Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3 Chromebook 8GB/128GB, 11" 2K Display $509 (RRP $679) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

140

Just noticed that the Lenovo Duet 3 is up on the JB HiFi web site.

Personally I'm still happy with my original Duet as a supplemental device but I know a lot of people have been waiting for this to be available as a replacement for their original Duet or just as a first purchase.

Updates till June 2029.

Now not really sure if this is a bargain as nobody else has it listed yet and it already dropped from $679 about an hour ago when I first spotted it to this price of $509 so who knows if additional discounts will appear. Only time will tell once Officeworks and Amazon start listing but here's your chance to be the first to buy one at a "reduced" price :)

Be aware that if you intend to use a USI stylus with these you can't use your existing USI 1 pen, you need to purchase a new USI 2 pen. So much for Universal :P

  • Wow. Felt like the Duet 5 just came out. It's been a year already.

People happy with these units? I’ve never heard of them.

I've got an older model (mediatek CPU) and recently used it to do a couple of training modules for a license application. It worked incredibly well. I had the IdeaPad chrome book, my Android phone, and a 10,000mah USB power brick. I did 2 x 8 hour days in the class room, with the "laptop" opened constantly working on .docx documents using Google Docs / marking up PDFs / trawling stupidly large copies of legislation (either web or PDF) and it handled it with ease. At the end of the two days, I still had ~30% remaining in the power brick and both Ideapad and phone were 100% charged. The only additional charging the phone got was on the drive home when I had it plugged in to the car charger.

The people using MS laptops were chained to power points the whole time, and the people using iPads were super slow to do anything as they lacked physical keyboards.

Was very impressive. I originally bought it to use field management software on the run but gave up as it's almost universally terrible software so it's spent the 18 months or so behind the seat in my car. Flipped it open and the damn thing still had battery life lol

      • I probably charge mine once a month. The low overhead nature of the Chromebook is really nice for your day to day basics.

    • These are new. I was looking for it back in July but it wasn't out yet so I got the duet 5. This size would have been perfect for me as the 5 is a bit awkwardly wide

  • Thanks for sharing, but at this price wouldn't an Ipad would be much better. I'm not a fan of Chromebook.

Apple vs Android, Ford vs Holden….. I have never and will never purchase an Apple product :)

      • I have never and will never

        Onya maaaate

      • Yeah but at the end it's a matter of personal preferences and beliefs. I'd never user or buy an Android product myself, not for anything but just performance and consistency..

        • +3

Yep entirely agree even though you've got the opposite view to me. As long as people don't evangalise their beliefs all is good in the World. (This applies to many things :p )

@Limbot: To that matter I will question you. What if there was the option to buy an iPad for $1? As long as the discount is good enough, hunting the bargain is the most important thing!

            • @ATangk: I'd buy that right away and sell it for profit the next day ;)

What ipad with keyboard can you get at this pricepoint?

Honest question… is there a native way (no 3rd party apps) to turn this into sidecar equivalent?

If no, which app would you recommend? Basically just want to turn Chromebook into external display and drawing pad.

What is mean different between duet 3 and 5 other than the size?

    • I want to know the same. Trying to decide between duet 3 and 5

      • +1

I did some googling on this topic, the takeaway was basically:

Duet 3 is a better tablet
Duet 5 is a better laptop

So depends what your going to use it as more.

From personal experience I concur with the reviewers. With the Duet 5 if you take the keyboard off it is quite unwieldy as a tablet - in portrait mode it is too long (with quite a lot of leverage pulling the weight of the device down) and in landscape mode it is too wide to type on the onscreen keyboard with the thumbs (and no option of a compact keyboard). But it is very good as a laptop replacement due to the larger screen and full sized keyboard.

    • There are quite a lot of YouTube reviews from when the Duet 3 was announced and released overseas, so they may be good to watch. However:
      - the issue around the USI 1 vs USI 2 pens has been mentioned in the original post
      - it seems the Duet 3 in this post is 8GB/128GB which contrasts with the Duet 5 variants of 4GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB

  • Can anyone comment on the speaker of duet 3? I bought the duet 5 hoping to use it to watch movies and shows but the speaker of the duet 5 is way too bad for any sort of media, decided to return it after 30min of use. is the speaker of this duet 3 any better?
The duet 5 is perfect if the display and speaker were better.

    • Duet 5 is more like better and lager verson of Duet 3. So I do not think Duet 3 will have better speaker, it just not logical.

  • Looks like a surface pro knock off lol, even the kickstand is very similar

  • These prices are amazing

  • Dees it come with the stylus as photographed? The US reviews said it doesn't come with the stylus or the holder, there's just an empty hole in on the case where the holder would go. You can buy the stylus from Lenovo for $89 but they don't sell the holder…

    • The 8GB SKU generally does in the US, and apparently it did in SG while available. But it looks like this one doesn't unfortunately as Lenovo PSREF shows "Pen Upgradeable" instead of "USI Pen 2" for SKU 82T6001GAU as listed here. It also looks like there are no ANZ 8GB SKUs that include the pen yet, while there are 4GB SKUs that do. Kind of frustrating, I would really like an 8GB Duet to replace my OG Duet but the pen is 50% of my usage.

  • Hdmi out?

    • Via USB-C
