  • how is Platinum compared to the normal ones?
Reading previous comments seems normal ones have a better rating? Worth paying for the 3c difference per tablet?

these are pretty shit imo, leaves a lot of white powder on glass.

Damn, opposite experience here - work great and as well as every other high-end tablet / pod I've used

    • Use the longest, hottest cycle on your dishwasher.

      • i do it for 120mins…. which is like the middle setting

        • 1.20 cycle for mine, faultless

      • That costs more in electricity.

May as well use a cheaper powder that's better suited to a shorter cycle

        • I used to think likewise… do some research into this… I recently learned the 3hrs "ECO" setting on my dishwasher uses less electricity than the 90 min wash. Likewise - my Kogan front load washing machine… uses less energy (and water) on "Cotton Eco" which takes a ridiculous amount of time (5hrs or something lol)… vs "Cotton" at 1hr 10mins ish… You learn something new every day I tell ya!

          • @kiwiinsyd: Yeah this is true. 100% counterintuitive that the longer settings can be cheaper but I had that same realisation. From what I could gather they tend to use more electricity on pumping water as they pump for a longer period of time but because it doesn't heat up the water to the same amount it ends up being less electricity overall.

Ideally you setup the dishwasher on a delay to run during the day (or whenever off-peak is) if you've got time based electricity charges.

All of my clothes washing experience was with cycles less than 1 hour until I went away for work, had to share a machine with my housemate. I couldn't believe the time it wanted. Like did a good job but I really had to plan better for it. Wasn't great when I had 2 sets of clothes for 5 days lol.

          • @kiwiinsyd:

            do some research into this

I know what I'm talking about, you are a bit confused.

I recently learned the 3hrs "ECO" setting on my dishwasher uses less electricity than the 90 min wash

Yes that's true because it washes for longer at a lower temperature.
Making and keeping water hot uses more energy compared to pumping it.

If you look at the comment I replied to it said

            Use the longest, hottest cycle

That's not an eco setting and will use a lot more energy because it needs to keep the water hot for a long period of time.

@spaceflight: I wonder whats the negative vote about. Your answer makes sense and is in no way controversial imo 🤷‍♂️

    • +1

Agree. I always just go for the half price ones from Fairy or Finish.

We used the Aldi ones for a while but found they weren't properly dissolving. Ended up having someone come out to check (for an unrelated issue, Miele technician) and he said don't use the aldi 'block' style tablets. They're too dense and don't dissolve, leaving residue/can cause clogs and problems.

      • All I will suggest, is DO NOT put them in the powder dispenser thing - I had your experience when I did so. Drop them in the base of the dishwasher itself! Anyone agree / disagree on this?

        • 100%, I put them in the dispenser of my current machine but for my old one I used to leave it out of the dispenser as I'd often find it not fully dissolved sitting in the handle of the second drawer. It's not ideal imo due to having rinse cycles and such but it still seems to work.

Similarly with the Coles tablets with the dissolvable wrapper, when wet it'd get sticky and then would get stuck inside the dispenser tray even when it opened. So I ended up peeling the wrapper off before tossing it in.

    • +9

That's not our experience. These are great and consistently work well.

This big pack is great value.

Not really a deal at this price, better getting the Finish packs on special from Chemist Warehouse.

    • +1

i agree. i changed to them since Aldi changed their formula for their tablets sometime last year and they arent as good anymore.

    • +2

Finish are overrated. According to Choice, only Finish Powerball Quantum Ultimate Pro (lol) beats Aldi Platinum dishwasher tablets for quality, and that's at six times the price. Even Coles brand had better results than Finish classic.

      • ok mate. what i said was Aldi version was definately the best i would say (the standard one was even better than the Platinum and cost less as well btw) unfortunately not anymore. same dishwasher, same wash, same type of food.

also im talking about the basic Finish Classic Tablets 110 Pack $12.99 which equates to 11.8 per tablet.

      • I'm the same, Aldi was the way but not any more.
It looks like they have changed since the Choice review.

  • +1

I don't see what value vs the 14c tablet? Like yes this one is discounted but I've been using the tight ass tablets 3 years now and they do great.

Occasionally there's white or blue residue on items, I'm almost positive this is due to be stacking poorly.

    • Tbh I don't think there's any benifit for you then. You make a good point, it's easy to get carried away with the "best" performance but what really matters is what's the cheapest thing that'll do the job for you. So like best value.

Some tablets and even cycles might be better with egg for example than others. But if that's not a daily occurance or it never is an issue then it doesn't really matter.

