  • Nice! Not really fit to carry the Thinkpad name, but this price makes the crappy Chinese generic tablets very hard to justify.

Should be getting ICS sometime soon

    • Actually quite the opposite, i use mine daily and its defiietly worthy of the thinkpad name. That being said the Thinkpad branding has diminished somewhat.

It has ICS in the UK, soon here.

  • If only Win8 tablets will be this price…

    • +3

They will be by the end of next year.

      • Unlikely in my opinion

The license for Win8 RT (For Arm processors, similar capability to Android tablets) will cost ~$85 - setting a high price floor for manufacturers - see http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/13/windows-rt-cost/

If you mean Win8 Pro tablets, I believe they will be priced as to Ultrabooks - probably starting at $800

        • +2

does the RT in Windows RT stand for "Really Terrible" ?

          get it?

          Huh?

          wokka wokka wokka

          where have you all gone?

        • +1

Be careful with that - they may cost $85. They may also cost $35. Lets not spread FUD. There is no official pricing at the moment.

    • They will be.
Just that it will take 3-4 generations of ARM tablets :)

  • Nice

  • +1

    Shipping
$12.05 Mel/Bris/Perth/Hob/most other places (or $16 with insurance)
    $16.45 Darwin

  • Anyone comment on how good the digitizer is?

    • exellent altough dont use it much, then pen is very nice.

    • Stylus is battery operated (1 x AAAA) to omit an electrical signal, and is quite accurate for hand writing and drawing. Depending on the app used with, this means you won't get strokes generated by your hand/palm on the screen (e.g. Quill is great for freehand notetaking whereas the default notetaking app that ships with the tablet picks up inadvertent hand/palm movements on the screen)

I use this tablet exclusively for notetaking at work — no more hardcopy note books!

      • doesnt it have gorilla glass??

        • Yes it does

  • +1

    Hi OP,
Can you do $50 off for the 3G model 18382GM

    • Hi oztechbargain,

Currently we can only do special for this product.

    • +2

+1 for addl $50 off 3g. Nearly buying :) Resisting the urge while preparing an excuse for the wife at the same time

    • +2

+1 too, guaranteed purchase for me!

    • +1

      one for me

  • For anyone that has one, are the speakers sound output really low?

Thinking of usage on flights, if plug in earphones, will you be able to hear better? or will sound still be too low?

    • +1

For flights, I can recommend some active noise cancelling headphones. You put batteries in the headphones, and it cuts out the low background hum of a flight, Plus, they usually have a small amplifier in there too so if the sound output from the tablet is low, that could help boost it.

I'd never really thought active noise cancelling headphones would be worth it, but then I got some Creative x-fi somethings on sale (thanks ozbargain!), and for my last flight to Germany the difference was amazing. Wouldn't fly without them again.

      • Thanks, your comment reminded me that my mate bought some sennheiser active noise cancelling ones recently, and he was very very happy with them too!

      • Absolutely +1 to this. I bought some cheap Sony ones the other week for my trip to Europe and they were a godsend. I am sure a set of $400 Bose are even better, but for $79 my Sony did me just fine (can get them even cheaper online but I left it too late).

  • +3

Amazing price. A branded 10 inch tablet for less than $300 is what I'd call a bargain.

    • +1

I'm fighting the urge, the urge to splurge! ;)

      • +1

I think someone is negging you because u negged their deal

        • +2

Wow, yeah I've pissed several someones off…could be a long list of suspects though!

I'd say at this point it was Colonel Mustard in the Conservatorium with the Lead Pipe! ;)

        • +1

Oh i had my money on the butler lol

Its worth it, although the new one is right around the corner.

  • Is the digitizer pen included?

    • yes it says it in the last line ie •Extra: ThinkPad Tablet Pen (Digitizer pen) so maybe that means there is 2. If it is not included then there is an empty hole on the side of the machine with no cover :(

      • The digitizer pen is standard with this tablet, but I guess if you REALLY want to be sure, you could wait until tomorrow for the rep to confirm.

  • Is there a 3g version on sale? Only downside based on review is the battery takes 24 hours to recharge, and i thought my galaxy tab takes forever to charge

    • It takes a long time although 24hrs is a bit off. Its only a few hours with the dock, but yes it is slow with the normal charger, painfully slow.

      • My experience suggests more like ~4-6 hours to full charge from a very low charge or flat using a USB charger

  • One thing people may not like with this display is the stars or dots, you only see it on a black screen really.

  • +1
    • but according to the review, the tablet is mediocre. just a couple of weeks ago, there were the 7.7 galaxy. i passed. should i pass this one too? i already have a new ipad, though i am not a fruit fan.

