  • Wished if cupping treatment was in this offer

    • The folks at https://www.hyperhealth.com.au/ offers cupping treatment.

A few questions. How long is this initial treatment? How much does a subsequent treatment cost? What is the length of the subsequent treatment? Also if dry needling is required in the subsequent treatment is that an additional $50 to the treatment cost?

    • +4

Rep seems to be ignoring your questions.

    • Hi @Sammyboy! Thanks for your questions. The initial treatment is for 45 minutes. A subsequent treatment is $85 for 30 minutes and dry needling is included as part of the subsequent treatment without additional cost. Dry needling is also part of the no gap offer without additional cost.
Let me know if you have any further questions and I'll get back to you asap. Also feel free to call or email us. Cheers!

Please note if you suffer from a diagnosed chronic condition you should be eligible upto 5 visit to an Allied health professional ie physio free via your GP

It is called a chronic disease management plan

these visits are usually bulk bill some clinics might ask for a small gap

    • +3

A lot of clinics charge a gap now as the rebate from medicare is very small at $56 to the allied health therapist. This is much less than what most clinics charge for standard consultations. A lot of GPs unfortunately just assume everyone bulk bills, which is ironic as more and more GP clinics are also charging gaps now too.

      • Im a physiotherapist i work with a Pods, OT, Chrio's, various mental health practitioners and dietitians - none of us charge a gap

However consults are no longer then 20mins due to the 'limited nature of the funding' - thats not to say we only spend 20mins often we are running behind to give a better service but bulk billing still exists at least in Melbournes Western Suburbs i can vouch for that - it is 'harder' to find these days im generally booked out for a few weeks and so are most of the other providers but we havent changed our model as we are in 'general' agreement it is about providing care to all even those that 'cannot' afford it opposed to just making money

However i will say most of our 'referring' GPs do now charge a gap which is completely understandable but it has made it difficult for patients to access care many of them just going to hospital instead.

        • I was about to say don't devalue your services and skill set so much. All of you at the clinic studied and trained hard to get where you are. If you are booked out for weeks perhaps it is a good time to start charging a small gap and see if it impacts the business at all. You should survey how many of these care plan patients also have private health extras.

I think a lot of people abuse the care plan system too. You could be seeing a specialist for something such as for kidney problems but then you could get access to the care plan for physiotherapy and use it for something completely unrelated such as getting a neck massage.

          • @Sammyboy:

I think a lot of people abuse the care plan system too

the system wouldnt need to be abused if allied health management was under medicare

the issue with medicare is the system is outdated - Doctors do an important job but health is so much more then a script and the old medical model

Mental health, Physical health and Dental etc imo should all be part of medicare and it should be on accessible for those wealthy enough to access care - but perhaps im bias and i understand medicare is expensive but so many people get given medication for their health issues which is not necessarily best care but it is best care they can access

@Trying2SaveABuck: There was a medicare funded dental scheme just over 10 years ago. It was totally scammed by dentists claiming the maximum $4000 per patient, so you had clinics cashing in up to $40000 a day and some were giving kick backs to the doctors referring the patients, hence it was pulled.

It was also proposed initially for allied health to get 10 sessions but I think (could be wrong here)…it was the AMA who kept knocking it back. Guess what got it through…cut the 10 to 5 sessions but then give the referring doctor $250 for printing out the referral which took them a whole 5 mins fill in. I've heard of medical centres where the doctors or practice managers just go through the patient database to see who is under the care of a specialist and then next time they are in, issue them with a care plan regardless of whether they need it or not! This is all adding to the medicare blow out at the moment.

We need the medicare care plans but there really needs to be proper system in place checking who qualifies for it.

@Sammyboy: i did read an article recently about 8bn been ripped off the medicare system by GPs - i 'personally' dont know how you can get into health care and 'rip off' the system it is very much a profession about helping people (at least that is my opinion)

if anything i think healthcare workers Nurses, Allied health etc are probably under paid for the study and work they do (again i might be bias)

but it is sad to hear people are ripping off the system - but perhaps Doctors have too much power when it comes to medicare and there needs to be more health professionals involved to help maintain accountability? i do not know

              • @Sammyboy: I have care plan but need to see the nurse and then the doctor to get 2 sessions. So three times to see a physio. I have foot injuries due to rubbing and exhaust private before using care plan.

                • @Commenter: Btw when the dr only gives you 3 visits and then you go back for a referral for the remaining 2, the dr also get to charge Medicare a fee for that extra referral. It's such a scam