    Finish Classic Tablet 110 Pack
    $16.99 at Chemist Warehouse
    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/79075/finish-classic…

    • I found these ones work fine… In fact need to check on my supply in the garage 👍🏻

    • Are they still good since they removed the red ball

    • +7

I avoid these as I am trying to reduce my single use plastic. The Aldi ones are in dissolvable non plastic wraps.

  • +10

Tablets… While you're in the Aldi, just get their powder. All reasons were discussed before. If you didn't see before my post is there (first one). https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/723659
Save money, get powder or use it in combo with tablets of your choice.
    Hope it will help someone.

I personally use powder in the tray and on the door to maximise effectiveness of the pre-rinse cycle

      • +1

Indeed!!! and… at the fraction of the price.

      • That's really cool. We used these commercially in kitchens. So I'm guessing there'd be some really good deals on large quantities available.

Unsure of the performance but if it works it'd be awesome.

    • The powders rate terribly in Choice testing through. I'm not sure if having a detergent pre-rinse is enough to make up for the poor performance of the product.

      • +1

I have switched over to powders and have not seen any drop in my dishwasher's performance.
Initially swapped over after watching this video. (Super long but very interesting!)
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rBO8neWw04

        • +7

Yep this is the video that got me to switch to powder. I just buy the Woolworths 'Shine' powder.. $3.90 for 1kg. Fill both compartments and do a proper wash cycle. Way cheaper, and way better results for me personally.

        • +1

I’m going to try powder too.

Is there a TLDW version of the video? Lol

      • I started using the powder recently no issue so far.

      • +3

For powder, I really like the Ecostore powder (especially when it's discounted). Compared to Aldi powder, the Ecostore powder doesn't leave fat deposits that build up on the plastic parts of my dishwasher's (Tisira TDI-6SS) filter. The Ecostore powder also doesn't leave white residue that builds up on the plastic cutlery basket and plastic spray arm.

Rinse aid didn't seem to help remove the residue.

      • I saw choice testing and initially used tablets too. Switched to Powder after watching the technology connections video linked below too. Using a bit in the pre wash cycle by just putting on top of a dish, then enough for lowest bracket of the detergent dispenser.

Dishwasher on hottest cycle. Works amazing! Way better than before. Even gets things like old stained tea mugs to look sparkling clean.

Have used Aldi powder, WOolworths Powder and Ecostore powder, all were good for me

    • +2

Yeah powder is the pro move, my dishes always come out great on any cycle and I can throw more/less in depending on how greasy/dirty things are.
Pods are more of a hassle, get stuck in the stupid door, cost more, and can't be used in the rinse cycle.

Unfortunately the local Aldi often has zero stock of the powder, they need to start ordering it more consistently.

    • The Aldi dishwash powder is ABSOLUTELY S*** - the Choice reviews confirm this - I was using this for aaaages (Aldi fan boy here), and kept wondering why my wine glasses were cloudy and dishes not clean enough really. Switched to the Platinum tablets and voila, sorted. Just don't put the tablets in the dispenser - dump them in the bottom of the dishwasher.

  • +1

    They’re pretty good!
Originally using Fairy Platinum Plus tablet, however the chemical is too strong and leave some artificial smell on the my dishes.

    • Yep, hate the fairy brand for this reason.

    • +1

I have not found any tablet that washes better than Fairy Platinum Plus. I even did a blind test with other family members who all picked the cleanest, shiniest results which happened to be each time I used the Fairy Platinum Plus tablets.

The downside, like you mention is the smell and I am particularly sensitive to smell. To combat this I store the tablets in an airtight glass jar for quick and easy access. I only put the dishwasher on after dinner and open it up to air out overnight which helps dissipate the smell.

      • What is the YT link for this blind dishwashing tablet plate test? Asking for a friend

        • Sorry I didn't film the experiment. It wasn't really planned. We just ended up with lots of different dishwashing tablets and I began randomly using them, noting comments of the results.

  • +1

These are voted top in choice magazine.and I agree, they’re fab

  • +2

why nobody tried kirkland dishwasher tab, 18.99 for 115 tablets, works a charm.

    • haven't tried these ones… splurged on the Cascade ones when on sale (I think $27 ish for 90?)… these seem same as Fairy Platinum Plus. Will give the Kirkland's a crack if you reckon it's a goer. The big question is - would you drink their vodka if Grey Goose was an alternative?! lol

      • Lol, I believe cascade is probably same level to fairy, both green packages are fancy. but kirkland brings me the same result, I end up giving up on grey goose and going cheap, lol.

  • Has anyone notice that the aldi 18 in 1 leave a stronge after smell in the dish washer? I thought it might just be in my head but i chnaged to the aldi eco tablet and there is no or hardly any smell.

  • Checked two stores and it's not available. Currently 'delayed'. Disappointing.
