[VIC] SunRice Short Grain Sushi / Jasmine Australian Grown Rice 10kg $19.90 @ Colonial Fresh Market, Chadstone

110

10c cheaper than last deal for Sushi rice.
where is 7.3% inflation?
Plus Jasmine Rice this time, both are Australian Grown.

Could be the same price at Doncaster, Glen Waverley etc. as well. I'm not sure.
For your reference: SunRice Australian grown medium grain is now $19/10kg during mark down @ WW/Coles
Note that this is Australian Jasmine, different from the Sunrice Jasmine you get from WW/Coles, which is grown in Vietnam.

Some said the short grain taste bad this year.
I bought 10kg last time and finished the whole bag. I say the opposite.

Enjoy~

  • Thanks OP. Been stocking up on rice now as their prices were genrally up everywhere. Will check it out tmr.

FYI, it’s SunRice Topaz Jasmine rice.

Slightly different from normal jasmine rice. Grain is finer and shorter than say Thai jasmine.

I don’t mind it but I think Thai Jasmine is better tasting however it’s grown in Australia (uses less water than regular Jasmine) so supporting local jobs plus you know it’s grown/processed more hygienically.

  • I bought SunRice once. It doesn't cook like normal rice. It always ends up mushy. If you are an occasional rice eater maybe you can use it but for people from rice eating countries, stick with the rice you know.

    • This is no such thing as "normal rice".
Each type rice is different, + country / year makes it different.
Also how you set your rice cooker. Different setting cooks different rice.
It's like wine, there's no "normal wine"
There is only the rice you like/eat the most.

I don't use rice cooker at all.
Saucepan + gas stove is my way.
And I adjust my cooking time & volume of water by myself
Every bag of rice is different
Perhaps that's why I always cook the best rice, of course lol

      • Great to know, how much water do you use for Sunrice jasmine rice?

        • It depends if you want softer or harder steam rice.
If you think it's too soft this time, just put less water next time.

when using a gas stove, I may also adjust the length of gas cooking time by observing how the rice looks like through the glass lid.
If it looks too soft, I will just keep the gas on for 2-3 minutes or so.

Using a gas stove to cook rice is easy.
          1. rinse your rice with a strainer.
          2. Put rice, put water in your saucepan, 1 cup of rice : 2-3 cups of water
          3. Cover the lid, turn gas to the strongest until the water inside your pan is boiling.
          4. turn gas to the weakest for around 20 mins, or until it looks like the softness you prefer
          5. turn gas off, keep the lid covered for 5-10 more mins.
          6. Eat like cookie monster. lol

  • One mango, 3$. One KG rice, 2$. How?

    • Supply and demand, work and logistics.

Dry goods are much easier to store and transport, compared to seasonal fresh perishable goods that need to be harvested by hand.

  • Can someone confirm same price at the Glen?

    • I think I paid $21 at the Glen

      • They got both short grain sushi and jasmine?

        • I know they have Sunrice Australian grown short grain sushi but not sure of the price.

I didn't pay attention as I buy the Sunrice Koshihikari Rice
