        • OK so its cashrewards, still don't know how to get it?

Also just to confirm but you can't use the Storecash on the same purchase right? I have to buy the TV and then I get the $70 storecash that I have to spend at TGG later?
I registered for the Storecash and it says its in my apple wallet but on TGG it only says I have to sign up.. even though I did?

      • isnt it via shopback, not cashrewards?

  • Is this better than the samsung Q70B and LG QNED 80 ? Does anyone know ?

    • +3

I cannot answer it as i dont have either tv. However, I did consider the LG QNED. But since it's almost double the price, i couldn't justify the price. I'd rather wait for black Friday deal and get C2 instead if I'm forking out double the price. But that's just me though.

      • +1

Ok.. LG QNED 80 75" is almost the same price now as the C835 75" at TGG.. so just confused

        • Q70B and QNED 80 I think are not Mini LED. I just got a delivery of 75C835 over the weekend and it's awesome!

          • -1

            @gt-chuah: QNED is Mini-LED.

            • +2

              @Ultraman: https://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-65qned80sqa

              It says "Backlight Type: Edge-Lid"

              • @gt-chuah: Yes, it's as clear as a fluorescent-backlit 19" 480p screen…

                https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/news/66c9785

Even though LG lists the QNED80 series under the QNED MiniLED Tv series, on the detailed specs pages for each model, it mentions Edge backlight, which contradicts to the MiniLED moniker. This could very well be a mistake but the backlight type will remain under question until further officially verified.

From what I've seen the 86" is MiniLED - the others, not so sure.

            • @Ultraman: Not really, it's a doggy series, only from QNED91 and above are mini-LED.

    • -1

The quality of Samsung and lg is far superior, tcl software is terrible and clunky , they are cheaper for a reason , I learnt the hard way , if I can save someone else the pain Ive done my job

      • It's Google TV…

  • +1

How is the viewing angle on these? I couldn't find the set on rtings.com.

    • +2

      https://cybershack.com.au/reviews/tcl-c835-mini-led-tv-bang-…

      Halfway down the page:

      Off-angle viewing – Pass(able)
Unlike OLED, where you can get close to a 180° angle to the screen, this VA LCD panel tends to wash out colours and details past about 135°. All this means is that you need to be a little more front-on in viewing than off to the side.

      • +1

Thats pretty much the case for every VA panel.

So relevant in comparison to OLED, not relevant in comparison to other LED tvs.

  • +2

So FYI this is 4K120Hz@4:2:2. But it is 4K60Hz@4:4:4.

So only matters if you want to game on it.

    • +3

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this something you only notice if you need clear text?

    • +1

No it’s exactly the opposite as consoles only run at 4:2:2 anyway. You only need 4:4:4 if doing text work on the desktop

      • +1

Yep you're right. It's really only if you want to use it as a PC monitor and have it over 60Hz does it become an issue.

  • Any good deal on the 65" version?

    • +4

Based on the OP calcs, the 65" comes down to $1,338.95

      • Not bad, will hold out for black Friday. I reckon will be Abit cheaper

        • Last two black Fridays have sucked hard. If you want it now I'd go for it, this price is pretty good (if you count tgg credit as cash anyway)

          • +1

@nigel deborah: Hmm… TGG 20% off only brings the price down to Appliance Central's regular price. Then they both qualify for the TCL gift card. So as you said, the only difference is really the in store credit.
Now that depends if you have any loyalty to the TGG. Have read some shocking reviews about their returns/repairs process!

How long is the store credit good for anyway?

Personally I prefer my discounts to be cash in hand.

    • And Nike sells lots of shoes between $50 and $300. Don't see your point

  • +2

Based on spec, it is mini LEDs but only has 240 local dimming zones for the 55" - so it won't be a huge difference in contrast like switching to OLED (probably similar to QLED with full array local dimming). The only advantage with mini LEDs for this model seems to be better uniformity of brightness. The official spec says only 500 nits for brightness which isn't great for mini LEDs. 6000:1 contrast ratio is above average though.

  • How did OP calculate cashback of $60.87? shouldn't it be (1116-70) * 0.06 = 62.76? So $883.24 total

    • Cashback is calculated on the amount you pay. $70 is the credit you will get after you make the purchase.

      • If that's the case then cashback should be even more, $66.96 (1116 x 0.06)

        • +1

Shopback cashback is calculated excluding gst. $1116 is incl gst.

  • Noob question but would someone please explain this for me

Also, make sure you link it upon purchasing when asked in the checkout fields. Store cash = $70

I've got the "store cash" added to my wallet and it says it is ready to use but on the checkout page I only see a "Sign Up" button to earn store cash, nothing else allows me to link the purchase…

    • I'm having the same situation. Anyone care to share how to confirm it is linked?

      • Phone number by the looks of it.

    • how long did it take to receive the sms for the store cash? signed up for about an hour now and still no dice.

      • A few days.

        • what I meant was the sms to add it to your digital wallet

          • @superfriends: Yes… the cash appears in the wallet after a few days.

            • @McFly: No worries, contacted support and resend me the sms link

    • did you manage to figure this one out? on the same situation and about to pull the trigger

  • i have the C735 model and I am VERY impressed with the Onkyo speakers….I rarely use my Yamaha 5.1 receiver now

    • I got the 75C835 - the sound is better than most but I would not contemplate taking away my YSP-2700. (Even though it's giving me problems - doesn't always send sound out when I turn on the TV, have to turn on internal sound then switch back to ARC to get it to work.)

  • What to do with my existing sony tv????

    • +8

use as door stop to keep the door open when you take delivery of your new TCL

      • Lol. Its only 1.5 year old.

  • Great deal, i would be all over this TV at this price if I didnt already have n + 1.
Anyway the store cash deal….. I have set this up and it is in my wallet. Say if I spend $550, I will get $50 back in my wallet after a few days? How does it know to credit my wallet? Purely by mobile number and or email account when i set the wallet up ?

    • +1

Uses mobile number on order and wallet to match them up is my understanding

      • Ta, just not clear when you put the first order thru…..and whether it is applied as cas\hback for next order (as the initial order shows nothing)

  • Absolute steal!

    • Meh. It's really only the in store credit that puts it marginally ahead of other deals. It's a good loyalty hook from TGG, I'll give em that much. Dunno if they're worth it though. I've heard some shocking stories about their return & repairs process.

  • This or the U8HAU for PS5?