  • +1

How is this compared to iPad?

    • +12

If you are asking this question, get the iPad

      • haha @lamerthanlam That is true :P If you want things done nicely and have things look nice and pretty and are (foolishly) willing to pay the price, yeah get an iPad.

      • yes, get the ipad. it has way nicer feel for end to end user experiences. plus the resale value is good too.

      • +1

        all worship "lamerthanlam"

        close to "Epic Reply" worthy

    • +6

The ipad is really nice and does what apple wants you to do. The Thinkpad tablet lets you what you want and is designed as a business tool.

      • -2

think pad is just branding. This is just another honeycomb tablet, and except it has a pen.

        • +1

          Use one then comment

    • Well main thing is the price. Then also there's a digitizer stylus. In terms of design, the Lenovo is much chunkier. It also weighs more, but it's got an SD Card port and USB port, which the ipad doesn't have. Again, it's a matter of personal preference, and whether you can justify paying more for the ipad. If you're planning to use it for work, the lenovo (with it's brilliant folio keyboard case) is the far better option. Performance wise the ipad is slightly better, again better for games and that kind of thing. Another personal preference is the OS. Some find ios quite limiting ( I certainly do :P), and it's a hassle trying to customize things and sync things to and from the ipad. Android is pretty good at doing those kind of things. In terms of apps, yes ios is superior, but Android isn't too far behind. But I guess at this price, it's certainly worth getting over an ipad. OR if you're looking at waiting for an even better android tablet, the Transformer Pad Infinity (http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-infinity/features/) will be out soon as well as the Asus Padfone (http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone), which is a completely new and I think fantastic concept.

      • Similar to motorola atrix and lap dock, great concept

        http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and…

        • +2

Indeed, I think that's where the future's at. Seamless integration between portability for on the go and performance at a desk. So you should be able to seamlessly go from your phone, to your tablet, to a dock, and a desktop computer.

        • +1

Now we just need to convince everyone else :)

        • I'm convinced…love the padfone concept…looks really awesome.

        • me sold on this fo sure

    • +2

I have both the iPad and ThinkPad Tablet, and each one has its uses…

      iPad
[+] simple and intuitive GUI, lots of apps, slim and sexy
[-] pain to type notes quickly on the soft keyboard, no Adobe Flash, proprietary OS, no expansion ports

      ThinkPad
[+] digital stylus, lots of Android apps available, very suitable for business use, has Adobe Flash, heaps of expansion ports (including a full-size USB)
[-] Chunkier and heavier, needs to be charged daily if used extensively

  • +1

good news! Android 4.0 ICS is coming this month.

    http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/products/tablets/thinkpad/thi…

    • I just saw it when i was checking out the website and before i bought it. ICS closed the deal for me.

  • How good is this deal compared to the toshiba 7" tablet $199 posted by the same rep weeks ago?

    • +1

You're essentially paying $50 more for 3" extra inches of screen real estate. The hardware is essentially the same — 1ghz dual core CPU and Tegra2 chipset, with 1GB of RAM.

The screen resolution is the same.

Battery life I'm not sure. The Toshiba Thrive is reviewed and said to have a fairly mediocre battery of 5 hours (continous web browsing at 40% brightness). This would probably do better due to the larger battery.

So it comes down as to whether you'd like your tablet large or small.

  • is shoppingexpress trustworthy? maybe a silly question, :/

  • ICS has already started dribbling out here in OZ - mine updated about an hour ago…

    • Awesome!, mine is updating now. What do you think?, i know only an hour

      • To answer my own question, its seems much snappier and maybe quicker. Movies seems to be smoother so far, about 10mins of testing.

  • Chinese websites said that re-charging is terrible.

  • I was about to buy the 64GB WiFi version from Lenovo website.
With coupon code it came to $370.

This one is a better deal.

I suspect Lenovo is going to dump Android and adopt Windows 8.

    • +1

Which coupon code do you use? Cannot find one in the forum…

      • LENOVOTABJAN12 still works

        • Thanks.

    • More likely dumping Tegra 2 based tabs as Tegra 3 is already out and the Tegra 3 Nexus is out in about a week with tegra 3 although the Nexus is only 7"

  • Wish officeworks or jb hi fi had this to price match!

    • I think both have no stock at all:)

  • Does anyone know if this tablet will work with a 3G USB modem (with 3.1 or ICS) ?

  • hmmm take $50 discount off the 3g version and i'll consider buying it!

  • Out of stock :-(

    • Damn. Only just saw this after just getting home from work… Missed out :(

      • damnit, missed it too. Got distracted from my evening OZB visit. I wonder if other retailers would clear them out at that price as well.

