Sony VAIO E Series 14: i7-3612 2.1GHz, 4GB RAM, 640GB 5400RPM + BONUS Speakers $999 Delivered

30

So the specs aren't as great as the Shopping Express Toshiba, but if like me you have a need for a portable powerful computer then this 14 inch might be worth a look, being roughly a kilo lighter than the Toshiba.
EOFY Sale so ending 1st July or until the 200 available units are sold out. Free delivery and bonus speakers worth $99.
USB 3.0, HDMI, 1366 x 768 resolution, 2.4kg with supplied battery lasting up to 3 hours. 9 cell batteries start at about $120 for counterfeit apparently with a life up to 8 hours.
Sony usually rates in the top three of reliability and customer satisfaction surveys, coupled with the new technology in this machine I'd say it's a pretty decent investment.

EDIT: Forgot to mention my favourite part; backlit keyboard.

  • I don't know if the website is just bugging out, but the 14P for $999 looks like it has an i5 processor. The 14 (non 'P') for $999 (the laptop in the link) has an i7, but a worse graphics card and a 1366x768 resolution.

    • Thanks updated the resolution, my bad. I just realised i was confusing the $1499 i7 with this one, assuming they have the same specs when they don't. So this one is just a 14, the 2nd gen i5 and the 3rd gen i7 with the 1600 x 900 resolution are 14p.

  • from what I read resolution is 1366 x 768

  • i dont see any bargain about it.

  • It's a nice spec and brand notebook but the price doesn't shout bargain to me. Not bad price just not bargain price. YMMV. I certainly won't neg the deal and the OP has gone to some effort describing it so good effort there.

If you manage to find someone who's a member of Sony (X), then you can get it for $919.08, free speakers included. I'm a member myself; got JB Hi-Fi to price-match the Sony (X) pricing to $920 for the 14P model a few weeks ago when I bought it. Also, with the 14P, a Bluetooth mouse and a keyboard skin comes bundled with it; worth $128 (but really, a keyboard skin is worth $49?!). So if you don't mind having a 2nd-gen i5 over a 3rd-gen i7, then the 14P seems like good value, especially if you can get it for $920 or less.

    • Sorry what do you mean by "member"? Is this a club you have to pay to subscribe, or a employee discount or something? I'd be interested in the 14p at those prices

      • It's like a Sony fan club. Free to join, but you have to fill out a survey so they can see if you're big enough of a fan. You find out about new products and get to test them (like the new Google TV thingy) and you get staff pricing on their online store (e.g. 40% off headphones). Not sure how you can get in, but if you have Facebook, try sending them a message here: http://www.facebook.com/sonyxaustralia. Otherwise, if you don't mind missing out on free speakers, try get JB Hi-Fi to price-match. It took the guy at the Liverpool NSW store three walk-aways from me before he agreed. Didn't even need to show him proof of the pricing; he just took my word that I worked for Sony. xD

2.4kg for a 14" is oever weight, and battery only last 3 hours? 4 cells batter?

For comparison I saw a HP probook 4530s(15") in Sydney city last week, it's only $650! with a ATI GPU is some more. I paid $680 in the same shop 2 weeks ago! It has i5 and Win7 Pro, weight 2.5kg. This model is for business use thus better build.
