I've updated this description to match the one at Mydealz, this what I meant all along, but it was also 10pm at night when I was drafting this. Give me a break lol.

Buy Spotify GC's here at G2A
Buy 5 for Family and 4 for Duo.

Before you start the Spotify instructions, download and activate your VPN
(Please buy credit for Spotify without VPN)
As the German's have pointed out use HideMe for Spotify. You could try another one, but it may not work. Read the FAQ for more.
For me personally, as I've got 12 months free from the Keepsolid deal it works fine.

FAQ

Q: Do I have restrictions on a Australian Spotify account?
A: No! After you have completed the instructions, your account will be Australian again. Everything is available, including audiobooks such as The three???.

Q: When can I follow the instructions?
A: Your Spotify account must have the status Free. It doesn't matter if you use a new account or your old one. You can rerun the manual every 12 months for family or every 14 months for Duo.

Q: Do I have to take 3x 100 BR or is it also possible for 3x 6 months? ( Brazil)
A: It doesn't matter if you take 3x 100 BR or 3x 6 months. It is also possible to gain 6x 50 BR or 6x 3 months. Pay attention to the 24-hour limit. (Brazil)

Q: How many months is the maximum on Spotify?
A: A maximum of 18 months are possible, which is equivalent to 12 months Spotify Family or 14 months duo.

Q: What happens if I charge less?
A: If you charge less, you cannot return to Australia. A conversion to family or duo is then not possible.

Q: How much can I redeem per day?
A: Per day (24 hours) you can max. Redeem 4 codes.

Q: How many people can I add to a Spotify Family account?
A: You + 5 more people are possible in a family account.

Q: Can I also switch to Spotify Duo?
A: Yes, that's possible, follow the instructions and choose Duo instead of Family

Q: What address do the family and I have to provide?
A: You and your family must provide the same address. It doesn't matter if it's your real address or another one from Australia.

Q: Does this also work with an existing family or Duo subscription?
A: No! You have to wait until your family or Duo subscription has expired.

Q: Why not Turkey, Argentina or Philippines?
A: In principle, you can take any country that offers voucher codes. According to my current knowledge, there are currently no Turkish, Argentine or Philippine codes. Payment by credit card is possible via detours, so a change to Australia is not permitted. You are also severely restricted.

Q: What happens after my family or Duo subscription has expired?
A: Once your family or Duo subscription has expired, you will be switched to Spotify Free. All your family members will be from the family or Duo and then also have Spotify Free.

Q: What is the term I have when you switch to the Duo subscription?
A: If you switch to the Duo subscription, you have a term of 14 months.

Q: Do I still keep my playlists if Spotify is cancelled, family members are removed or added again?
A: Yes, your playlists and those of your family members will be preserved.

Q: When I select PayPal (step 19), I get the following error message: "Eita, algo deu errado. Tente novamente or entre em contato com a nossa equipe de suporte." What can I do?
A: Wait 24 hours (better 25 hours) and then try again. In 99% of all cases, this is the solution to the problem!

Q: I cannot switch to Brazil for country and region, I only see Australia. What can I do?
A: Your VPN is not suitable for Spotify. Take another provider. Recommendation: Keepsolid

Q: Can I stay single too?
A: Yes! However, a change to Australia is then not possible. You have to switch to Family or Duo subscription if you want to return to Australia.

Q. Did I test this?
Yes, it worked on my old account too!

Q. Why is it so expensive?
This is yearly pricing, due to Spotify's strict card policy (where you must be in the same country as the card), GCs are the easiest workaround for this. It works out to be cheaper going yearly than monthly, also you'd be spending more on smaller GC than this B$100 GC.

Q.If you have an android just use an APK for Spotify premium.
A. Great, but some of us use iOS.

Q. Just use YouTube Premium.
A. Some of us use Spotify.

Table for comparison of prices cheers to Daanish

Plan AUD cost monthly (annual) BRL cost monthly (annual) Cost of enough BRL100 gift cards for 1 year Annual AUD saving of this method
Single $11.99 ($143.88) BRL 19.90 (238.80) 3 @ USD 20.10ea = USD $60.30 (~AUD $94.54) $49.34 (~34% saving)
Duo $15.99 ($191.88) BRL 24.90 (298.80) 3 @ USD 20.10ea = USD $60.30 (~AUD $94.54) $97.34 (~51% saving)
Family $18.99 ($227.88) BRL 34.90 (418.80) 5 @ USD 20.10ea = USD $100.50 (~AUD $157.57) $70.31 (~31% saving)

I hope this makes much more sense than my previous description

I feel dumb, Brazil more expensive than AU. Am I missing something?

    • -7

The Gift cards make it cheaper. Look at the comparison table at the end.

      • +18

You need to include the final price - and that it involves gift cards - in the title…

You've made this about as confusing as it can be, though thank you for posting the deal!

        • +3

I clicked on this deal thinking they wear yearly prices considering YouTube Premium India/Turkey haha

          • +2

@Hansi: Same !! I thought yearly lol. No way I’m ever paying for Spotify.

