Pretty good price (ATL on camel) for this 8GB RAM tablet with 4G LTE SIM slot. Make sure to uninstall random apps Lenovo loaded it with (cat games anyone?) to make UI snappier. Comes with a pen as well, though a good use of it is yet to be found.

$270.74 with pricebeat at OfficeWorks.

How often do fw for Lenovo tablets get updated, if any?

    • +5

Our M10 plus 3rd gen gets security updates about every 3 months or so.

The M series Tabs tend to only get one Android system update over the version they ship with.

Ours came with Android 12 and we got upgraded to Android 13 about 6 months later, unlikely that we will get Android 14.

    • +7

Have a few lenovo tablets here, not sure on exact models, very few updates.

If you want updates more reliably, I think Samsung is a better option. But you get less bang for buck hardware wise.

    • +5

      https://www.howtogeek.com/lenovo-tab-m11-reveal/

According to this 4yrs of security updates (till 2028)

Android system update from 13 to 14 out of the box and a future update to Android 15.

      Pretty good for Lenovo.

      • Very very good for Lenovo 😳

    $255 back in March 2024.

  • +1

It is a very good tablet with sim card slot at this price.

  • +5

I was very disappointed when I found out they were using the G88 chipset in this when they had used SD695 in the M10.

Save up the extra few hundred and get a Samsung S series non-FE tablet. The difference in just everything is insane. I've owned an S7+ and now an S9 (upgraded since S9 is smaller) and oh my God both are absolutely marvellous.

Only ipads are comparable but obviously different ecosystems so one isn't "better" than the other.

    • +2

Would the negger care the elaborate? I'm on the market for a replacement tablet, and would really like to know.

      • +6

I assume the neg is because the s9 is roughly 2-3 times more than this… Set your expectations to the price paid and you'll be okay. Completely comes down to what you're using it for

        • He said "a Samsung S series non-FE tablet", not necessarily a brand new one of the latest model. He mentioned he's had an S7+ and an S9, but didn't exclude older ones. I'm in the market to replace the Lenovo M10 3rd gen I got from Aldi for $99 to try it out a couple of years ago, and have since passed on to the offspring, with an OLED one, as I found out I mostly only used it to watch movies in the dark at night, and am strongly considering getting a used Samsung S (since Lenovo seems to have given up on OLED screens after 2022, and Huawei wants $800+ for theirs).

      • +5

The non-FE S-series tablets are flagship tier, so ofc the "…difference in just everything is insane" over a mid-range tablet from a couple of years ago.

Suggesting people looking for bargains simply save more money & buy the Rolls Royce version is unlikely to ever attract positive attention.

As @Kaise suggested, figure out your use-case and find something that fits it.

        • -2

I've played around with a Tab S9 FE, it most certainly isn't flagship tier.

          • +1

@wizko: You just said Samsung S series non-fe… Think you're choosing yourself now

            • +1

@Kaise: Lol I misread somewhere. What I meant to say is all the S series tablets are really good except the FE ones.

              • +1

@wizko: Why are the FE series so bad?

                • @Sambuca: The FE (which in Samsung-speak is Fan Edition) devices are all lower cost, lower spec versions of the S-device they're imitating.

For example, the Galaxy Tab S9FE is a heavier tablet with a 90HZ LCD vs the Tab S9's 120Hz IPS AMOLED. It uses an Exynos SoC with 6GB RAM vs SD 8Gen 2 with 8GB on the Tab S9.

The FE devices are actually not bad for people who don't want to pay flagship prices but also don't want mid-range performance.

                  • +1

@BinaryPirate: No such thing as a IPS AMOLED display. It's just AMOLED. The S9 FE has a IPS LCD display which is fine.

                    • @flagger: Yeah, my bad. I was quickly tabbing back and forth on a mobile browser & my brain remembered it wrong :(

I will be super happy when manufacturers figure out how to make AMOLED monitors 27"and larger.

                      • @BinaryPirate: How about 65"?