  • Out of Stock!!

  • +1

OP Since its Friday a happy day can you please open this deal again? :-)

  • Hi All,

This deal is finished for now. Hope everyone enjoy while it lasted. Will it be back? Hopefully.
On a side note, i wish to make a "food for thought" & I hope people don't take it that i am saying this just because i am a rep:

A subscription on our newsletter is recommended. Why? Deals such as this cannot be found just by checking our site, as the discounted price only applies at checkout. This ensures you get informed of our latest deals (such as this) and avoid missing out some deals that did not get the chance to be posted in ozbargain.

    • +1

Lucky people post your deals here ;), i dont check my email very often so would have missed it if i didnt find this post. So thank you Ozbargain.

    • +1

      Hi Rep,
We will appreciate, if you can post it again here in OZB.

    • +2

Hey Rep, just post any good deals on here, i check my non-work email twice a week, but i check OZB 10 times a day!

      • To: Souljarh,
:). I know what you mean - and i have the impression that most people in here do the same as you. My point is: due to limited number of post per week on ozbargain for Reps, not all deals gonna be featuring here. Therefore, my suggestion as above. That suggestion does not mean i will stop posting on ozbargain.

        • write in this threat and someone will post it. We keep a eye on old posts too :)
and if you remember we have done in the past during HP laptop thingy

        • Thread *

        • Worked better as threat :)

        • Hi gagans,
Last minute deals has come out, see below's comment and if you think is good, welcome to post it up:

          http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/shop/last-minute-eofy-deal…

    Just received the unit.
I was excited to see the digitizer pen included.
Couldn't believe my eyes and had to recheck post.
Completely missed it in the post coz $250 for unit alone was a bargain.
Hope the deal comes up again as I would not mind another.

    Cheers ShoppingExpress

    • +1

      Jealous. :(

      • there is always a chance :) It'll come soon.

  • Just picked mine up from post office and not sure what to think.
There were fingerprints on the screen + some sticky residue. (cleaned up fine though)
Battery started charging from 35% ??
Either Lenovo have dropped their production standards considerably or it's a refurb?
Security seal was perfect, both on the tablet wrapping and box, so at least I know this is how lenovo shipped it.
    Any thoughts anyone ??

    • Yeh sorry about that. I work for Australia Post and masturbate alot.

  • TOTALLY TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with this ShoppingExpress !!!!!

i just bought one of these Lenovo tablet on their website on 28/6 ,
receive it and charge it 12hour , it would not switch on ,
this company just send out faulty product to customer ,
i am very disappoitned as this is my first major online shopping experience
for electronics using this website , i am still querying them for resolution but
i am expecting a working product , this is horrifying

    • Signing up to complain about a rep is not a good sign of trustworthiness…

      • hi yushings,
We understand this is your first major online purchase and it is just unlucky to receive a faulty brand new product. Just follow what we have advised you yesterday morning and you should get your replacement unit soon!

        • but i must say , even i am not happy , SE have a quick customer service response

      • There you go, seems like decent customer care from my pov.

        • i admit that i just sign up my account for complain because i think it is an issue for me & this company , plus from what i've seen in other forum , seems like if nothing get post public , nothing will get done

if you wanna be Skeptical , nothing is trust worthiness on the internet untile you personally see it , feel it ,

To update my situation , i sent in my DOA tablet last friday and heard nothing at this moment , but from the staff who email me to explain things , seems like they will need a week or more time to process , which will cost me at least 2 extra weeks without the product.

the reason could be as they said just luck , or anything is possible , but as a customer point of view , i am not happy with 2 extra weeks of wait from my pov

        • I feel for you my friend, however this is not specific to this company. Anyone can get a dud, the question is how it is handled. If after 2 weeks you have a working device in your hands I think you should be very happy. This was a great price and I'm sure there are people that would be happy to get it off your hands for that price.

Overall Shopping Express do not have any reason to sell a defective product, it is in their interest for you to be a happy. A return process costs them money. Moreover not sure where they are getting you a unit since those units sold out fast!

Keep us posted on how it goes.

        • Please message your ticket id to me, and let me have a look at your case, so that i can find out if we did something wrong to deserve such a big question mark about our credibility. From what i know, in most of our DOA cases, you should get a replacement dispatched within 1 week after we've received your unit (condition: as long as we have stock on hand, if not we will need to get the replacement elsewhere, which may result in requiring at least another 2 to 3 more working days). If it is non DOA, it could take longer time, as it will need to be repaired or replaced by the vendor after we send the faulty product to them.
For your case though, i am pretty sure we will be able to send you a replacement pretty soon. If you are worried, you can always email us to find out the status, or call us if urgent.