        • -1

          Spotify is too exp3nsive.

    • +3

Swipe to see the full table. I didnt get it either at first

      • +2

Ahh ok, yeh phone cropped the table. Swipe right people

        • +5

          swipe left ?

      • +2

I can see the entire table and still don't get it. I pay my AUD314 and get a yearly family pass but somehow save 96.01. But Aus spotify is AUD227.

I'm clearly missing something here. Pls enlighten me

        • +2

From what I gather on the table, the second last column is the total cost to buy all the required Brazilian gift cards to satisfy that row's level of subscription.

So the Aus spotify is 227, but according to the table the total cost to buy the equivalent in BRL gift cards via G2A is 131.87, which works out to the $227-131 = 96 saving

I don't have an opinion on whether this is a good deal or not, as I am happy with youtube music that comes with premium

EDIT: I believe there are some errors with the fx rate used in OP's table. There are some later comments which have corrected this. But largely, the total savings if you go the Brazil gift card route vs the Aus route would still stand.

        • +3

I've updated the table, hopefully it looks better.

          • +2

@HamBoi69: Thanks. Appreciate the effort. That's a lot of time spent going through typical ozb crappy comments and answering them

    • OzNotBargain.

      Zing.

    • mate OPs math is killing me. None of the numbers make sense

  • +33

Youtube music $17.99 per month for 6 family members, unlimited music, down load any album in history including latest top 20 and keep on your device for as long as you want, plus access to all music videos to watch on TV, awesome for parties, plus access to add free YouTube, I don't understand why anyone uses Spotify or Apple music.

    • +3

      Apple Music

My share in an apple one membership split with some other ozbargain members worked out to $80/year

I really only cared about iCloud. Everything else is a bonus.

    • +13

yeah youtube family premium like $4.00 month via india.

      • +1

I has used Youtube Premium via India before. Now using the Argentina one. Youtube Premium via Argentina is going to increase their price from ARS 179 to ARS 699(Family plan) from next month. Are they going to increase the price for India too?

        • +1

I believe the current tech is Premium through Turkey.

    • +5

I have both. My experience is the shuffle of youtube music is buggy if you have big playlist. It would only shuffle the first few musics.

    • -1

      JRE podcast only on spotify

      • +15

So another vote for YT then? 😋

      • Does he still chuck his podcasts on YouTube too anyway?

    • +4

I have all of them. (YouTube music, Spotify, Apple Music, and a few other more niche ones)

Apple Music truly shines with its lossless and Dolby Atmos offerings. And no, I am not talking about when using AirPods or laptop speakers. These need to be appreciated on better open ear headphones and proper sound bars.

Spotify used to have slightly better UX, but now is pretty even.

Agree that YouTube music has the best value, especially when you sign up through VPN.

    • Ad-free YouTube?

      • Yeah man

    • $5.15** - you’re welcome

Kids under 13 can't use Google Home to play music via YouTube Music, I cancelled my YTM Premium because of this and switched to Spotify, who had a dedicated kids app for their tablets as well. This post is confusing af though, did anyone get it working?

      • And yet some how my kids were using it to play Wiggles some at age 3. Must be l33t hax0rs

    • +1

Because they may not want to hand their cash over to Google who have far too much control over the internet and/or prefer using Spotify, Deezer or Apple Music + (Apple Music + also includes music clips).
Each to their own, competition is a good thing for all users.

    • +3

Maybe the others are catching up, but last-time I checked Spotify hands-down has the best algorithm for discovering new music based on your listening habits and playlists.

  • +12

Jesus this is expensive haha 🤣. Why not use a modified apk or iOS client

    • +1

      hmmm do tell more =)

      • +6

"xmanager github" - android only ;)

        • +1

SIrMurDuck had me excited at 'iOS client'

          • +6

@spikiii: yea no chance on unjailbroken ios

            • @Leho: There is if your ios version is compatible with trollstore.

            • +1

@Leho: Try AltStore and sideload a .ipa, done

        • Thanks for the tip!

        • +1

Just tried the 2 latest versions, thought looked good at first but, but not unlimted skips, has ads etc

          • +1

@mitcheo: Search for it on reddit on r/sideloaded sub.

  • +6

    Philippines still way cheaper.

    • That's what I thought too. I hope it still works for new signup.

    • what VPN gives you philippines, NORD is useless

      • Try Windscribe ? Turkey option through AppStore probably easier though

    • Can we convert Australian account to Philippines?

      • Yes but you may have trouble paying… look at my comment below.

    • +3

After the recent price hikes, it’s seems Turkey Individual plan now comes out cheaper.

      Philippines: ₱149 Pesos / $3.97 AUD / month
      Turkey: 20.99 Lira / $1.77 AUD month

    • +3

Philippines has high security during payment even with VPN.

Note: No non-filippino payments will work.