                        • @wisdomtooth: Still OLED, not AMOLED :'(

That said, If I could afford the power bill that's what I would go with for now.

                          • @BinaryPirate:

It’s a redundant monicker. The AM in AMOLED stands for Active Matrix. Any display that can show moving content like videos or movies has an active matrix. Your LCD TV, iPad, or even GameBoy has an active matrix LCD, but no one calls it an AMLCD because no company was bold enough to try to make that part of their branding.

Every consumer OLED is an AMOLED display, but Samsung did a good job of associating the redundant acronym with their brand to convince consumers their OLEDs were different because they were AMOLED

                            • @wisdomtooth: There are performance differences between AMOLED screens and OLED screens, such as deeper blacks and higher contrasts for the former, as well as 'deficiencies' like AMOLED displays being worse than OLED screens in direct sunlight.

You could always do a search for AMOLED vs OLED if you're curious.
Then again, you could've just read the rest of that Reddit thread 🤷‍♂️🤷

¹ For a monitor in a darkened room it's not really a deficiency as such.

          • @wizko:

"The non-FE S-series tablets are flagship tier"

Read this sentence again but much, much slower.

spend $800 and you will get better product

      Wow you are so smart

      • You're not wrong, but he also has a point. Flagships do last a long time and if you're looking for longevity, you should spend more and avoid the landfill

Case in point: I am still using my Galaxy Tab S 10.4, from 2014, for watching movies or what not… (but I got it for $400 back then after heavy discounts). Battery is still good enough for about 5 hours of screen on time. Chipset does feel sluggish with a modern firmware, but with the older official ones it feels snappy and right at home which I prefer (but some modern apps aren't compatible anymore).

        • -1

Or you can just buy an ipad for $500 and have it last 7 years with new OS anyway.

          • +2

@jpeg-jpg: Na. Had an iPad before. It didn't last 7 years, more like 5, and became literally useless as I wasn't even able to download any apps due to apple restrictions. (whereas with android, you can at least download and try).

            • @smartProverble: Restrictions are from app developers. If the developer chooses not to update the app for older iOS versions, then you cannot download the app.

It also depends on when you buy the ipad. You usually get 7 years of updates on every ipad from launch. If you buy a 2 year old ipad, even if it’s “brand new”, it’s going to be 5 years of updates.

              • @jpeg-jpg: I gave them a chance… Never again! Expensive paperweight in the end.

Easily an android convert after that experience. And no reason to look back either.

Maybe you've convinced others though, but as Simon would say, it's a no from me.

                • @smartProverble: We have an mini iPad 2 from ~15 years ago. The hardware is still great, it's just the appstore preventing us from installing legacy versions of apps (we hadn't installed before). Planned obsolescence. Sure, I can jailbreak it and whatnot, and I do, but it's all very fiddly.

                • @smartProverble: Different preferences for different people. I can’t use android tablets cause the UI sucks. I’d rather a windows tablet than an android tablet.

    • Tab S9 series is usually $1xxx unless on sale. So it’ll be a lot more than a few hundred more. The price of premium Samsung tabs and the size increases are the reason why I’ve stuck with my old tab S5e. Don’t see it worthwhile upgrade for me for the S9 at ~$800 on sale.

When you get down to the sub $300 end of the market it usually hard to recommend Samsung. Though what Samsung do better is software support. At the price for Samsung the A9+ comes into play and it isn’t too bad.

This YouTuber did a comparison between the two.

      https://youtu.be/kALrlrix9pc?si=uDxeAmLmRkdSIB28

Interesting to see for similar money the Samsung stacks up pretty well but offers better performance and better support according to above comparison. The stylus might be a deciding factor pushing the m11 over the line for some.

  • Any custom ROMs for this? Regardless of official support, that'll end way before the tablet becomes unusable.

    • Looks like you can root it but no custom roms I can find :(

      • I have heard the custom ROM scene is pretty much dead these days now that manufacturers & Google have what they wanted & no longer need a community to fix their mistakes and - more importantly - evade their control.

