DeLonghi Dedica Manual Coffee Machine Black EC685BK $249 @ The Good Guys / $211 @ The Good Guys Commercial (Membership Req.)

10

Since my Sunbeam EM4300 Mini Barista simply stopped turning on, and a refund given by Target, I'm back on the market for another similar. A couple of people here have raved about their DeLonghi Dedicas, and I was pleased to find them on sale at TGG.

$211 @ TGGC

Black Friday is coming and Aldi and other outlets had this around the $170 mark this time last year.
I'm going to wait and see.

$179 only a few months ago @ ALDI …. got one, and very happy with it.

      • +1

        Same, love mine too

For those lucky with access to the good guys commercial, its only $207.

    • $207? I see $211.

      • +1

        same, $211

        • +1

For some reason I'm getting $207 (plus shipping). Out of curiosity what's the lg DVH10-10B coming up for you? I get $1613

          • +2

            @Uncle BucK: $1657.00 (+$55 delivery)

            • +1

@jv: Thanks for that. I guess it's not standard commercial pricing.

              • +2

@Uncle BucK: It looks like it might vary depending on which organisation you joined with ???

cheaper at the Delonghi store $219 with free shipping.

I believe you still can use THANKS10 to bring it down to $197.

If you had the chance to use the 40% off discount before, it would be around $130.

  • +2

These are sub $200 on special?

    • Apparently so. This is TGG "special" price, though (their list price is $299). It's also $299 at JB.

  • +1

Anyone with this machine can provide any feedback??

    • +1

Makes nice coffee. But the steam wand (frother) doesn't work well. Common complaint. I had to buy a separate milk frother.

    • +2

Had it for 4 months and my household uses it no less than 4 times daily. No issues and happy with it bought from ALDI for $175 or so. Certainly value for money. Also easy to find aftermarket stuff, I bought a NEOUZA Espresso Bottomless Portafilter from Amazon and fitted perfectly. Never used the steam wand so can't comment on it.

      • +1

Whats the benefit of a bottomless portafilter?

        • +2

delonghi doesn't provide non-pressurized baskets, and for 2 shot dosage setting roughly 18g and over, aftermarket baskets won't fit in to the stock portafilter due to the inner plastic lining directing coffee out. Which is why most people to get bottomless portafilter to use non-pressurized baskets.

Not necssarily because they want to observe how the shot is being extracted (e.g channeling signs).

I would highly recommend for every day use purchasing a double spouted portafilter from aliexpress, very good build quality. Since not everyone at this price range is going to bother with proper puck prep which might end up with spraying from bottomless portafilter.

          • +1

@darkkito: I've only just got around to using mine regularly. I have a non-pressurised basket but am getting some splashing out, is that a result of using my puck incorrectly?

            • +1

@bboT: yep! it generally is, the easiest (lazy) way to stop your basket from spraying a little bit, seeing as I don't know how much is actually "spraying" is getting a round paper filter that goes on the bottom of your portafilter before your coffee goes in, which prevents the water from essentially spraying as long as its small amount.

              • @darkkito: What's the advantage in using paper over a portafilter with a sprout?
                Eg. https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005002766093366.html

It doesn't spray that bad, but I tend to hold the mug up to save having to wipe up a few spots on the bench otherwise

                • +1

@bboT: well paper would add a workflow step to your coffee routine, you would need to place the paper, wet it, then put coffee in it.

double sprout if you wanted to share a double shot with someone. No need for the paper since it won't spray.

I'm pretty sure I purchased the one in the link, can definitely tell you the build quality is a lot better than the stock one.

From my perspective, I needed a portafilter anyways so i opted to go for the double portafilter instead of the more common amazon one.

Paper also may leave some after taste since you can't really rinse the paper like you do with filter coffee without soaking it too much but it would be hardly noticeable.

                  • @darkkito: Seems like multiple reasons to buy a sprouted portafilter (double or otherwise) to replace my bottomless then. Awesome, I'll do that then. Keen to minimise use of consumables anyway.

            • @bboT: Small spraying in the first few seconds is normal, after that it would converge into a single stream.

This 51mm portafilter is small enough, just raise the cup all the way up to catch all the spraying.

The sprout one is quite hard to clean.

              • @werty98: The handle and the actual metal parts of the portafilter unscrew believe it or not, so if you really wanted you could deep clean it with some hot water and vinegar.

    • +1

We have the smeg retro 50 which I'm 95% sure is just this rebranded (they share spare parts).

Steam wand is useless, takes long to build steam and has a tenancy to shoot hot water instead. Wand is too short and has limited articulation, hard to get a good angle when steaming.

No complaints on the espresso part and portafilter (I replaced mine with a bottomless).

Just watched the video, that's the type of machine I want, slim, easy to operate, now waiting for some real owners' feedback before I pull the trigger. :)

    • +3

Makes nice coffee. But the steam wand (frother) doesn't work well. I had to buy a separate milk frother.

    • +3

just get it. Makes a decent coffee. Space-saving too.

  • +2

Got this machine during Aldi sale. Been using everyday 2-3 times a day. Going strong and definitely recommend this one.

The Steam wand is not so useful. It's easily come out whenever try to use steam feature. It can be resolved by getting additional wand or some tricks with existing one.

      $179 !!! Wish I knew about that back then ! :)

A couple of comments re the steam wand not working well … interesting, mine works great. Those that not happy, sure you've got the slide selection at the top of the nozzle set properly?

    • How to?

      • +1

You can just remove the metal piece and zip tie the rubber nozzle on by itself, works better.

I did buy a Rancilio Silvia Steam Wand for $33 but haven't gotten around to modding it yet. There's plenty of tutorials online though.

Anyone still got there from the Amazon Mothers day special years ago? $109 was stupid cheap!

    • +2

Purchased two when Amazon started up in Oz.
      Great little machines.
      Make nice coffee.
Never used the steam wand.Nuke my milk in the microwave beforehand.

      • +2

I replaced mine with the Rancilio Silvia wand, works a treat.

    • +2

Yep, got ours at that crazy price and been using it 3-4 times per day, has not missed a beat. My wife uses the steam wand and gets great results. I go the lazy flat white, good enough for me!
Only annoying thing is it starts to blink for descaling every couple of months, even though we only used filtered water. I think it is set to do that after a set number of pours, regardless of water quality.

      • +3

Yep, it's on a counter. You can change it to 'soft' water and there's more counts in between. I also just get some bulk citric acid for descaling. Use about 2 tablespoons for the tank, works a treat. Had mine for years using 3-4 times per day, too.

        • Thx albot, where do you get the bulk citric acid?

          • +1

            @billy_bob: Places called 'wholesale'
Depends where you are. In Adelaide Gaganis Brothers does. In Melbourne, there's lots of smaller wholesale shops that aren't Coles and Woolies. It should be pretty cheap.

Also, don't use vinegar, it hardens rubber.

  • +1

Good Machine for the price you pay of it but i have seen these for as low as 150-180 during a decent sale

  • TGGC is showing $198 for me, pulling the trigger on that price 👍