My mate has a BDO Phils credit card, I used VPN to changed my account to Philippines then tried to renew and it wouldn't let me with his credit card, then I tried it with his Filippino paypal and didn't let me, he ended up asking his family to do it for me in Philippines with my login details and it didn't work on his BDO card even though the credit card came directly from Philippines, the family member used his G Cash account.

So I assume Spotify knows it's a VPN somehow even though I sucessfully changed my spotify country to Philippines from Australia, and even then, it wouldn't accept a legit Filippino origin credit card.

      • +4

PayPal my dude. I used fiver and hired a Philippina to create six emails, link them to Spotify and open a PayPal account in the Philippines. She setup all the accounts and then I when in and changed all the passwords. I added my credit card to the account (Citibank global transaction account) and it all works.

        • His PayPal didn't work either, and it's a Filipino one as well. Tried it only 4 months ago.

So it depends what Spotify thinks is a legit transaction.

          • @hasher22: To be fair I setup my Fillo account ages ago so perhaps they've sharpened up.

    • +2

This is the best advise I ever received and it worked.
For just 5aud per month for family account.

I used my old paypal PH account as payment method.
Signup in spotify using a new email (connected to philippines server via PIA VPN)

      BOOM magic.

I am able to linked all my existing friends to this new account. I just advise them to change their spotify profile country to Philippines.

      Thank you for huge savings!!!

  • +2

Don’t use Spotify but +1 for the effort.

  • If you have an android just use an APK for Spotify premium and never look back.

    • +1

none of them seem to work for me

      • Same, I wouldn't get any ads but I couldn't download for offline listening. I ended up just joining an OzB family plan which brought the cost down significantly.

      • R/apkapps

      • Most of them require you to delete your old Spotify before installing, and then hard close the app after you have logged in. If you use xmanager, this is what I do every time I set it up for someone and it always works.

      • x manager

I thought ozb didn't condone piracy

      • -3

I thought ozb didn't condone piracy

And it's actual part of the Terms of Use: "You shall not, shall not agree to, and shall not authorise or encourage any third party to… use the Service for any fraudulent or inappropriate purpose"

I haven't checked the Spotify T&C's lately but I'd be willing to guess that this post and a lot of its replies would qualify as promoting fraud.

      • Discussion about available options, albeit circumvented ones, is not piracy nor condoning it.

Developing or using said options may be considered piracy, but discussing them is certainly not.

  • Hi OP. Is this really as basic as buying Spotify Brazil and applying to my existing account? No pfaffing around with VPN’s and changing country etc?
I ask because ‘ze gut Germans at mydealz.de have a 19 step process that i gave up on (my life is worth more this…):
    https://www.mydealz.de/deals/1-jahr-12-monate-spotify-family…

  • +3

Costco has 12m AU gift cards for $119 if you’re already a member and near a warehouse (not available online sfaik). This is still $20 more than OP’s clever deal, but is a lot simpler.

    • +1

I thought these 12mth AU gift cards could only be redeemed for the Single membership, and could not be applied to Family memberships?

I don't understand the OP table, still looks like more expensive for Family

  • +2

In my experience, Spotify will complain after 14 days if not VPN to registered country? What am I missing?

    • +2

nah, I've been running spotify ph account with no VPN over the last 3 years with no one complained.

  • +7

Reading the title, I somehow expected these prices to be for the annual subscription and was getting my card ready with a smile on my face!
How could spotify expect the average Brazilian to pay that price?

  • I pay for Spotify Premium Family, got 4 filled atm.

It's just worth it imo. I use it ALL the time.

  • +6

Sri Lanka’s got the cheapest Spotify plans. Me and my mates share a family plan for 3.71 AUD monthly (this is for the entire plan, not per person - so 3.71/6 = 0.62 per person monthly)

    • +1

nord vpn doesnt access anything cheap anymore : (

    • How do you pay for it? When i try to sign up, it wont take my card (visa, wise), says my country and payment method dont match

      • You’ll have to switch your account’s country using VPN first. As for payment, I’m not quite sure since my mate (Sri Lankan) set it up for us with his local bank card. It’s worth trying to pay through PayPal in case your card doesn’t go through

    • Do you use a sri lanka credit card or gift cards? Thanks!

      • I’m not sure if it works with Aus bank cards, didn’t get to verify that. Pretty sure gift cards should work tho, provided it’s for the Sri Lankan Spotify.

    • +1

Can you show us how you got the Sri Lankan Spotify to work?

      • +1

        Have a Sri Lankan friend

        • +1

I have Sri Lankan friend, what's the remaining steps?

      • Check my reply above :)

    • Really interested to hear a bit more about how you set this up too!

      • Check my reply above :)

    • I also got Sri Lankan spotify premium student and pay only Rs. 265/month (~$1.15) but had to use a Sri Lankan card as my international card wasn't accepted. Idea using gift cards is interesting if that works

  • +3

I am on Spotify India, $40 for the whole year - Family plan

    Individual is about 20

    • What payment method do you use?

      • VPN + credit card

        • what VPN lets you connect to india? nord doesnt

        • +1

Which credit card? I get a country/payment method mismatch error