      • Can I install APKs without rooting?

    • Even if it does, it may not benefit this tablet due to a weak processor.

Basically modern software requires evermore increasing processing power which is why you often experience older hardware struggling with newer software

  • I got x2 of these about 5 months ago, work great and good for pretty much everything outside of gaming.

    cat games anyone?

Anyone recommend a tablet for reading around 8 inches? The Lenovo M8 seems to be trashed a fair bit on the forums/reddit, are there any better similarly priced alternatives?

    • -2

Anyone recommend a tablet for reading around 8 inches?

      • Does is come in 5G?

I have the iPlay mini 50 pro and it's really good.

Originally I bought it to replace a galaxy tab A7 LiTE which is just atrocious for the simple thing I had been using it for (in the car just playing music and google maps).

The iPlay 50 mini pro is quite powerful and snappy. I paid about $170 AUD including shipping from AliExpress

This one or Lenovo Tab Plus? https://www.amazon.com.au/Lenovo-Speaker-Android-Tablet-ZADX…

Lenovo Tab M11 LTE available for 259$ on Lenovo Education store

    • The Tab Plus has 4G or just WIFI only?

      • It's wifi only

    • +2

I have both and the tab plus is definitely the better device. I got one for $299 from the Lenovo education store late last year. I think they're both good buys for under $300 but the tab plus is definitely smoother.

      • Ooh I got it last year for that price too. Very happy for the price, though screens viewing angles and brightness is slightly disappointing… But it was 300.

  • +5

Compared to the Google pixel tablet deal in the recent past for $350 this seems a lot of money for what you get.

    • Yep. Lucky I went with S24 ultra Telstra deal and received $300 bonus voucher and used it on Pixel tablet. End up only paying $50 to get it. Worth it!!

  • +1

    Thanks Op. Price matched Officeworks
    $270.74.

  • +1

MediaTek G88 yikes. They should have done the G99 minimum as it's 56% better in benchmarks. The G99 is on the lower end of midrange and that means the G88 is on the low end.

    • Nothing wrong with having a choice, for $94 more you can get Lenovo Tab Plus with G99 as posted above if you so desire.

      • +2

Yes of course. It's just expensive for what it is. For around $165 AUD you can get the Lenovo Chinese equivalent of this model on AliExpress and reflash it using Lenovo RSA to the global ROM. At the cost of no local warranty and no 4G.

Now if we were to get the CN version of the Plus here that would be more amazing. Unfortunately the global variants of the CN models usually have weaker hardware.

  • Is this any good for Microsoft one note and pdf annotations?

  • Is it good for handwriting notes with the provided pen? Can anyone with experience plz comment? Would like to buy for Mrs to replace her diaries :)

    • +1

I did a test and it recognised handwriting quite well, though writing on paper is still a different experience and it will be a personal choice to trade one for another

  • Lenovo legion tab coming?

  • +1

    Please don't buy. Absolutely crap.

  • Does anyone know if they still do those speaker docks the M10 had or an equivalent? Struggling to find them.

  • Is this better than Samsung A9+ ?

  • People keep buying garbage tablets so they keep making.

  • Does anyone have a recommendation re a tablet that has got the software to operate a plug in CD/DVD copy device?
    Does this one ?

    • Use your computer for this job - a tablet is most definitely not the right device for this 👌

  • Nom, a computer guy told me that it is almost impossible these days to find a computer that has the compatible software. Things apparently have really tightened up, security wise to stop copying. Do you know of any that might do the job, Nom(even an old one).
    Thanks for any advice
    Geoff

    • That is not true, there is lots of software that allows you to rip your DVDs for your own usage. I have done so for my plex server. But As Nom said, get a laptop or PC then google how to get the software, reddit is your friend.

  • I'd say its almost impossible to go back to a non-nxtpaper device outside of a great SOC for gaming.
